We stumbled upon this Boston Stoker location when looking for an afternoon cup of joe. The inside is much bigger than it appears from the outside. There is a ton of seating, and even a couple of isolated rooms for small groups or people to spread out. In addition, they have a foosball table in one of the rooms. We ended up getting drip coffee and bought a couple different bags of whole beans as well. So far all the coffee we've tried has been great. I have been coming to this location off and on for several years. I like the atmosphere (the building used to be a bank), the people (always very friendly), and the selections of coffee, tea, and some baked goods for snacking. I usually bring a laptop with me to do some work, for which there are ample tables and chairs to settle in. My only complaint really is that there are not that many electrical outlets for when your computer battery is running low. read more

My first time here. I had a meeting. The space is delightful. Big with lots of places to sit including the bank vault. There's a private room for groups. Staff was great. The Chai Latte was good. I didn't think to ask for a China cup so it was in disposable. Next time. I had a cheese danish. It was fresh and tasty. Parking in the morning is hit or miss even with the big lot. Morning coffee at the bank. Yep, this Boston Stoker location is very clearly a former bank building, right down to the vault in the corner that now serves as the playroom for the kids. Another adult gaming room for adults, plus a small conference room on the opposite side. In the middle, tables for laptops or talking or, here's a radical idea, drinking coffee. I chose a large cold brew, iced. It was delicious. Great coffee, nicely brewed and had all the flavor I needed. Oh, and caffeine. Good stuff! This is a new Boston Stoker's location and completely different then there other locations. It's way more hipster and loungy. The coffee is still meh. I never have understood the love people in Dayton have for this place when the coffee is just okay. I do appreciate they offer alternative milks. The staff was super nice and friendly. My son's blueberry muffin was delicious! The inside is very different. They some regular tables, some high top tables, a few conference type rooms, and a "play/game" room. It is pretty small, but has toys and games. A great set up for moms when they need to get out. Great for a mom meet-up as well. I do wish customers would be more observant and give up the room if they seem someone with kids. I just find that to be common courtesy. They also have cigars, which you can apparently buy. Not sure if you can smoke them or not there. Overall a cool spot, but they need some work on the coffee front. read more

Growing up in Dayton, I'm a little chagrined that I didn't love Boston Stoker more. During a visit back home my parents and I stopped into their new location and were completely blown away by the space, the hospitality, and the quality of our drinks. There is free Wi-Fi, which allows for multi-tasking while enjoying a latte. If working isn't your thing, there is also an entire room for games, converted from a vault from when the building was a bank. The staff is incredibly helpful, ready with recommendations, and the drinks themselves are truly delicious. Boston Stoker - keep up the great work; I'll be back. read more

My family and I have visited this establishment multiple times. First time we entered the atmosphere was very odd, not a single person greeted us and when we were finally helped we were met with passive aggressive tones and an angry demeanor that made us feel unwelcome. The coffee is excellent so we returned. Our second visit was even worse. My two young daughters very politely ordered to which they were met with hostile words and absolutely no attempt to be kind or make customers feel welcomed. It then got worse. We bought two bags of coffee beans (this way we don't have to interact with rude workers to drink our coffee!) and we then realized there was a promotion, buy three bags get one free. We politely asked the young lady who checked us out (purple hair, septum piercing, lack of friendly face) and asked if we could purchase a third one to get the promotion, before we could even finish our sentence she snapped at us. "Nothing I can do" she barked and attempted to leave. We then asked if we could have a refund so we could purchase the three bags and get one free, she rolled her eyes and hesitantly did this without a word. Confused at the exchange, what we could have possibly done to deserve this behavior, we said thank you and apologized for the inconvenience (if asking someone to do their job is an inconvenience) and the young lady said nothing. Every time I've gone here it's been great, met with friendly staff and great coffee! Today I wanted a drink I got last year (a cortado with their yummy pumpkin cookie butter flavor in it) I live 45 min away and was craving it!! the worker told me it's only for lattes... disappointed I said mmm ok well they did it last year and it was so good! signs not updated for pricing on snacks. when asked about the price being charged v. price on sign, they just said, "yeah, we've not updated them yet. that's NOT OK!!! then you honor the price on the sign - common sense. lady making coffee drinks placed her hands fully inside of our cups to write our names and drinks on them and who knows where her hands had been all morning because she sure didn't wash them before hand! it's a shame because it's a very cute place and pretty good drinks but the "other stuff" is a shame. maybe get some better management to actually do things differently here. it's empty on the weekends compared to starbucks for a reason and these are the reasons. read more

