Friendly staff but limited varieties in distilled spirits however all the majority commercial brands are available.

Two locations and this one in Waukesha I am reviewing. Family owned and operated. If you aren't from the area than you don't realize what this liquor store offers. If you are from this area or the one in West Allis, then you probably are spoiled with what they have to offer! I rarely go in and not find what I am looking for (except at times beers and sometimes wines). That's not a knock... what place provides you with any wine you want? What sets Discount Liquor apart is the knowledge experts in wines. They were voted as 50 best wine stores in America... you have a question, ask and you shall receive. Price is good on most, cheaper than some but the variety is unsurpassed... maybe besides Total Wines. If you can't find something talk to an employee and they will help you with ordering it or find a close replacement. I have been looking for Rombauer Zin and they made a suggestion to go with Truett-Hurst Zin and we agreed, it is a close match. I love how they divide the store and categorize sections and again, you will find it difficult to find a better value and service.

Skatterbrain Dark Chocolate Banana Whiskey: Skatterbrain produces a plethora of eccentrically…read moreflavored whiskeys. Information on Skatterbrain is next to non-existent, but I can tell you that my "research" revealed all of their whiskeys share one thing in common (well maybe two if you include they're all fun flavors). That commonality is they all have an animal wearing sunglasses on the bottle. In the case of the Dark Chocolate banana Whiskey, it's appropriately a gorilla. Total Wine (where I purchased it) describes it as smooth Canadian whisky blended with the flavors of dark chocolate and banana with rich, fruity, and complex qualities. I question the reliability of that though as Skatterbrain spells it as "whiskey" on their bottle, which is typical of American and Irish Whiskey, but not Canadian "Whisky". I found the chocolate flavor to be stronger than the banana, but the two make an interesting combo. I wasn't bananas about it initially, but it grew on me, making it an acquired taste. I don't know how others drink this, but I found it worked nicely in my version of a "Dirty Monkey" (recipe below). Although I found this whiskey to my liking, I still prefer my go to banana rum for this type of drink. Doughboy approved Doughboy_Food_Reviews Doughboy Dirty Monkey: -30-50ml Dark Chocolate Banana Whiskey -5 oz milk of choice -1 tsp sugar free chocolate syrup -21g chocolate protein powder -1/4 diced large banana or 1/3 medium banana -1 tsp peanut butter -4 medium sized ice cubs -approximately 1/2 tsp xanthan gum to thicken -Blend well in a standard blender, pour and enjoy

Staff was pretty helpful. Internet is kind of spotty when you're trying to search for an item and they do have a rewards program, but you really have to consume a lot to get any benefits as it only lasts a few months and then your points fall off.

Well, here's what happened...I came in on 4/28, made my purchase using my credit card. What I have noticed and have been concerned about since going there, is the little gray, old looking credit card "device" they use, for payments. The next day I get notification from my bank that there is suspicious activity on the credit card. The amount totaled $115.98 divided by 3 establishments. Two being CHEGG *ORDER (???) The other was Barnes & Noble. A week later I came back in and I showed the wife my bank statement, showing the fraudulent activity, and tried to explain. (I personally wondered if it didn't have something to do with that old credit card payment device. Well, she barely speaks English, and all she did was point at the bank slip, saying "that is me." I could see where this was going so I said just trying to help, thank you very much, made my purchase (cash only!) and I left. The next time I came in was about two weeks later, The first thing I noticed was they had a new larger device, blue in color, that was hooked into the back of that little old gray one. The wife was there again and smiling I said something regarding the "mishap" - she smiled and pointed to this new machine and nodding her head yes. I was thinking great she understood after all! Then in a language I did not understand she calls for her husband. He came flying out from the back and immediately started yelling at me, demanding that I bring in the receipt. I said well I don't have a receipt but next time I come in I can show you the bank statement. And he just started screaming that he needed the receipt. I was shocked! I couldn't believe how he was behaving! Like a crazy person! Again I try to explain "I'm not trying to get any money back" I just wanted you to be aware. Well he would not stop yelling, meanwhile I'm handing his wife my $20 bill in hopes that she would ring me up so I can get out of there!! She seemed to not want to do that for fear of him and interrupting his tirade! She seemed to be afraid that if she didn't let him finish yelling at me, she would be next! Crazy people! The only good thing is that perhaps she understood more then I thought the first time, and I think they fixed the problem (?) and got a better more secure credit card payment device. Also, please excuse my lack of techno vocab, LOL

The store it self was unique because it's a liquor store but is has Bbq to go, pizzas, fresh rib eyes, cheeses, take and bake food, sandwiches, liquor, beer, wine, cigars etc. Unfortunately the Bbq is cooked in batches and sold out of the deli case cold that you have to reheat, not a big deal for me. I followed my rule that if you smell smoke when you walk in, I'm getting the full slab even though it's wrapped in foil and I couldn't see them. The full slab was very reasonable at $16.95 by the way. At first unwrapping I'm like dam nice bark and look how meaty the rack is, I hate that some places give you thin and bone racks so thank you for a nice rack. After heating up a third of the rack the bark came to life and was tasty, thick and sticky. The ribs were very meaty/tasty with that nice pink smoke ring but not very Smokey. The rib meat was moist and pulled clean off the bone. While there I bought a package of jalapeño meat sticks and a Czech beer from 1842, Pilsner Uequell imported it says. For a liquor store doing Bbq I'm giving them 4 stars because the ribs were good and they use meaty racks and at $16.95 for a full rack it's a good value. I would definitely get these take and bake Bbq ribs again and try other Bbq items from here.
