This is an adorable little public library that does its best to do what it's meant to: provide a…read morespace for all local residents to read, study and access an intellectually stimulating environment. Lacking great funds, this library is not like Boston or Cambridge Public Libraries, with their fancy lobbies and shiny computers. It is, however, a safe space, a clean space and a welcome space. Some of the punters are... well, let's say 'interesting' to look at, but that should not deter you from using the library. Reading is for everyone!

First of…read moreall, it's so nicely designed, with an atrium and a cool park with green grass and a cement structure in the back! There is a small parking lot as well as street parking too! I love all the glass and the rose wood looking paneling. The children's section is SO quiet and calm compared to the other libraries I have frequented. Same for the toddler singing time on Tuesday's. It is small and intimate, friendly and fun! There are plenty of puppets, pretend play toys, trains, paper and crayons etc for the kids to entertain themselves. Whether baby, toddler or big kid, there's something for everyone! Thea the primary children's librarian that's ive come in contact with is super nice and has always greeted us with a large smile. She recently helped me find various books on telling time and Paddington Bear. She was so helpful and kind, knowledgeable and quick. The staff at checkout is always the same bunch and they are so low key and cool as well! The fines are pretty steep if you have over due books. They even once helped me resolve a fine that I was confused about. They took my word that I never had that book and removed the fine immediately. There is a used book sale every so often and it's a cool sale Bc I have gotten a lot of treasures at this sale! I plan to donate my books here when I no longer need them Bc i feel good about supporting this library. This is how libraries should be...comfortable, friendly, clean and pleasant.

I'm writing this review hoping a staff member will see it and take action to improve the customer…read moresatisfaction. The place is great (really close to my house and for that I'm grateful). Clean tables and floors, nice staff. However, every time I go into the library to study I end up really annoyed by 2 things: 1. There are very few ( I think only 1) electrical outlets near the tables. This makes no sense because most people nowadays study with laptops and carry their chargers around. So many times I have been forced to either leave or wait for the one table that is next to the plug to be emptied, so I can go ahead and connect my charger. It would be nice if they can add more outlets. 2. The most annoying thing however, is to study in this library after 3pm on weekdays. The reason is that mothers or nannies come with the little kids that have just gotten out of school, apparently to spend time. The kids start running, screaming at the top of their lungs and nothing is done about it by either the parents or the staff. I think the library staff could bring it to the attention of the parents, rather than let the screaming kids disrupt study time for the rest of us.

I'm originally from Boston, so I frequented the BPL in Copley Square quite a bit. Since I moved around so much, I feel quite at home at Thayer Public Library. Staff are very accommodating and polite, and able to help with almost anything you need. Their media collection is massive compared to the BPL, and I simply just love it. Plus, I live across the street, so yay me!

After returning back to Hyde Park I maintained residency in Hyde Park because I love this city. I am a full-time college student and a single parent of two. I love the children's floor they have and I am at the library a minimum of three times a week and for hours on end each visit. Today while reading and taking notes there was a young woman and man who I believe work here that were talking at the circulation desk. At this point I have been here for about 2 and a half hours and they have been there taking the while time. A woman walks in looking for a book she left here the night before. As it turns out she couldn't check the book out for whatever reason and the librarian on duty told her she would hold it for her for the next day. That specific librarian was on her lunch break and the younger woman "barely" looked for the book before she told the patron she couldn't find it. The patron seemed agitated not fully understanding the situation, in my opinion. The patron kept repeating, "she said she would eave it for me". The younger woman said she is on her lunch break come back in a hour and the patron repeated her previous statement. The younger woman then said, "well I don't know what to tell you I can't find it. She will be back in a hour from lunch come back then". As a social worker I was appalled by the treatment that this patron received at the library today. It appeared in my opinion that the patron may have had some cognitive delays and couldn't understand why they couldn't just reach out to the librarian in question and ask her where the book was. Without a second thought the younger woman went right back into her conversation while I sat at my computer in awe. This will not stop me from coming to this library but if I had a closer option for me and my children I would leave this branch and never look back.

It's close to the Wellesley Square and the commuter rail station, there's tons of parking here for cars and bicycles and the entire facility is completely handicapped accessible. Wellesley's Free Library is a winner. This is a large library with a huge collection of books. I have not seen a book on display about our Great President Trump or any of the wonderful women he has hired. Many books are on all the left wing radical women and DEI people Biden has hired. I feel this is racist towards white people and conservatives. Maybe they have the books but they are very hidden. The radical democrat books are on display. This is shameful. The library should be so proud of the President of the United States of American.
