As someone who is fairly familiar with firearms, I think I learned what I need to obtain a license, but I can't imagine that a novice would have walked away feeling very confident. The instructor, John G., was a friendly guy and was very entertaining...at first. He had a very loose style, choosing to just talk to us instead of show any of the slides or videos on his laptop. This would have been fine, but he tended to go off on tangents, ramble on about his personal views and stories that didn't have much to do with the class, and would spend precious minutes trying to work up to his next joke. He also spoke to us as if everyone was familiar with All Things Firearm, and by the end of the second hour some the attendees were clearly becoming agitated. The class began with an announcement that Massachusetts gun laws were changing as of January 1st, but then he just moved on from there, offering no further information (a hand out or something describing the changes would have been helpful). He also spent a fair amount of time promoting websites of his friends and telling us why the NRA is not racist. After two hours, there was a break and when we returned, we received more of the same. The topics seemed very random, and after a very long story about how he is great at reading people followed by a few Bill Clinton and OJ Simpson jokes (because it is 1998, apparently), he finally got around to just showing us a bunch of videos in rapid-fire succession, with little to no context. Then the class was over, and we spent the next half hour standing in line so he could sign our certificates saying we took the class. This may sound like I'm hating on this instructor and class, but let me reiterate that he was a friendly and somewhat entertaining guy, and took time (sometimes way too much time) to answer questions. But he really needs to work on the whole "instructing" thing. It's an extremely complex topic that requires dissemination of very specific information, and I don't feel that was what we received.

The worst customer service experience that I've had in my life…read more This training center is so uninterested in communicating with customers that the quality of their services is COMPLETELY irrelevant. I got my certificate from them a couple years ago when I applied for my FID. It's a long story, but I need another copy of certificate. I go to their website to lookup my info to see if I'm in their records, and find out that I need to contact them for a manual search. No one picked up when I called with the phone number on their website, and no one replied to my voicemail. I found a second phone number, which gave me the same results, but the voicemail message told me that the best way to reach them is over text. I try sending a text to the number, but it doesn't deliver. Eventually I found an email address to try. I never got a reply. Then I tried DMing their official Instagram page. No reply there, either. I decided to stop by the facility in person to ask them about my certificate, and also why they so hard to reach, and the place is locked during the hours when the website and google maps claims they're open. I showed up again and FINALLY caught them when they were actually holding a class. After telling me at first that they didn't have my certificate, with enough pushing they finally pulled it up. Then they had the nerve to charge me 20 bucks to print a copy. I hope that this is enough to deter you from giving these people your money, but maybe all you care about is the quality of the training itself. So, how was it? Fine, I guess. Sort of. A good sign that you can trust someone for advice about personal safety is whether they're in somewhat healthy physical shape. My instructor (both 4 years ago and now) couldn't self-defense his way out of a narrow doorway. Along with his neglect of fitness, I also distinctly remember him saying not to carry Glocks because they don't have manual safeties, which is ignorant and outdated advice.

This particular club was founded back when Woburn was nothing but fields. The original building itself still stands and is absolutely in use today. Now, it's a bit cramped in that neigborhood - condos and office buildings are nearby. But there is a surprising number of indoor and outdoor ranges here. 2 of which are open 24 hours a day! If you need to take a gun safety class: This is where you want to go. The volunteer staff here are absolutely the kind of people you want teaching you about the proper safety and respect to be used around firearms. Their knowledge and attitude are awesome. AND - this particular gun safety class allows you to actually fire several different guns - which not all gun safety classes do. I feel it is absolutely essentital! Not to mention - fun! The club is great - the members are great - the facilities are great. We are lucky to have this place in our neck of the woods!

The live-fire portion of the class has each student matched up with an instructor 1 on 1 (this is a huge benefit for those people who are a little unsure about firearms). A follow up night of classroom instruction features a unique opportunity to have access to a Wilburn Police officer (in my case he was a Detective) to ask questions of. I appreciated this portion of the class because it allowed me to ask questions about the interpretation of Massachusetts firearms laws directly to an officer of the law. I had very little experience shooting firearms before enrolling in this class.
