Not a fan of the pizza I recently purchased - while well cooked, the sauce and crust was bland and slightly burnt but not in a good way. I think it's supposed to be south shore-style but is missing something I can put my finger on. While newly refurbished after a recent fire, it's still kinda dumpy and weirdly loud inside. I was intrigued and wanted to try the pizza here because from the looks of the photos, it was similar to a south shore bar style pizza. This is hard to find north of the city and I was hoping for the best! I ordered a Hawaiian pizza to go. When I got home and opened the box, I was happy to see that it indeed looked like a South Shore pie! Crispy edges where you would typically see crust, and there was a considerable number of toppings on it. The flavor was there, and it fulfilled my pizza craving! I just ordered a sandwich from here because it's right up the street from my office -- I got a chicken breast wrap with lettuce, tomato, sauteed onions and mushrooms, and goat cheese and it was LOVELY!!! Ordered dinner online to be delivered two nights ago. After an hour and a half, I called to check on the order, and was told it had been delivered. I asked where it had been delivered, and the person said he'd call the driver and get back to me. That call never came, so an hour later I called back, and was told they would reverse the charges on my card. That has not happened, either. Nor at any time was an apology given for the inconveniences. I don't care how good the food is, and I will never know because of the complete lack of service shown to me. We ordered their burgers off of grub hub. It took them 45 minutes or more to make two awful, charred to a crisp burgers that was just slapped together carelessly like McDonalds on Christmas Day. Absolutely tasteless and so dry we had to choke them down. If we werent starving, we wouldn't have scraped our throats eating them. Mainely Burgers will be our go to from now on as they are fantastic. I wish we could get our our money back and an apology for how awful these burgers were. Its like we bought them from a guy at a barbecue that has no business grilling anything. So if you want to flush 30 bucks down the drain (literally because youll be gagging on these burgers and the tatse was off as well), then this is definitely your place. Shame on me for making a last-minute change in my order and going with salmon... I should have figured salmon is not a smart choice from a sandwich/cafe restaurant, but I was feeling bold! Yeah, the salmon wasn't great- it tasted like the frozen variety, but I did appreciate the glaze/sauce (something citrus-y) and that it was topped w/ grape tomatoes & chunks of avocado. For my sides, I got broccolini which turned out to be just regular broccoli crowns & the worst mashed potatoes I've ever had. They're both a) using the wrong variety of potato which doesn't have enough starch to hold up and b) over-whipping so that the mash is gluey (and yet still chunky).. yeah, it was bad. My dining companion got the grilled chicken sandwich which he said was okay not great. For his side, we got fries which were not only TERRIBLY soggy, but quite frankly the saltiest fries I've ever had. Somehow, the salt permeated through the entire fry. Blech. I live nearby, and so wanted this place to be great. It's not. I just had the steak queso sandwich. Soggy, fluffy white bread filled with a concoction that looks like dog food. I thought I was getting an interesting take on the traditional Steak Bomb. No such luck. Ground meat mixed with cheese sauce to give it a weird color and greasy texture. What a treat, seriously! On a gloomy Sunday afternoon, my housemates and I decided we are starving! As many know, the more people there are, the harder it is to decide on food (especially if we want to do take out!) We were planning on ordering from another subpar sandwich shop until my housemate said "NO, STOP! CITY SLICKER CAFE, I HAVE A MENU!" So there we were, stopped at our Foodler browsing. We quickly glanced at the menu and were happy with the pricing. So we did it, we made a decision: City Slicker Cafe. As we made our wish list of calories, we were getting more and more excited to feed our growling tummies. Come to find out, they were out of half of our wish list, but it's okay, we were at the point where anything sounds great. 20 minutes, the lady said, until we will be happily fed. To kill the time, we went to the Dollar Store down the street to stock up on tasty treats, the liquor store for Hurricane Sandy necessities, and then over to CSC. The second we walked in, I wish we just went and sat down. The cafe is super cute and the folks who work there are intensely kind. But, we had bad horror movies in front of us, so back home we went. We cracked the food open and took our first bites... NIRVANA! Seriously, this food is amazing. Even more, the french fries were perfectly crisp and deliciously salted. Some standouts are the mashed with gravy, the pasta with chicken, cream sauce and broccoli, the bistro pizza, and the caesar salad wrap. When you order on Uber eats, the delivery comes straight from the business, so you'll have to watch your phone for updates (calls or texts). Kind of a crazy, expansive, eclectic menu. Pot stickers, empanadas, pot roast and pizza! Everything I tried so far is very good. Pizza is greek style but very crisp and crunchy. Entrees are sit down restaurant quality with Asian and Latin influences. It's as if someone from Asia married someone from Latin America, opened a restaurant, mastered American cooking together and then added influences of what they knew best. Alright so here's the deal. This used to be the ten ten cafe (and still is if you ask my phone). I only ever got pizza from ten ten and usually not in the state of mind to be judging anything (if you know what I mean). However, I have formed a serious love affair with City Slickers. It all started with the steak sandwich, which is, I admit, a bit sparse - only steak, shallots, and blue cheese. But it's pretty fantastic and the bread is awesome. And really, who buys steak sandwiches for the accoutrement? Not this girl. I've also had the burgers which can also be pretty darn good (but I warn, on a busy night - you might need to reheat yours). The fries are great (and come in big portions) and they've got some yummy sauces to boot - someone else reviewed the garlic sauce and I agree. SO GOOD. I haven't had their pizza but I have had their calzones. I too found the crust to be a bit greasy but in a delectable not disgusting way. Everyone's different right? I like em better with vegetables but I've also tried the buffalo chicken (and been told by a righteous buffalo fan that it was tasty). I eat all of my calzones with the blue cheese sauce and I always have enough for a second meal (even when ordering the small). I'll keep this one short because there isn't too much to say about a wanna be upscale pizza eatery. - Fast delivery - Reasonable prices - great list of toppings and ingredients ( the dont use mechanically produced chicken!) - lots of beverage options(no adult bevs sorry) -Customizable salad/wrap/pizza/calzones are a standard ( great for picky people My favorite item on the menu is actually a dipping sauce! I like to order their crispy fries ( hand cut potatoes, not frozen!) and get each of their dipping sauces... the creamy wasabi is great, just a little bit of heat, the lemon aoli is not as light as it may seem, but is still delicious with the fries. I love the location as well, right next to Conway park if you want to have lunch outside on a nice day. I've never eaten inside, but its a little more modern and tidy than any other pizza place that isn't a full blown restaurant. Not a romantic date place! I've lived pretty close to City Slicker for many years but have only stopped in a handful of times. It always seems pretty empty in here but I guess they do a solid takeout/delivery business. Recently I had the "city girl" pizza with portobello mushrooms, caramelized onions, and gorgonzola cheese. Great combination! Definitely on the salty and greasy side but I'm not complaining. The cheese blend and sauce are good. The pizzas are "pan pizza" style, so they look and taste a little different from your typical pizza. The crust is crispy rather than chewy and they cook it to golden brown, but you can request a lighter bake if you want. They also offer many other options like sandwiches, pasta, and salads. Overall, City Slicker is not necessarily what I'd go for every time I'm craving pizza--Leone's is still my favorite pizza in Somerville--but definitely a good option to throw into the rotation! read more

