Silas S. and I went to BBC for dinner on Mon. night. There was a little wait...a good sign for Mon night dining. The restaurant is small, cute and clean. Our server was friendly, attentive and helpful. I had the veggie burger- good but not great and a bit mushy in consistency. The bf had the alpine burger + caramelized onions- he enjoyed it but again it was noting special. We shared an order of sweet potato fries--very tasty and fresh. No sauces for dipping...boo! The chips were good but burger and chips---doesn't sound so good to me. The baked beans were awesome, skip the coleslaw. It was also a bit pricey since you have to order a full side of fries ($6-8) which is almost another entrée! Overall an OK experience but I won't be rushing back. read more

For five years I have lived less than or equal to within a 1 mile radius of Davis Square, but never had I gone to Boston Burger Company until last weekend. Over the years I had heard so many great things, but the meaty goodness of BBC had always eluded my face. During summers I'd walk by preoccupied by my JP Licks ice cream cone only to snap back into consciousness finding my face pressed against the glass windows of BBC with burger befriending patrons shooting me concerned and then ultimately disgusted looks through the now smudged glass. No, it was not oils from my nose and forehead (thank you, Neutrogena!), but drool from my mouth. Winters would yield similar results, albeit my breathe would fog up the window and I would draw sad faces to signify my poor burgerless scheduling for that day. Those burgers. Soon. SOON. Luck would have it that I was craving a burger all week, and I made plans DAYS in advance to fill my face with dead cowstuffs at BBC. I put it in my Google Calendar. That's right, I Goog Cal'd that ish. Saturday night, let's do this. I walked in unprepared for the sheer amplitude of burger variety. Twenty six burger options, plus four special burgers. That's THIRTY BURGERS. Mother of Cow. 232 minutes of indecision and profuse perspiration later, I settled on The King burger. Peanut butter, bacon, and fried bananas. Uh, yes plz. Sadly, though, it was not greater than the sum of it's parts. It was overcooked and a little rubbery like it was frozen for a while. The rare-medium-rare I requested came out as a medium. My dining associate had the Killer Bee burger and reported similar results. We split an order of potato wedges covered in cheese that were damn good, but the burgers left me slightly sulky and I was still craving burger perfection after we left. Yes, BBC has some creative/wacky/silly burger varieties, but the execution was a bit off for us. Maybe I will give it another shot sometime soon; it is likely we were there on an off night. There are definitely better burger joints in the Cambridge/Somerville area, but BBC should get the job done if you are craving an interesting burger. read more

If you're a fan of relatively lean burgers piled high with fantastic toppings, come here. If you're wondering what I mean by "lean", I mean you won't end up with your arm sitting in a grease pile when you're done from your burger dripping from your hand. You'll probably be covered in a various sauce, but that's a different story all together. We've been in a few times, twice very recently. The wait times seem to be reduced, which is great, and the food comes out QUICK. Both times I've ordered the Hot Mess, which is out of control good. I love that it's a little spicy with the jalapenos, sweet from the thousand island dressing, and the sweet potato fries on top help hold everything together, along with the American cheese. The burger was cooked a smidgen more than I'd prefer for medium rare, but I did enjoy that it wasn't drippy and bloody with all the other goodies on the burger. Burgers come with in house made potato chips, which are great. You also get your choice of baked beans or slaw. I preferred the beans over the slaw, which is weird for me, because I love slaw normally. If you are with a group, I highly suggest getting an order of fries topped with something fun. We got some garlic parmesan fries to share between four of us, and they were so freaking good. I love that the fries are crisp wedges of potato that are super soft in the middle-cooked awesomely. The toppings are an added amazing bonus. The garlic parmesan was so simple and amazing-it was minced garlic and slivers of hard parmesan scattered over the fries. The setting is comfortable, but a little small. I wish they had more space to make it so people never had to wait. Also, the bathroom is downstairs, and under them. It's a reformed broom closet and I wish it was bigger, and girls and boys didn't have to share. Overall, please expands, BBC! A true three star establishment. Burgers are burgers and this place serves big messy ones. The bottom half of my roll was so soggy I wondered if they had dropped it in the sink prior to service. Basically...they serve beer and wine, they have a cavernous bathroom where people could potentially get mugged and three flat screen tvs. I would go for the delivery option. read more

