The worst customer service experience that I've had in my life This training center is so uninterested in communicating with customers that the quality of their services is COMPLETELY irrelevant. I got my certificate from them a couple years ago when I applied for my FID. It's a long story, but I need another copy of certificate. I go to their website to lookup my info to see if I'm in their records, and find out that I need to contact them for a manual search. No one picked up when I called with the phone number on their website, and no one replied to my voicemail. I found a second phone number, which gave me the same results, but the voicemail message told me that the best way to reach them is over text. I try sending a text to the number, but it doesn't deliver. Eventually I found an email address to try. I never got a reply. Then I tried DMing their official Instagram page. No reply there, either. I decided to stop by the facility in person to ask them about my certificate, and also why they so hard to reach, and the place is locked during the hours when the website and google maps claims they're open. I showed up again and FINALLY caught them when they were actually holding a class. After telling me at first that they didn't have my certificate, with enough pushing they finally pulled it up. Then they had the nerve to charge me 20 bucks to print a copy. I hope that this is enough to deter you from giving these people your money, but maybe all you care about is the quality of the training itself. So, how was it? Fine, I guess. Sort of. A good sign that you can trust someone for advice about personal safety is whether they're in somewhat healthy physical shape. My instructor (both 4 years ago and now) couldn't self-defense his way out of a narrow doorway. Along with his neglect of fitness, I also distinctly remember him saying not to carry Glocks because they don't have manual safeties, which is ignorant and outdated advice. read more

If you're looking for serious training, this is not the right place. At Boston Firearms, it's as if the gun training was an afterthought. The first thing facing someone taking a course is a hard-sell for membership in the USCCA for $300, $400, or $500 a year. And I do mean hard sell - you are led to believe that membership is required. (The day I went, everyone joined - the peer pressure made sure that no one skipped this part.) It's almost as if the training exists solely as a vehicle to sell memberships. Boston Firearms must get a nice commission for each membership. Here's the good news: you can cancel the USCCA membership and get a refund. If you want to learn how to safely handle, use, store, etc a handgun - I wouldn't recommend this place. The low cost of training at Boston Firearms is nice, but you get what you pay for. It's just a matter of time before the AG's office looks into this company and sanctions them for misleading info and questionable business practices. Good luck. read more

What a great experience! I appreciated the small class size, and felt good about the attention these guys gave everyone. The hands-on part moved kind of quickly, but there was no lack of individual instruction and help along the way. A safe, comfortable environment to learn the basics of handling firearms. Our instructors took the time to explain in detail how to navigate the firearms licensing process, and what to expect regarding individual municipalities. I had a great time here, and now that I'm fully licensed, I will definitely be back for more training. read more

This class was rushed but it got me my certificate and I got to actually hold and shoot a firearm. What I didn't like is that if you post a five star review, they offer you a free class or something. Can't quite remember but it felt like I'd been duped. I went there because of the reviews and then learned that they are offering incentives for good reviews. read more

For the lay person this is an informative and necessary service, providing quality information in an adequate setting. The team mixes up story telling and humor to break the classroom feel and monotony of a regimented text teaching feel. Using videos and oral lesson plans this covers the bases. If you are an experienced gun owner or prior permit holder, ask all the pertinent questions prior to signing up. I signed up for a multi state license having already obtained my LTC in Massachusetts. Most of my time was wasted sitting through info I already knew. Great experience had I been better informed of have looked into a different class for myself. read more

Peter Riley was a very good instructor - calm, to the point, safety focused, and clearly very knowledgeable. He was patient with the total novices in the group, and made an accommodation for my disability without any fuss. A 4-person gun range for live fire practice. Free parking. Went to this place to take the "Learn to Shoot" course. Course provides a basic introduction to shooting (how to pickup, load/unload, and aim). Liked that it was about shooting and not about the more in depth stuff that comes with the licensing course (which you will need to learn if you are to be licensed in MA) After being shown how to handle the gun, you are taken to the range and allowed 30 rounds. Range is superbly maintained, and very well ventilated. They also have good safety gear (comfortable, good protection) Instructor was awesome! Professional, knowledgeable, talked to me man to man (no condescending, or talking-down), and had a good sense of humor. A few things that almost caused me to remove a star 1. When I arrived, I was not in the computer as registered for the class. I had brought paperwork from PayPal and their site to show I had paid and made a reservation. The issue was quickly resolved. While I am sure it would have been resolved even if I hadn't brought papers, it still caused a slightly less than perfect experience. 2. While I haven't a clue about their expenses, as a consumer, to me, $65 for a (relatively) simple explanation of using the gun, and 30 rounds seems a little excessive. However, it is competitively priced, so I will give them the benefit of the doubt. read more