LOVE this place. I've only ever ordered delivery, but I think that makes it even more qualified because my food always arrives piping hot and in the condition it's supposed to show up at the table if I were dining in. The french fries are crispy, the sauces tasty, and the pizzas are amazing - I can't get enough of their Steak and Potato Pizza. I also like that they have a delivery tracker so you know what stage of the process your order is in (always helpful when you're starving and want to know when your food should arrive). I live real close by so have grabbed takeout from City Slicker about a handful of times, each of which were very pleasant. The staff is super friendly and the food meets expectations. They cater to the takeout crowd, having a pretty big variety of options on the menu, most of which is fast food. I personally recommend the fries and tots, I haven't had the entrees but my friends enjoyed whatever they ordered, from sandwiches to steak tips. read more

What happened??? This place used to be unbelievably good since the early days of the Urban Gourmet era. I unashamedly ate here at least three times a month. I've since moved and missed it dearly. I recently visited a friend in Somerville today whom had never tried it. I was raving and raving about all the different menu items. Past items that seemed to have disappeared from the menu I noticed as we walked in. None of the old items were there. No big deal, menus change and I was never afraid to try ANYTHING new on their menu as it would always be good no matter what. I ordered the empanada and ordered a slice for me one one for my friend to try. W. T. F. They changed the pizza. I'm assuming there is a new owner. My advice is change the name of the place if you change the pizza. Sadly, I will never return. Could have kept an extra star or two because the empanada was okay, but lost it because an employee or the owner's kids were running around the place. WHY DID YOU CHANGE THE PIZZA?!?!? read more

Ok, so I know I'm going against the grain here, but I did not like the pizza. Ordered the buffalo chicken pizza off of Foodler because it had great reviews. The delivery guy came ahead of schedule, hence the 2 stars. So I was damn stoked for this pizza after reading these Yelp reviews. I couldn't believe the resemblance to Pizza Hut. Have you guys had Pizza Hut recently? I unfortunately have. My mom likes it because she has the taste buds of a poor girl who grew up in Manchester, NH (which she is...). She eats buttered spaghetti and canned bread. I'm telling you, man, that pizza could have been from Pizza Hut!!! I'm ALL for unhealthy foods. Slap on dat cheese n carbs n salt, etc. But I couldn't do it, man. The crust was practically dripping in butter and, I dunno, it was difficult for me to stomach. I can't fathom some of the disparaging remarks made against the all mighty City Slicker. Has the place undergone a revolution since 2007? Because since March 2008 this place has been serving up tremendously delicious pies, sandwiches, salads and more. I mean, Sarah G., if you can cook a bacon cheeseburger pizza without it being greasy, more power to you. The mind boggles at the idea of such a thing. It's like saying you ordered a rare steak but were put off by all the blood on your plate. At any rate, I have had all kinds of pies from City Slicker and not one of them has been too greasy or anything but delicious. I'm not saying they're good for your health, WTF it's a pizza, use moderation. I'd rather have one slice of tasty tasty pizza than a whole pie of non-greasy pizza. And the Cobb sandwich, heavenly lord, is something I have to resist buying every time I pass the place; it's the first thing I had from here and it's still the best. But what's really surprising is the entrees, the meals are actually damn fantastic as well. The steak tips - even the Mahi Mahi is superb. Yes, the sandwiches and the pizzas are a buck or more than you might find elsewhere - but I haven't found many places that serve up ingredients as fresh as they use here. Used to be 5 star now they sell the same pizza you can get anywhere. I had my rehearsal dinner catered from them because they had the best bar pizza in new england.