I dig this place! It's basically a choose your own adventure for burgers & fries. Thankfully I live on the other side of the river and rarely cross these days, but those crack-ladled BBC sweet potato fries... omg. Amazing. Sweet, sticky heaven. Also extra points for the down-to-earth staff. Some vegan walks in and was grilling (hah!) the poor hostess (who was very nice) on what she could eat. UMMMMM... Did you even READ the sign? Boston BURGER Company?? How does that even slightly convey vegan-friendly? We all rolled our eyes and made a couple cracks after she left. Edit: Apparently the BBC is vegan-friendly. I always leave this place feeling overstuffed even when I've come with an empty stomach. The burgers here are massive and the toppings just make it even more ridiculous. I've tried quite a few different burgers here but my favorite is probably the 420 Burger, which is topped with mozzarella sticks, fried mac & cheese balls, onion rings, fries, bacon, cheese, and BBQ sauce. Maybe it's a bit overkill, but it's SO GOOD to have all your favorite things together, especially when majority of it is fried (I love all things fried!) Seriously though, this burger one of the messiest thing I've ever eat, the BBQ sauce just gets everywhere, the toppings constantly fall out of the burger, and every bite is a mouthful... there's probably some sexual innuendo to note, but I won't go there. The main reason for bringing this down one star is that the rest of the menu is lacking a bit. Specifically for the fries, I've had three different kids and they both were not good. The nachos, the greek and the garlic parm, and were lacking flavor, the fries were not that crispy, and they all in all average. I would not recommend these unless you really want some fries (your burger should fill you up any way!) Overall, the burger topping options here are really great and I would reccomend coming if you're a fan of just messy, good burgers! Spaghetti Cat lived to review another day when the Lady Friend ran continuous interference with our waitress, overriding my attempts at ordering the Artery Clogger (which I'm sure is even better than it sounds on paper). Feeling patriotic, I opted instead of the All American burger, which presented an evenly balanced, only slightly messy distribution of cheese, BBQ sauce, bacon and blue cheese dressing. The burger itself was generous - a massive, dense patty, juicy AND cooked to order. Perhaps we got lucky, perhaps they got their act together here. Add in the toasted bun, and Spaghetti Cat was knew burger satiety for the first time in Davis Square. Fries are extra, and good enough, but were an unnecessary indulgence - for the first time in a long career of gustatory excess, we left some on the table. My bottomless stomach found bottom, and I had to admit defeat. The accompanying chips and slaw were more than enough of a side show, and plus, the burgers really are enough, really. There's just no way I could convert to Hinduism, Zoroastrianism (what's up Google search "religions that prohibit beef"?!) or vegetarianism with burgers this good so close to home. I'd have to move in order for that to happen. I tried the INFERNO, habernero salsa on the side. I would recommend this strategy for anyone born north of the equator. We're just not equipped for this kind of heat. The meat was cooked to perfection in an awesome bun. Crispy fried chips and beans (or you can choose slaw) on the side were great complements. My fellow diner had the ALPINE, a burger with cheese and mushrooms. He just housed the thing. As others have noted, the fries are great, but not necessary. Although there are so many different types, it would be fun to go in a good group and split some bowls, just to try them all. My only "beef" with the place (sorry, had to do it!) was the size of the space. Solid choice for a burger joint. Choose from one of over 20 different topping combos, or even build your own. I've only been here once, but the long list of tasty-looking burger choices made me curious enough to go back for more. I tried the Mac&cheese burger. Unlike milk, this was not a bad choice. The prices are respectable too - comparable to any burger plate in the area. We came hear with our friends after hearing how awesome Boston Burger was and everyone saying they had the "best burger in Boston." I have to say I was a little bit letdown after having such high expectations. The place was busy for a Sunday night but this was also right after the St Patty's Day parade. You walk in to a very narrow walkway to get the to hostess station. When it's busy this walkway is nearly impossible to navigate with all the people lined up waiting for a table. Our friends put our