A good selection of roasted beans. A mix of aged roasted beans (greater than a few weeks), and more recent. I prefer within 7 days but that's my preference. This place is SO incredibly cool! We stopped in for a Sunday morning coffee and game before church. The space is open, bright and is a perfect chill spot. There is a game room full of games, a foosball table and other things to keep occupied while enjoying a good cup of joe. Of course the Boston Stoker coffee quality is on point as always. The set up doesn't seem great if you want to try and work from here as some of the other major chains are designed for (I won't name names) but it is conducive for relaxing and hanging out. I could see bringing our kids here in the morning, picking up a Bill's donut and just relaxing. Love it! read more

I've always loved Boston Stoker and when I lived in Dayton, I would often visit their location in the shopping center at the intersection of Whipp and 48. While driving around on a trip home to Dayton, I noticed they had moved farther south on 48 in what appears to be an old bank. I really like what they've done with the location. The main room is open and has multiple tables and a couch. There are smaller side rooms with different themes--one is a game room, where all their board games are stored and they decorated the walls with board game boards. Very cool. The best part of Boston Stoker though is the coffee. I got a decaf iced hazelnut latte and my husband got an iced white mocha. Both were sooooo delicious--some of the smoothest and creamiest lattes I have ever tasted. Service was quick and friendly. I wish I had a Boston Stoker near me--I would be there all the time! This was my first time visiting any Boston Stoker since we are fairly new to Dayton. The coffee and pastries were ok, but I could not get past how dirty the place was. It looked like it hadn't been swept in quite awhile. The tables were filthy and I didn't want to sit on the couch because of the food caked into the cushions. This location is unique in that it's inside an old bank building. The seating is comfortable and the coffee and tea selection is superb. If you are looking for cigars they have a moderate selection of those too. Standard Boston Stoker fare which offers good variety and quality. I dig this place. I've checked in a few times and shared a few photos but failed to do a review. So the grungy hippie vibe is my thing and I love it! The hippie sign makes me smile. The side rooms offer an escape for privacy and they do fill up. I like the game room with it's vintage furniture and wall of games. Fun to stare off if you are board. Okay, bad pun but you will like the room. The vaulted door from the old bank remain an is cool as well. I love their tea here and don't mind the steeping process. Don't be the person asking for it sooner or stalking the staff of you can't wait. The coffee is good as well. I like to see their specials but rarely order because I enjoy the tea. But I just said that and if you are reading this you are now annoyed I am repeating myself. The bathrooms are clean. The tables usually are as well. I think the couch is comfy and the side chairs are too if you stay in the main room. Power sources are there and you can't for hours if need be with no one hounding you. I come here often not because it's great, but because it's convenient. The coffee is okay, but what bothers me most are the unfriendly staff and the lack of cleanliness. Unfriendliness is a bit more subjective, but honestly, I have on many occasions waited for service when the place was not at all busy because employees are so busy on their phones that they don't even notice when someone is waiting. And for some reason completely unavailable to me, the manager of this location is so rude to me! I don't understand it--I'm always polite and always tip 20%, but the woman who manages this place won't even look at me when she waits on me. I've even started being extra nice and engaging to try to just get decent service, but no luck. As for the cleanliness issue, this place needs a deep scrubbing. The game rooms smell, the carpets are horribly stained, and in June I saw spilled coffee dried all over the back of the condiment station for four days straight before someone cleaned it up. The tables are never clean in the mornings when I'm there, the restrooms are gross, and in the spring & summer there are bugs in the side work room. As I said, the only reason I still go there is because it's convenient and most of the time has space for work meetings (except when the employees kids are yelling and running all over the place, which happens fairly often). read more

Let me preface this rating by saying I love the coffee. I've been a loyal customer for over 15 years. I stopped in today to get my coffee and study. I decided to order 2 custom house blend pour overs and was told by the manager Meghan that I couldn't get the Custom House in a pour over anymore because they could only do pour over coffee in 5lb bags. Some days they will make a pour over CHB other days they won't. I've spoken with another manager who said of course we can do that. My girlfriend was here last night and they made her a CHB pour over. I'm thinking I have the money you have the beans what's the problem? When I asked her about this she gave me an attitude and the standard "I don't make the rules" answer. SMH. This is like going to the Root Beer stand and being refused a root beer float because the ice cream only comes in gallon containers. It's CHB your standard coffee. I get told no more often then not when I come here to get coffee. You risk losing loyal customers telling them no on a standard item. I can go to any coffee house in Dayton and be told yes. If it costs more then charge more but don't say no to someone who wants to spend money in your establishment. Very disappointed! read more
