This place is genuinely the worst place. The doctors are rude (made me cry several times and looked at me straight faced). the doctor had to call me back after my appointment to apologize for his behavior. and the front desk hires morons who can't type right. I've called every hour for a week and a half and nobody has picked up my call. It just says that nobody is on the other side and hangs up. Then I call another extension to explain my situation and they just scream at me asking what my date of birth is. So inhumane and no compassion I wonder who trained these awful people. Then we find out that after 2 months of me making appointments they have typed my email wrong because they can't spell the word "college" they proceed to laugh about it while I'm in such distress because I haven't had access to my medical records that I've been desperately calling for for about a week and a half. I had knee surgery on October 27 by Dr. Karlson. As always the office staff and medical assistants in the office were professional and friendly. The surgery was performed at BOSS Outpatient Surgical Suites, and everyone was kind, efficient and very professional. The entire environment was calm and reassuring. Dr. Karlson, as always is a superb surgeon and has a kind manner, explaining everything that would happen. The surgery started on time and I was discharged on time with complete post-op instructions. read more

This is a multi physician office so it's possible that other doctors provide medical care than what I received. I saw Dr. Troy three times and though I definitely found him to be very abrupt and not that interested in what I had to say, my third experience made me seek out a new doctor and file a complaint with the office manager. I have never done that before at any medical practice, but i think his treatment of me really negatively affected my medical care. He yelled about me from across the office and then at me, seemed to have forgotten exactly why I was there (and I'm guessing he didn't bother reading notes), and interrupted me/argued with me every time I tried to talk. After I complained I was given the option of seeing someone else in the practice but after that experience I don't even want to run into him in the hallway. I don't know about the other providers like I said, but if you are assigned Dr. Troy as a new patient I recommend asking for someone else. read more

I've been going to pro sports in Cambridge for several years with a minor knee injury from a fall one icy winter. I've only seen Dr. Burk. He's polite, answers all my questions and has good bedside manners. I sometimes find that afternoon appointments can have a long wait. It seems like a more popular time to come. Even when Dr. Burk seems rushed, he doesn't act like it and will go through all the information he has and questions I have. I'm also the kind of person that believes if humans can put man on the moon, they can fix my knee! Luckily so does he. He fixed my knee the first time around and between the cortisone shot, cast, and a good rehab place I was able to train for a bike trip and run a half marathon. read more

Fine hospital, but lousy experience. First, this is a clean facility, so I'm automatically adding two stars. My experience primarily hinges on an incorrect diagnosis for my knee injury. Which isn't criminal, by any stretch! (Stretch! Ha!) But I came in with a running-specific injury, was told to "stop running" by a pair of non-running doctors at Pro Sports, and was later totally cured after a 10-minute session with a postural therapist who, of course, runs herself. The staff was also unable to offer an accurate ballpark of the cost $$$ of the visit, which surprised me when I received my bill the very next week. If you're a runner, I'd recommend visiting a postural therapist instead. read more

They do not listen to patient complaint. I have a hip problem, informed them that acupuncture helped. They gave me an injection after x-rays and MRI, but was not in correct location. I was told to wait 3 months then will evaluate, after three months got a more costly and painful injection then MRI then after suffering for a year the physical therapist confirmed that It was muscle tightening which first injection if performed correctly would have addressed the problem. Dr. Burke's license should be taken away from him. He actually saw me for less than 3 minutes and his two comments were, "we want to rule out cancer" and "You can always use a walker". AVOID AT ALL COST read more

Last time I was there, Dr Burke saw me ONE AND A HALF HOUR after my scheduled visit time ! He then told me I should have used that time to get my X-Ray, and that the front desk should have told me that. They had not. Because nothing gets fixed without client feedback, I mentioned it to him. He said a quick "I'm sorry" and moved on to his next appointment. I did not get the feeling he would talk to the receptionists about this (though I could be wrong). One week ahead of my 2nd appointment, I called the desk to ask wether I should get a second X-Ray before seeing him. "I don't know. I will ask him to call you" was their answer. He never called. I just canceled my appointment. As a surgeon I would recommand him (my shoulder replacement is working out just fine). But he needs to communicate with the front desk whose performance is less than stellar. Please, Pro-Sports, read the many similar negative reviews of your desk staff and do something about it ! read more