names in for us but we still had to wait outside in the cold because there was no place to stand inside. The place has a nice casual, laid-back atmosphere. I didn't order a beer but I like that you have that option because nothing goes better with a good burger than a nice cold beer. The burger options were almost limitless and even though I was curious to try something different I chose the Boston Burger since it was my first time and I wanted to really taste the burger itself and see what all the hype was about. I wasn't thrilled paying almost $10 for a burger that didn't come with fries. The burgers are served with crispy (burnt) chips so I also ordered a side of fries. The burger itself was huge but very underwhelming. I don't know if it was the cheese or the burger itself but it had a funny taste to it. I expected a lot more for a gourmet burger that was $10 but honestly I wouldn't pay $5 for this burger. Aside from the strange aftertaste, the burger itself lacked flavor. Just a huge letdown for me. The fries were actually really good. They weren't even fries really, just giant potato wedges. The seasoning was perfect and the wedges were delicious. The service wasn't great. I think our server was new and I usually always cut a new server a break but when I asked if I could try a sample of the chili to see if I would like it she said I couldn't because the chili was premade and already in a bowl. I think she could have thought a little more outside of the box and figured out a way to accommodate her customer. She would also disappear for several minutes at a time and she forgot simple things like when we asked for extra napkins. Bottom line, Boston Burger isn't a bad place. I would go back but next time I will skip the burger and go for something else like the pulled pork sandwich. I can't really recommend this place because $10 is a lot to charge for a mediocre burger. I love their the king burger! First time I heard of it I thought what a weird combination. I then tried it and could not stop eating it. I have tried their other burgers there like the kitchen sink (a little bit of everything possible that you could stack on a burger) and the pilgrim (turkey burger with cranberry sauce and cheese) but love their king burger the most. Delicious banana, peanut butter, and strips of bacon on a burger? You just can't go wrong! I also really like their homemade chips and side of beans. Been here three times. That's like the pretty fair amount of times for a review, I think. I don't always do that but I can be proud of it when I do, right? This place seems all about the toppings. Burgers topped with every ingredient you can think of under the sun. That's fine. I mean that's fine, as long as a restaurant doesn't lose sight of the important bits: the beef. Each visit was decent, I suppose. It's a nice location. The staff has been friendly, if a bit harried. I can't really seriously recommend the burgers though; not as good solid burgers. The last time I came, my burger was more on the rare side than medium rare and it gave me a good chance to examine the beef. Not that great. Definitely not in frozen patty form but I get the sense that it was previously frozen at some point. The consistency, texture and flavor were suspect. 420 burger? Burger with peanut butter, bacon and fried bananas (the king burger)? All of that is fine but you can't serve me sub-par beef at a gourmet burger restaraunt... at least you can't and expect better than a 2-star rating. Delicious half-pound angus burgers that really pack the flavor punch. My main gripe with RF O'Sullivans is that despite the huge selection, three of the four burgers I've tried were strangely lacking in flavor (the fourth, stuffed with blue cheese, was awesome) - I think because the meat is generally under-seasoned. Here, the meat itself is seasoned and tasty. You have a massive selection of toppings to choose from, or you can go with one of their concoctions. Plus you can add spreads, including different mayos like pesto mayo, spicy mayo and jerk mayo. Hubby and I both had black n' blues with added sauteed onions - and these burgers rocked. There's a huge selection of flavors of steak-cut fries. The garlic-parm fries were perfectly cooked and really flavorful, with grated parmesan, garlic and herbs. I can't wait to try the sweet potato fries. I'm not a college student, but to me, $8 for a freshly made, huge sit-down burger that comes with coleslaw or beans and really good homemade potato chips is a very good value. The atmosphere is pretty casual and not terribly exciting, but the staff is really nice and the burgers rock. This is a great addition to Davis and we will definitely be back! read more