It was an awesome experience. The instructor Mr. Peter was outstanding. He gave us so much information and tips on gun safety, awareness and how to use the gun properly. He taught at a great pace not to fast and not to slow. He also took time to answer all our questions. The live fire part was also great, he gave us tips during and after shooting to help us get better. I will definitely be taking more classes here at Boston Firearms Safety. What a great class! I went in having no idea what to expect, knowing nothing about guns, never even holding one. Tom was a very informative teacher. He could see where I struggled and helped me without making me feel uncomfortable. He is easy to talk to and extremely knowledgeable. I am now semi comfortable with guns, know that I enjoy shooting and know I NEED several more classes. I thought I had good knowledge of gun safety. What I knew was simply the common sense part. Great instructors, learned a lot about the safe handling and operation of firearms and had fun. Courses also include relevant laws with e delivery of material. Highly recommend for anyone thinking of obtaining LTC. Also fun for a date night, activity to do with friends, or solo. read more

Bought a Groupon from this place back in Oct. I been trying to schedule an appointment since but they always say that they won't be able to honor the groupon until they open the new location. They said (back in Oct 2012) that it would take a month for the new location. We are in January 2013 and still no news of the new location. Now they are saying that I need to pay an extra $160 for them to honor the deal. I wish all of these had been included in the details of the Groupon, had I known this business was using Groupon for false advertising I wouldn't have bought it. Reading the reviews from others I see that it sounds like a nice place inside, too bad they have poor management skills and lack of integrity. read more

I just received two attacking emails, and one is from from Husky O. because I gave this place a bad review.... Here's a copy and pasted text of what Husky O. sent me: "learn how to use a computer and follow directions insted of giving someone a bad review.. not our fault you don't know how to read. if you could not sigN for a class thats because there were no classes available FOR THAT DAY." I noticed that this person said "not our fault". Besides those two emails, I also received an email from Tom, the owner, telling me to take my review off, and threaten to sue me. I, too, saw that Tom responded to another person who gave this business a bad reviewing saying that he must be from another company. Tom, I don't understand why you are so concern that other companies out there are out to get you (unless you did something to them for you to be so worried?) Instead, why don't you listen to customers telling you that they have had very bad experiences with you and adjust your ways so that you can earn your respect with your customers again? By your response, you are not taking responsibility, but instead, you are telling me, the customer, that I don't know how to register online, and that I must have called the wrong place. Really? You really think we have so much time to make up all of these things? And you think that we're that stupid to differentiate when we've called the right place or not? First of all, I work in technology. I think I would know how to maneuver through a website. My comment was that your website is not intuitive, and that's a legit feedback. I took the Basic Firearms Safety Course last Saturday with a couple friends, and it was great. The instructor, Tom & his father made the 4 hour class go by super quick. Prior to this class, I had never shot a gun, let alone loaded one etc. But I left feeling confident enough to do so. They also went over the different laws & procedures that entail getting your gun license, which was helpful, given I did not realize what is and is not allowed in MA. I would highly recommend this class and be sure to partake in the live shooting at the end of the class! read more

I went to Boston Firearms a few weeks back to get my certificate so I can get my gun license and I had a great time. Tom was a great instructor and was very knowledgeable. I learned a lot through the instructor and the movies we watched. The certificate is good for Boston as well as many other cities in MA. I feel comfortable handling a gun thanks to this class. This place also has martial arts classes if anyone is interested! You also have the option of live firearm training at the end of the class which is very inexpensive. I enjoyed shooting and can't wait to go back. I'm going to take a few practice test courses and then hopefully I'll have my gun license before the year is up! read more

Took the basic firearms training class with Tom today. Great class! Very informative, fun, and educational. Teaching style was very straightforward and made me feel comfortable and confident to hold a gun. For those who may be concerned, this was also a very covid conscious class. My wife and I recently completed a basic firearms safety course with Tom as our instructor. Tom is a knowledgeable, friendly and down-to-earth guy who kept the class informative as well as entertaining. Our 4 hour class consisted of a safety orientation, an overview of the revolver/semi-auto pistol functions, firearm handling procedures, proper stance/grip, and dry-fire practice with real firearms. Class size was 8 people, and I thought this was sufficiently small to get good feedback from the instructor. However, some parts of the class felt rushed, and I think beginners could benefit from more in-class dry-fire/gun handling practice, especially with the semi-automatic pistols. We opted for the live-fire option as part of the course (I certainly recommend this if you've never shot a pistol before). Tom took the group of us to a local gun range and we had the opportunity to fire a .22 semi-automatic under his close supervision. This is certainly a plus considering that Boston Firearms is one of the few classes in the area that offers REAL live-fire training, and not a simulator. I'd say that this class provided a good crash-course intro for safe firearm handling, as well as providing the certifications necessary to apply for a Massachusetts LTC. read more