Had two terrible experiences with the phone staff just trying to book an appointment. On hold for 10 mins, transferred to voicemails, etc. When I finally did get to talk to someone they offered me an appointment with a physicians assistant. You don't call an orthopedic specialist to see a PA. Knowing that just getting an appointment with a doctor would take a half hour, I passed and called MGH. Who are awesome by the way. Hope the office reads this and realizes that they need to work on their front desk staff. read more

Dr Troy is rude and arrogant . I complained about him to my PCP and she agreed with me and said it's not the first time she hears about his bed side manner . I really think he should stop practicing . All he knows is to diagnose you with arthritis and give a cortisone shot !!! I'm 34 years old with SEVERE arthritis in my hip. Sometimes I have to stop while walking because the pain is so overwhelming. My physical therapist was actually the one who diagnosed the severe arthritis first. It goes like this; a former PCP (not mine) at Mount Auburn Med Assoc. said the x-Ray was "unremarkable," a diagnosis I found encouraging (that PCP ended up leaving that practice shortly after my diagnosis) It took me another 6-7 months of excruciating pain to realize "uh, this is remarkable, remarkably painful and its not getting better." So I was directed to Dr Troy by my PCP, but the PT, who I trusted because she was the first person to take my pain seriously, said she'd heard bad things about Troy and to try someone else. This is where we meet Dr Mengele, er, sorry, I mean Dr Miegel. Our first appt took about 30 seconds and he suggested a deep tissue cortisone injection to deal with the pain. Those shots are supposed to last six months, when I came back two weeks later in the same amount of pain as if I'd had no shot at all, he sits me down, looks at me and says "well, you're not getting another shot, so why don't you just take Advil and come back when you're 50"!?!?!?!?!!? I was too stunned to say anything at the time so I went right to Newton Wellesley. Completely different situation. They cared about and did something about my pain. And even at my age, they saw the extent of arthritis and said immediately: "you can manage the pain, but I think you need a new hip." I couldn't believe the difference in quality of care and bedside manner. Secretary's also knew what they were doing, not like snail the at Mt Auburn who watches movies all day in between doing her job, which tend to over lap. Newton Wellesley also has at least three secretary's at every kiosk/desk and they're VERY polite. Sorry it was so long but I wanted to get it all out. Dr Laurie Katz treated first and was very kind and very receptive to my pain, buy she mostly does ortho knee stuff full time now. She referred me to Dr Hanmer, who was just as congenial with a dry sense of humor, that I personally enjoyed. He says he does six hips a week. He did mine on June 3, I was walking around, and up stairs on crutches on JUNE 4TH. I don't want to raise anyone's expectations, maybe it was my age, but two Advil certainly wouldn't have done it. Newton Wellesley is where to go for orthopedics. I'm changing my PCP because of it. Thanks for listening, hope it helps somebody. read more

After looking at only 1 xray of my right shoulder Dr. Leo Troy Jr. said I had arthritis and rotator cuff tendonitis and gave me a cortisone shot and sent me to PT. He asked no questions of me. NO MRI. I quit PT after 2 sessions because I just hurt more. The doc for my 2nd opinion took multiple XRAYs and MRI, and said I have a rotator cuff TEAR and minimal arthritis. He even showed me on the XRay where the issue was. Dr. Troy is Arrogant and a bad doctor. Would never recommend him or go back. WRONG DIAGNOSIS! read more