Went here for the second time in two years, and they just don't cut it. It's all in the mouth feel for me. The bread is too big and bold, seems like an Iggy's roll, but just doesn't work with the too thin burger. The burger just feels terrible in my mouth, and resides there with grizzle after. Yuck! Price is a little high, the burger comes with no fries; they cost extra. I really want this place to work, but it doesn't. Staff is great. The burgers are bland at best. They are dried out not matter how rare you order them (The beef fat content is to low). The place is pretty tiny, but it seems like the servers lose your table. There is a mix of outdoor and indoor seating. The problem with the outdoor seating is that you are very close to the Davis Square T-Stop, so there is a lot of foot traffic going by. The prices are decent, but it doesn't really matter since the food isn't good. Their chips are soggy and over cooked. Avoid this place; there are too many good Burger Joints in the area. read more

I'm here to welcome the deliciousness of Boston Burger Company into the neighborhood. It's small. It's tasty. It has burgers, burgers, burgers. If you like comfort food then may I recommend this as a fabulous find in Davis prior to a movie or show at the Somerville Theater. It's also GREAT people watching during the summer. The square is just full of eye junk food. Let me recommend for you the following things: 1.) Their burgers are huge and tasty. You can easily split one with a friend. Now, I've had some damn good burgers in Boston (the best one can be found at the Cellar in Central, if you ask me) but these are good. 2.) The Turkey Burger. It may seem crazy with the cranberry-stuffing but the damn thing is good. My problem with Turkey Burgers has always been that they don't have enough ....deliciousness to them. Fortunately, Boston Burger Company did it right up. 3.) The wait staff is totally nice. I've eaten here three times. Got pick up once. Always fast, always friendly, consistently good. 4.) Southwestern Eggrolls. Ever been to Chili's these eggrolls are a lot like those, but better. Deliciousness. Things they could work on: Their chicken sandwiches are monumentally huge. While I like that they were really hard to eat without looking totally messed up. I just wanted to update my review since I just went and saw the newly expanded inside of BBCo! It is about time they expanded to the unit next door since their waits could be long at times. Now when you walk in, you think you are walking into the same BBCo as before since that awkward narrow hallway type entry is still there, but then eventually you get to a bigger host counter that extends into the new half of BBCo and is near their new restrooms upstairs! Yup! You don't have to go downstairs to that weird bathroom awkwardly next to the kitchen anymore. Hooray! And they seemed to have more staff now too with an expanded burger menu with, yes EVEN MORE BURGER CHOICES. So BBCo, thanks for getting bigger and more awesome. read more

Word! I haven't been here in a few and to my surprise they've expanded the restaurant. Now that I'm a vegetarian (1yr + 1mo) I ordered the jalapeño veggie burger (w/cheese & horseradish sauce). So good. I love this place because the burger options and ingredients are out of this world. You can substitute any burger for a turkey or veggie patty & your order comes with amazing coleslaw & homemade chips. Double word. Although I must admit that it's hard eating the chips due to my consistent dental work & them being super crunchy on my too soft teeth *sad face* The French fries are thick cuts if potatoes and seasoned to your liking. I am thrilled to welcome this new burger joint to Davis Sqare. Today, I feasted on their delicious s.p.f's and a hefty beef burger covered in garlicy, marinated mushrooms over swiss cheese. I opted for the baked beans. I suggest that you do the same, although the coleslaw looked pretty good, as far as coleslaw goes.... The service was delightful, the choices on the menu are plentiful and i can't wait to go back time and time again to try everything. So beyond FULL!!!! So I order Garlic parm fries based off of previous review. AMAZING!!!! They were full of flavor and Garlic. The 420 burger was on special, so what the heck, I will give it a try, I say.......TRUE AWESOMENESS!!!!!!!!! I'm seriously confused by the 2- and 3-star reviews of this place, and it makes me wonder if folks are expecting something different than BBC offers. Here's how the dice roll - come to BBC if you want a huge burger that has the ability to change your religion with it's deliciousness to a religion that worships burgers. And maybe the BBC. They've got a ton of variations here, and I every one of them that I've tried has rocked. My friends say the same. I haven't gotten up the nerve to double-stack anything yet, but it's gonna happen soon. Then, I'll take over the world with my bloated self. There IS other food here, but honestly, why would you get it? It's not the Boston Burger "and miscellaneous other cuisine" Company, after all. Sure the chips are homemade and really good, as are the fries. But the burger is what it's all about. If you want alcohol, a space to have deep conversations, or something like hummus, you're probably in the wrong place. I'm warning you, the burger is good, but your really missing out if you get just a burger. What makes BBC shine is the variations they cook up. Peanut butter and fried bananas? Dip the burger in batter and deep fry it? Cover the burger in mozzarella sticks, Mac and cheese bites, French fries, onion rings, and then name it after international stoners day? Creativity isn't missing here. The best part? They'll let you Frankenstein your own burger within reason. I've asked for off menu toppings and they've obliged me (the fried pickle sauce is choice on a 420 burger) The Davis square location is the original (and best) location, but there isn't much variation between the three spots. Beer on tap, amazing wedges and fried pickles for appetizers, and baked beans or coleslaw with chips on the side of every meat mound. Follow your heart and get whatever whacky creation catches your eye, just come hungry. For value seekers they offer the 420 burger from 4-5pm on weekdays for $4.20. It's normally a $14 burger, so make sure you tip your waitress (there are no waiters) on the full amount. read more