I took my MA firearms safety class here before applying for my LTC. This class was very informative and unlike other classes offered in the area this is hands on. You get trained on how to properly handle all types of pistols. The end of the class also has a live fire session. It was very fun, Tom makes the whole process fun and you are able to relax and take in all the information. I will be going back for my Utah class this month. read more

I have been to several firearms centers and Boston Firearms is one of the best. Safety is the number one concern. There is no shooting until you can properly handle the weapon. Tom and his dad make sure you are comfortable before they take you the range. FWIW, we used Groupons on two separate times and Tom honored them even though they expired before our appointments. read more

This is the 2nd time I have taken a Massachusetts Firearms Course. I went here because I bought the course for my boyfriend so we can shoot together and I went as his guest (a guest is free). This course actually did not SEEM 4 hours long which is great. The instructor keeps you well informed and trained with hands on training so you know what you are doing handling a pistol after you get your firearms license. I highly recommend this place. If you go here, make sure you use the address he provides and don't google map it because it will take you to Revere :P The only thing I didn't like about this place was the parking. Loved this place, I just finished basic firearms training today and it was fun. The extra cost for live fire training was definitely worth it. The class was perfect for me because I'm a hands- on kind of guy. If I had to break it down I would say it was 10% video/reading education and 90% HANDS-ON!!! It was my first time even touching a real gun, but by the end of the class I felt extremely comfortable. We went through the different parts of both semi-automatic and revolvers and got lots of experience on both guns. Then, we went through proper hand placement and different shooting stances. I could go on for ever because we learned so much. The entire class was able to load the gun by Inserting the clip, pull back on the slide AND THEN PREPARE TO FIRE!!!! This place is wonderful & I highly recommend the training course. From the time I entered the door they were beyond pleasant & professional (loved the old guy). I was and still am very fearful of guns. I was extremely nervous about firearms & agreed at home to do courses if the bill would be footed until I'm comfortable. I appreciated his seriousness, sternness, & yet at the same time I felt comfortable, though my hands shook a bit during live fire. His information packet is very helpful/understandable. So the beginners class I highly recommend & I look forward to taking more classes with Boston Firearms. I don't think a basic course is enough for me (I'm a nurse that has seen trauma & I certainly couldn't sit for my boards after nursing 101). So I look forward to the teaching he has to offer & he is definitely a teacher I can learn an immense amount of training from. read more

Went to Boston Firearms Training Center yesterday for our Basic training course with live fire instruction and had a good experience overall. The center has relocated to Ashland Street in Everett, so the facility is still a work in progress. Tom is clearly knowledgable about firearms and firearms laws in the state of Massachusetts. The course included a didactic section as well as a hands-on portion, where we got to build some muscle memory practicing the basic skills. Tom's instruction was smart, focused on safety, and funny. The facility is still being finished but was adequate for the class and conveniently located for the area it's in. read more

My wife and I signed up through the web for a training session with Boston Firearms. When you sign up with them you need to put down the full amount, which was $140 each. We ended up having to quarantine on the date we were scheduled due to possible COVID exposure. Boston Firearms said that we could apply the fee and choose another class date. All seemed reasonable at this point. However, when we went to the website to schedule our class, BF asked us for another payment in full. We tried for several weeks to call, email, and text to see if we could schedule a class date without paying again. Finally after multiple emails, texts, and calls, we were told that the ONLY way they could accommodate us was to enroll through the website and pay the full amount again. We were told to ask to be refunded the original payment on the day we came to the training site. They would not enroll us in a course by phone or email. We would not do so since we had such a difficult time getting in touch with them and since they gave no indication that they could be trusted to refund our original payment. (Why would we give them more money?) We finally gave up and decided to eat the $280. Do not patronize this business. They are not customer oriented and they will rip you off. read more

I just took the Basic Firearms Training (LTC 020) course at Boston Firearms with my girlfriend, and we both had a great time. The instructor, Tom, was very friendly and engaging. I'm looking to get my LTC/A, and I think the most valuable part of this course was the information provided regarding the proper procedure for applying for the license. Tom is very knowledgeable about firearms and their safe handling, as well as what to expect when applying for a license. Highly recommended. The class was small, and he was very patient in answering questions that the students asked. I participated in the live fire training, which involves shooting a .22 semi-automatic pistol (Sig Mosquito I think). Live fire is highly recommended...though personally I think it should be mandatory. read more

Just did my class here for the LTC. Tom is a great instructor and best of all we got to fire REAL guns. It was a very comfortable environment to learn in and Tom answered any and all of our questions. When looking for a place to take the class I was almost fooled into taking a class where they do not fire real firearms and only shoot at a projector due to vagueness of their website. THIS IS NOT THE SAME. Make sure you go here or call to make sure you are getting what you want. We went over a ton of helpful things and got to practice handling, reloading, safety, aiming, and cleaning of both REAL revolvers and semi automatic guns. It was way more hands on than what other places seem to offer. read more