I worked with Dr Werger and he did my hip replacement. He was excellent and provided me with the confidence I needed to get the hip replaced. He used an anterior approach and I was back to work in 3 weeks. My incision healed quickly and beautifully as he used a special type of bandage that was high tech! Highly recommend him and pro sports. read more

I can't comment on the quality of actual medical care because I didn't even get that far. The receptionists are THAT incompetent. I should have listened to the other reviews.. Though I took special pains to be polite when I called, the receptionist that answered the phone was unpleasant at best, which could be forgivable if she was actually good at her job. During that call, I explained to her that I had injured my ankle and had been experiencing pain for two months. We set an appointment for this morning at 9:15 am. She took my name, DOB, and insurance info, and told me to come early since I was a new patient, said I'd get an xray when I arrived. I wrote it all down, relieved and excited to finally be getting treatment! yay! I woke up bright and early this morning, wrapped my ankle, walked to auburn (cause I'm poor and can't afford a cab). When I got there, the receptionist looked for my name and found it misspelled (it's five letters and two syllables....not a hard name to get right.) She verified my date of birth. good, good, I thought... and then matter-of-factly told me that there was NO APPNT on record. I asked her to check again. No appnt. Are you sure, I said? I have it all written down here? We don't have an appnt on record for you, she said. What day did you call? Aug. 21st. No, I don't see anything. She offered no apology. No taking of responsibility. Nothing but a cold, blank stare. So apparently new patients call Pro Sports to leave their name, DOB, and insurance info for the hell of it!! (and not to book appointments). And then they walk a mile on their injured ankle to take in the view! The least these people could do is book a damn appointment. If not that then maybe, possibly offer an apology for making such a sh*ty mistake? Apparently, that's too much to ask. read more

Had hip replacement by Dr Meigel at Pro Sports Cambridge and could not be more pleased. From pre-op guidance with physical therapy staff to surgery to post-op physical therapy they really took care of me better than I could ever imagine. Such a pain free informative experience. I would highly recommend Dr. Matthew Werger for anterior hip replacement surgery. I had past history of Lyme disease and he was very willing and interested in working with me to ensure I was not further compromised by the necessary surgery. Lyme disease can be very unpredictable but it did not deter Dr. Werger on any level from proceeding as he was very cautious and thorough to make sure we covered all the bases - before and after surgery. His approach to your surgery is inclusive of your medical history and of your thoughts and ideas about it. Dr. Werger listens and is a true professional. My surgery went very, very well and I have Dr. Werger to thank for that! read more

I have my first knee problem (I'm 43) and I looked around for reviews so that I could call someplace for an appointment. I didn't find much on Prosports, but the Cambridge office is right at Mt.Auburn Hospital and so very convenient for me. Now that I have had my first appointment, I wanted to leave a good review for the next person who needs it. Starting with when I called the office for an appointment, I had very professional, fast (but not rushed) service and very helpful information and advice, so I recommend this office highly. I was actually seen a few minutes early! The people at the desk (I've met two now) are knowledgable helpful, polite and they speak well. I am personally always more comfortable when offices take the time to train the front desk staff well; I feel that it shows that they pay attention to detail. I called one other office and talked to such a confusing, gum-chewing gal, who asked "when do you want to come in?" and then EVERYTHING that I suggested was "not possible." So I chose Prosports and I just had a great first visit and I learned a lot about my problem. I may need surgery yet, but at least I feel like I am getting excellent care and all options are being considered. This was as good as a doctor's visit can get. read more

After having been to this clinic twice within the last two years with a small meniscus tear, I once again opted not to have arthoscopic surgery. Though it is clear that Dr. Troy is an extremely competent doctor, and very likeable, I was not entirely convinced nor comfortable with the explanation of my condition - the pros and cons of surgery straight away vs. physical therapy and other less invasive measures. A matter of style, I suppose. Glad I chose not to have surgery recently because my kneed is pain- free once again. In short, I find the style here perhaps more trigger happy with surgery as the main option. All that said, I found the staff there to be very pleasant, efficient, and responsive. read more