The first question you'll ask yourself when sitting down at BBC is, "can a burger topped with peanut butter, bacon, and fried bananas - all delicious in their own right - REALLY be any good??" Well the answer is yes. "The King," while reading from the menu like something you'd concoct in your own kitchen at 3 a.m. after a night of heavy drinking, is as tasty as they come. Find a way to slip a slice of cheese in there without mucking up the flavor and you've, in my mind, reached culinary perfection. The trick at BBC is matching burger to fries. The selection of sliced potatoes is almost as extensive as the burger menu, and one really runs the risk of pairing flavors poorly. I opted for the cajun fries, pleased to find that they were not simply run of the mill fries sprinkled with cajun powder after the fact. No, these fries were cooked in a delectable sauce with green peppers and onions. Tasty as they were, they didn't quite meld well with my burger, but that's my own error, and no fault of BBC. Unlike others, I'm not bothered by the prices at BBC. My burger ran $9 and came with tasty chips and beans. This alone could have satiated me and is on par with what I'd expect to pay for a similar meal anywhere else. My lunch became a bit pricey only after I added a soda and the order of cajun fries ($7, and on their own worth the price). The truth is, however, that the burger and the fries are each ample enough in their own right that, finding myself dining alone again, I'd hesitate to order both. I agree, however, that it might be nice to have an option to substitute a small(er) order of (plain) fries for the chips, perhaps even for a minor charge, particularly for a solo diner like myself. read more

Hands down one of the best burger places in the city (or at least the most unique). The menu boasts burgers with some of the most creative ingredients I've ever seen. I was feeling adventurous on one visit and ordered "The King"...a half pound of burger topped with fried bananas, bacon, and peanut butter. Don't knock it until you try it! Other toppings commonly seen include french fries, onion rings, mac and cheese, and even grilled pineapple! There are also plenty of more traditional options for the less adventurous. The side baked beans and homemade potato chips are also fantastic. In warmer weather patrons can enjoy pation seating right in the heart of beautiful Davis Square. Service is always prompt and friendly. Tables are first come, first serve so you may have to wait during peak hours, but it's definitely worth the wait! read more

I enjoyed their turkey burger, done "Alpine" style. On the menu, that's: "3. ALPINE BURGER Mushrooms sauteed in garlic parmesan butter with swiss cheese $7.95" Making it turkey made added an additional buck. So, total: $8.95. The burger definitely did the trick for me -- juicy and tasty. I forgot to order it with tomato or onions (I assumed they'd be included -- my non-sarcastic bad), but a little bit of side slaw* in the sandwich helped sweeten the taste and cool my palate. Also, the sandwich comes with "homemade" chips. I can't judge them, as I'm not chip-people. Judging by what I've had so far this year, I consider this my top turkey burger in the Boston area -- it was better than the dry Four Burgers sandwich and less expensive than Brownstone's. Our server was friendly and pleasant, but a little forgetful. She had asked for a reminder of what I'd ordered twice. The second time was funniest, with the question "Was this what you ordered?" as she put it down on the table. I think she might have been new or just getting into the rhythm of her workday. I was sooo excited to try this place when I found it on Phantom Gourmet's website, but soon after I was VERY VERY disappointed. I went with a group of people, the place is small, which is alright, but the food and service was horrible. For appetizers, we had honey BBQ tenders and Mac-n-cheese bites. The honey BBQ wings were alright, but the mac n cheese bites, tasted like Easy Mac, except it was fried. I had the North Ender Burger (mozzarella cheese, tomatoes, and balsamic mayo) which came with baked beans. The presentation was sloppy (looked like they just slapped it on) and the burger, when I cut into it, was oozing grease-I didn't even eat it! The beans I didn't even bother... Only thing I got out of this visit was some pink lemonade, I was better off going across the street to Chipotle! I probably would've given this place another star, if the service was decent, but the service was just as bad as the food. The sangria was delicious and the outdoor seating is a nice plus. Burgers come as ordered, and when they haven't, the place has been good at quickly replacing your burger and comping. Coleslaw is great. Bun could be improved. It came to me a bit soggy. read more

