We heard about La Morena through Yelp's virtual event with Farm + House and decided to visit this…read morebakery in person to check it out. As we parked we noticed that OPEN light was off. It was an afternoon so we thought maybe they had closed, but when we were through shopping at the small Mexican grocery next door the sign was lit, so we went in. It's a small business and our visit was in the middle of a pandemic, so odd hours are understandable. The storefront is recognizable if you've been to other panaderias: trays and tongs for self-service, glass-doored cases with shelves of panes dulces and breads, a refrigerator with packaged slices of cake. True to their name, they also carry tortillas, chips, and bags of masa (the latter found in the refrigerated case). The pastry selection is pretty standard: conchas, donuts, filled pastries, orejas, marranitos, tri-color cookies, etc. At the counter, there's a book with images of cakes that can be special ordered. I thought we went overboard selecting pastries on our first visit, but for only $8 we got half a dozen cookies/pastries and a piece of tres leches cake. It was a steal; all were good. We've also ordered through Farm+House, which is nice since La Morena is a drive for us. This has enabled us to try more items, including their telera rolls, tortillas, and tortilla chips. It's definitely worth a visit if you are in the area. If you aren't in the area, maybe manufacture and excuse to be so you can check out these baked goods.

They have plenty of bakery items, rice, black beans, several types of meat, Yuka, plantains, tostones, green beans, coffee, pizza, beer, etc... It's a small spot, but they have it setup to where you can dine-in or take to go. They play gentle Cuban music in the background. They serve your food on nice durable plates that's set on a tray for you to take to your table. This spot sits next to McDonald's (across the street from Roses . It's in the Indian Trail Square. If you like Cuban food, you won't be disappointed. They give you plenty of food, the employees are still wearing masks and gloves, they have the tables separated from each other and the place looks organized and clean. They also have the floors marked to practice social distancing.

The rice & beans were well seasoned and the tamale was delicious. The pork was served with onions, little bit crispy but so good. The tostones were my favorite. But it was so much food, I had to save the rest for later but great that it was already packaged in a to go container. The strawberry matcha was so delicious and the strawberry tasted fresh and she said everything was in made in house. I got a slice of tiramisu, some eclairs and this raspberry dessert to go and it devoured them when I home. They were very good and the raspberry dessert tasted fresh and had real raspberry filling.
