I'm going this 2 stars instead of 1 only because I really do feel like the people there care about the clients. But the service I received is not the service I signed up for. They promise matching based on compatibility, and that's not what you get. I got matched with people based on demographics and age, and in most cases I think that's it. I didn't have much in common with most of my matches. In one case we literally looked awkwardly at each other for the entire date. Someone else just didn't have time to meet. I realize part of the problem is I'm eccentric, but I was assured they had eccentric women. If you're mainstream enough for this to work for you, you probably don't need it. eHarmony will be fine for a fraction of the cost. I realize they can only work with what they have, but they failed to screen for some basic characteristics. For example, I said I wanted someone non-religious who didn't want any (more) children. So they matched me with a woman that I had decent chemistry with, but she went to women's bible study and took her daughter to church weekly, and wanted someone religious. Then they matched me with someone super conservative who went to church weekly and wanted children, who, in a roundabout way, suggested the shooting at Pulse nightclub was a punishment for sin. Then they matched me with someone I really liked and might have had potential with, but she broke my heart... because she wanted children. I asked them: "Why are you matching me with women who want children when you know I've had a vasectomy?" Their reply: "A lot of women your age want children." Huh? It took me a month to feel like myself again after that. They gave me a few "do-overs" to make up for the bad matches, but I eventually ran out of matches. They contacted me and gave me a good deal to get unlimited matches for a year. That was 4 months ago. I haven't heard from them since. I suppose unlimited matches doesn't necessarily mean any. There is nothing that will make you feel more alone in the world than dropping a few thousand to meet someone and coming up empty-handed. This was the WORST "investment" I ever made. A friend joined up because she was having trouble meeting men of the same background as we are (highly educated, financially secure, social) so she joined Boston Matchmakers. After she told me what she learned in the intake and how excited she was, I joined a few days later because I thought this would be a great way to meet someone with long term potential. I was so clear on what I was looking for. A single man, with a good education, a job where he could support himself that wanted children. And they've come back with men that have a "slight hand tremor", are socially awkward, horrible halitosis, unemployed, unsure if they'd be open to kids. I've gone on two dates in almost 10 months. They've called me to meet men that don't want children 4 times. I have written to them that was a DEALBREAKER and yet they market these men to me as having great compatibility. The most recent call was on 7/22/15. Both my friend and I have consistently complained that we are not getting the service that was sold to us, and if I treated my clients this way I would be out of a job. They tell me to be patient, it's part of the fine tuning process. This is total BS. Fine tuning is one thing, not even getting in the ballpark is another. What started out as a very nice conversation at their [rented] makeshift office in downtown Boston, turned into a confrontational, uncomfortable, unprofessional sales pitch. Starting price 7 GRAND for a handful of referrals. When I admitted this was a bit of a sticker shock, she quickly knocked it down to 3k. At this point Im questioning the "value" altogether. What was most concerning was she couldnt speak to any specifics regarding number of men in their portfolio, demographics, or any experiences of other singletons investing in this service. Hi: I joined Boston Matchmakers thinking I could meet quality men fitting my criteria. After filling out several forms and being interviewed, I indicated what sort of men I wanted to meet for dating. I was given 4 dates to the tune of $1500. ( Was told that I got a bargain- as some people were paying up to $5000) I met my first date. My date could not be further than what I was looking for. We had no interests in common what soever. In fact, I indicated what I did not want for criteria, and yet this company matched me with someone with the opposite of what I asked for. When I called them and gave them feedback, they said it was hard to find men my age with what i was looking for. So for $1500, I received the opposite of what I wanted. When I tried to cancel my membership, they said I would still have to pay $500 as a deposit and 2 ($50) monthly payments! I called my credit cart company and they put a block on payment. However, I am not sure what the final outcome will be. THIS COMPANY IS A TOTAL RIP OFF! THEY DO NOT PROVIDE ANYTHING FOR THE MONEY I PAID! Hi, I wanted to update you all. So from my 93A letter I sent to Boston Match Makers, Martha has come back and said that BMM will refund me 1/2 of the purchase price. Martha mentioned that she presented my case to "management" and this is all they were willing to do. Naturally, I asked Martha to send me the documentation of what was presented and I haven't heard back from Boston Match Makers. I am thinking I never will. I have heard back from the attorney generals office and they stated they are looking into this and will contact Boston Match Makers. You can also fill out a complaint at: http://www.mass.gov/ago/consumer-resources/filing-a-complaint-with-the-attorney-generals.html The Attorney Generals office has informed me that if enough legitimate complaints are filed, it is more likely they will formally look into all of the complaints. I paid a lot of money and I am still getting nothing from Boston Match Makers; as a consumer I have every right to see what was presented to the "management" at BMM that would allow them to decide I should only get 1/2 my money back. I have found working with Brenan @ Boston Matchmakers a joy and am very surprised at the negative reviews. My experience was positive. I was matched with quality gentlemen who fit the criteria. They were my equal, plus more. When compared with It's just Lunch, IJL, (which I have also tried) IJL does not listen and has NO inventory to select from! When you refuse a date from them, they get snarky with you! IJL will match you with anyone just to keep you quiet! My own experience seems vastly different than most reviews I see. Mine was awesome from the Braintree office with Brenan McGarrigle! I interviewed for an hour and a half with her and she was so positive and upbeat I couldn't help but be excited! It's like anything else in life, you get what you give. I was honest and forthright in what I was looking for and after each date I filled out the review with the pros and cons. Please do not waste your money on BMM. It is a scam. I signed up for 14 dates over a year ago and have only been on 4 although I was told