This is an absolutely fine spot for stuffing your meat hole with a whopper of a sandwich at 4:45 on any given Saturday when you happen to be roaming uselessly about Davis Square in a sun soaked daze. Ok, maybe that's just me but that's where I found myself this past weekend when out of nowhere Satan (in the form of raging, soul destroying hunger) entered my being and directed me to Boston Burder Co. simply because it was...well pretty empty and directly in front of me. Hello waitress, I will have a seat and a cold drink....don't mind if I do. ...and bring on that Teradactyl Chicken sammich....with slaw......and yes I'm a slob so some extra napkins....watch me shake with glee as I slam this monstrosity of birdy goodness and 'not so secret sauce' down my gullet....good God please do battle with Satan...in my face.... Talk about a hot juicy mess! I had the bruschetta burger - pesto mayo on a toasted bun, a fresh pile of chopped tomatoes, melted provolone cheese on top of a perfectly cooked medium rare burger. It was so juicy, I had to eat it with a fork or else risk the inevitable mess. Yum! Yum! YUM! My friend had the veggie burger and she was equally pleased. The place is a wee bit claustrophobic, and I was grateful that the windows were open, despite not actually sitting by them. It just gave the appearance that we weren't totally locked in. Our table was pushed right against the window to the kitchen and the table next to us was so close, our waitress asked the group of us how our orders were. Anyway, the burgers come with homemade chips which taste extra New Englandy, (if you've ever had Deep River Snacks, you'll know what I'm talking about). You have your choice of beans or cole slaw, I choose the slaw, which was yummy and slaw-like and therefore didn't disappoint. I'm bringing the husband next time! read more

Reading the other reviews makes me think either it was a bad day or I expect too much. We tried Boston Burger Company thanks to their spot on Dinners, drive-in's and Dives.... 8 of us each getting a different type of burger and chock full of excitement. Dry, not much flavor, and to be honest I would swear it was previously frozen meat. They claim its fresh but just had that unmistakable texture and flavor of frozen beef. Iam going to go out on a limb biased on others experience here and assume it was a bad day, or maybe a new cook. All 8 of us left disappointed. On the bright side the staff/ waitress was very friendly and cheerful. read more

After watching triple-D from Food Network TV, I and my family went there. We ordered three different burgers and chilli cheese fries. Fries came out first and it tasted OK, but it was bit on salty side. Then came the burger. All three burgers (Hot Mess, Mac Attack, Kitchen Sink) were over-cooked. We asked for medium on all three, but all came as well done. It was very tough to eat. Overall, there was not much taste on all of them. My daughter complained that she could taste bleach in her mac'n'cheese on Mac Attack. After hearing a lot of good reviews, my expectation was bit high, but that changed very quickly. Again, this is my own review so please take with grain of salt. In any case, I am not going there again. read more

The different combinations of french fries and burgers are amazing and cooked to perfection! 420 and Killer Bee burgers is what we feasted on this time and pizza fries, so so good! Yeah. 4 stars. That means I like you... maybe I like you more than a friend. I am not a huge burger fan, but every now and again I'll go all crazy, and sit down for a nice fat burger. The only reason I did not give this place the full five stars was because the place is tiny. You most definitely will wait to be seated, so let's hope you go in the Summer time, where you can sit outside on one of the 100 benches and drool, contemplating if you should shoot on into JP Licks and spoil your dinner. I had a Jalapeno Burger, obviously. It was cooked perfectly and very moist and delish. The homemade chips it comes with are to die for. Also, being the fatty I am, my guest and I indulged in a side of "nacho" fries, which were the equivlent to potato skins. Maybe a bit too much food ;) The service was great. Our waitress was far out.