I am a 56 year young female, who lived with hip pain. After 3 years of limping and in pain I had a consultation with Dr. Miegel. One look at my X-Rays, he knew I was a candidate for a Total Hip Replacement. I was Bone on Bone! I have never been hospitalized, so naturally I was nervous. Between Dr. Miegel and the Staff at Mt Auburn I had the most AMAZING EXPERIENCE. I am 9 weeks out and cleared from all restrictions. I wish I hadn't waited so long. I found Dr. Miegel to be very knowledgeable, caring and professional. His office staff equally professional. I looked forward to seeing him every morning! I cannot speak any more highly of him or the procedure - Anterior Hip Replacement. So Happy He Was My Surgeon and Would HIGHLY RECOMMEND HIM. read more

I really like Mt Auburn Hospital. My husband And I have both had previous positive experiences there. This time, however, the orthopedics dept. totally failed. My husband was admitted with severe pain in the knee, and was sent home a few days later on painkillers with the misdiagnosis of pseudo gout. The attending orthopedist's pronouncement, "This is not a septic knee" resulted In vital antibiotic treatment and surgery being delayed. Two days after being released from Mt Auburn, we were sent by our doctor to Beth Israel Deaconess where they correctly diagnosed him with septic arthritis, immediately started him on IV antibiotics and where he had open debridement surgery on the knee. He is now home on weeks of home IV antibiotics, is still in pain, and cannot walk. Literature demonstrates that if antibiotic treatment is started within 24 to 48 hours of onset, prognosis is better. The orthopedist at Mt Auburn caused my husband to miss this window. read more

I have a vertical and horizontal meniscal tear and arthritis behind the knee, therefore I am not a good candidate for arthroscopic surgery to repair the tear. I had severe knee discomfort and could not move through my day without discomfort. One of the doctors at Pro Sport Ortho recommended a gel injection to cushion the joint. It took two weeks to get the medication approved and delivered to the doctor's office. It came to the office two days before my daughter's wedding. I called the office and asked if there was anyone in the office who could squeeze me in and administer the gel so that I could rest it and then cautiously enjoy the wedding. Dr. Troy offered to help me out. I was not his patient, but I was a patient of the practice. He was so kind and obviously a skilled doctor. I will forever be grateful to him and the office staff for doing their best to help me out even though it was not easy for them to do so. I would not hesitate to see him for any other orthopedic problem I might encounter and recommend him highly. read more

If I could give a solid ZERO, I would for the lack of patient focus and patient service. Called to make an appointment -- was told the doc did NOT take our insurance because it was Network Health (first problem)... bigger problem, we do NOT have Network Health... they just kept telling me I was wrong because their piece of paper said my member ID showed network health. I called Tufts to confirm, as I found the doctor on the preferred physician list. Tufts confirmed the scheduling department's piece of paper was INCORRECT and asked them to call. I called scheduling back and she told me I should call the billing department... REALLY? I connected to the billing department who again told me I was INCORRECT and that she, in her experience, knew the doc did not take the insurance, but if I wanted to call his other office, I could try. In fact, the DOCTOR DOES accept the insurance! What do you know? TERRIBLE patient experience at ProSports. Terrible. Clearly your customer 'service' folks aren't aware that patients have choices. We will go elsewhere. Training would be great. It's worth it. read more

the doctors and PAs are good. xrays are done right across the hall, and the office itself is right in Mt Auburn Hospital, so good access to parking, everything centrally located and handicap accessible for those with mobility issues. the administrative staff is really not organized at all. surgical coordinators NEVER return calls. be prepared to wait for appointments, and don't expect to see the doctor directly unless it's an emergency. administrative staff seem really overwhelmed and under qualified; and it shows in their lack of customer service. oh, and all prescriptions need to be picked up in person, so don't assume the doctor can call in a refill to CVS for you. read more