there were hundreds of men in my age range and meeting my criteria before I signed up. One of the dates showed up with a stained sweat sheet on and had missing teeth. When I complained they stated they would not count this as one of my dates. Little compensation as I have 10 to go and wasted my time. I did file a complaint with the MA Attorney General's office hoping to work on some arbitration. I was even willing to donate the money to charity. BMM responded they were surprised to hear I was not satisfied despite having escalated to their legal council on at least 2 occasions and refused my request. They stated they would provide me with 2 additional dates. Yes, let's add insult to injury. I wouldn't be here if they could provide me dates. I joined this match making service over year ago thinking this was a smart investment for my future. I paid $2000 to be matched with four potential matches. I spent approximately four hours with sue - one of the match makers who is currently not with the company. She asked me in depth questions about my work, my likes, dislikes, what I am looking for, past relationships, my goals, etc. I was finally matched two months later- with a man who was nice but had no chemistry with me. My next match came three months later- with a man I never met because of a language barrier - I couldn't understand a word he said over the phone. I was sent his profile Like the first match over email and he didn't fit with what I asked for or wrote in my profile. The next match came after four more months -to someone who had nothing in common with me. I called to complain about the lack of matching me with people who could truly potentially be a match for me. No one ever called me back other than to send me another match. This time they set me up with someone who shared my racial background but again he was not a good fit for me and it was clear- we never met. They matched me with the last guy as a bad attempt to do their job. My take on this company is they are not in this to find their clients a match but instead to take your money. They didn't listen to one word I said and presented matches to me I could of found on plenty of fish for free. I was looking for getting introduced to quality men that I was not finding on my own. Keep getting calls from these people as if they know me and I spoke with them. Well it turns out I made the mistake of giving them my phone number from pop-up add for a dating site I thought was free. Anyway they call from disconnected numbers ie 978-699-3047. They kept calling from other different numbers but I called one back because I thought it was a call for my services (my sm business) but it was a man who calls himself Richard and they tell you who they are and ask a few basic questions as their screening process. How old am I, where do I live, what age do I prefer... a very basic process. They tell you to come it the same day as they have an opening. Right off the from that point on they make the appointment telling you to bring your checking account information ie a check book and also a debit or credit card "in order to verify who I am along with my driver's license". This is a BIG RED FLAG for me and I will not be coming to my appointment for that reason and also that they numbers they call from are sometimes phantom caller ID numbers. ANOTHER BIG RED FLAG. After reading what I see here I thought I'd share the initial process so far. I just won't open the doors of some stranger into my finances regardless of the services. Warning... to anyone who is thinking of joining Boston Match Makers. After doing online dating with no success I joined B.M.M almost a year ago, I was interviewed for 3 hours with a matching consultant. She understood that I am a 47 year old woman who is a buisnessowner, educated and single with no children. I explained that I wanted to meet a companion that is my equal with either grown or no children. After the consultant told me of all the successful stories, she finally convinced me that the $7000 package will be the best to find me the "perfect" match. My first match was a married man with young children on his way to sparating with his wife which of course I refused. Then I didn't hear from them for few months, so I called and they said winter is low with match inventory. So I waited and waited and everytime I called wondering of why I am being ignored they would threw (un)matches at me just to keep me quite. Eventually, with months of waiting I only went on 1 date and the whole time I wondered how this man can even be a close match. Finally, they said they're having hard time matching me for the reason that men are turrned off by my religious background. So to test the match-maker theory, I removed that part from my profile and of course it was just an excuse. Because guess what! Still no matches. I tried to ask for my money back and they refused. This service was a waste of my money. Signing up was great back in September 2015. I have not been on 1 date till this day. I read in the reviews that many called and e mailed BMM, now that got me thinking that you went there for the interview and did there test evaluation thing that they gives BMM help to match you with people and sit for 90min with them. Now if I was not getting the right fit, I would see BMM face to face and say hey lets meet to revisit me and my profile and the people that your setting me up are way off base, ("so these reviews say") what would it cost BMM to give another 3 dates it would cost? If I could give 1/2 a star I would. After a long, intense interview, I handed over a check with the promise that if I had even a little concern, I should call and would have someone to talk to. After giving the check, I had a real panic attack and contacted them requesting a call and to NOT cash my check. Of course they cashed the check and did not call. The next day I got a call from the saleswoman who claims to be a counselor. The long and the short of it was she got me to agree to postpone my membership. Due to the extreme anxiety (I am a widow and have not been on any dates since my husband passed) I started to see a therapist. Long story short, I was not ready for this and contacted them to cancel my membership and get a refund. After two weeks, no surprise, I did not get a call back. I called them back and when I did get a call I was told that the woman on the phone would speak to the saleswoman to see what she wants to do. What she wants to do? I revoked their permission to cash my check, so there should be no question. I still wait for the return of my check. I prefer Boston Matchmakers after years of online dating. The people here are nice and considerate of my preferences but when there's few men that are available at Boston Matchmakers it's hard for them to give us all our perfect guys. I worked with Brenan personally and I think the things they're saying about her is appalling. She seems kind, sincere and actually honest. I've been on a few dates so far and I like the men but haven't found my guy YET! All good things for this place. read more
