Wanted to stop by & pick up macaroons for my wife's birthday. The address listed is NOT a store so I had to go somewhere else.

Cute little candy shop in Southern Indiana [New Albany IN]…read more Located in the historic part of downtown of New Albany this candy store specialized in handcrafted French-style macarons and chocolates. The storefront is the cutest with pink motif colors... pink awning, pink doors, pink signage. Inside is nostalgic. They have pre-packaged candy as well as candy by the pound. Mix & match chocolates from the Sugar Bar and choose from a large or small candy cup. I chose the small candy cup for $10 and had it filled with milk chocolate peanuts and milk chocolate raisins. Friendly customer service. When someone exits the shop they bid you with a "have a sweet day." Family owned and operated. Instagram: @newalbanysugarshoppe Review #3878

Look for the sidewalk signs to lead the way. And despite it's small size it is absolutely chock full of sweet goodness! I saw several candy brands that made me feel nostalgic. Macarons are a signature -- definitely check out the large case of many flavors. And it boasts a case of so many chocolatey treats. I ended up getting some chocolate dipped Oreos, sprinkled in edible glitter, for my kids, who went nuts over them. (I maybe snuck a bite too!) I love taking time to explore New Albany, to see what new-to-me shops I can discover. The New Albany Sugar Shoppe was a highlight during my recent trip across the river.

Got the lox on a sourdough bagel. The bagel itself is big and pretty doughy, which I liked. They load it up with sweet pickled onions.... honestly too much, it kind of buries the salmon. And there's not a ton of lox to begin with. This isn't a loaded NYC lox bagel, you get one slice a side. What's there was a bit not sure about how they cure the salmon here. Still good overall, just not balanced. $14 feels a bit high for what you get. Tried the ham and cheddar quiche too. Nice and creamy, good flavor, slight smokiness. Solid, but really small for $10. Like a tiny slice of pie. Comes with a small fruit bowl but come on. The spanakopita croissant was probably the best thing I had. Good size, flaky, buttery, nice spinach and cheese flavor. Definitely should be warmed up for max yum factor, but for $5.50 it's a great deal. Overall, ok spot. Brunch spots know they can just charge anything and people keep going.

The cortado was also strong, super hot, and perfectly balanced with steamed milk. The barista was super sweet, and made me feel incredibly welcome (not always a feature of NYC dining). While it's relatively small inside, it's quaint and actually has a decent amount of seating. There was a steady stream of customers flowing through during the handful of hours I was there, and everyone always had somewhere to sit. I was here on a random Thursday, but I could see this place being mobbed on the weekends so I'd get here early to get your pick of treats and seating. The pastries looked off the hook but I restrained myself from participating this visit due to the numerous carbs consumed in the giant fresh-baked everything bagel. But I shall return, and I SHALL eat the sweets.

It's always so well organized and clean. After Saturday morning yoga in Paristown we were looking for a place to grab a coffee or a morning beverage. I suggested The Breeze and off we went. Parking was amazing and we were both able to get parking spots right out front. The barista was incredible. I was already having a great day but her energy just made it that much better. She was very kind, happy, and friendly. My friend got a Bloody Mary (pro tip: they are only $5 all day on Saturday) and I ordered a mimosa as well as a birthday cake and pistachio macarons. We sat out on the back patio and the barista brought us our drinks shortly after. I hadn't had the opportunity to sit out on the back patio prior to yesterday but I loved it. Various types of seats from tables that could sit 2 people to 4 people. There was even a group of people setting up for what seemed like a birthday party with all types of bottles of wine and food spreads. It would def be a great option to look into if you ever are wanting to host a large party for an event.

The baked goods here are irresistible. I'm obsessed with their cheese danish (honestly, you can't go wrong with any of their pastries). And don't get me started on their biscuits and gravy--pure comfort food that hits the spot every time. Leavin Bakery is more than just great food... the atmosphere makes you want to stay a little longer. It's super cozy, always friendly, and the perfect neighborhood hangout. I can't wait to come back and explore their lunch menu--if it's anything like breakfast, I know it's going to be amazing.

The bakery and bread items were plentiful and everything looked delicious. The cinnamon roll was our favorite and it will be the reason to return. I also loved my lemon lavender scone, eating half there and taking home the other half for dessert. I wasn't as happy about the sides from the grill. My eggs were extremely peppery and I gave up eating them because every bite was overwhelming. My two slices of bacon were hard and pitiful, definitely not worth the cost. My friend noted her sausage as "interesting". The space has seating at the grill and two rooms, with one being crowded because of the incoming crowd. However, we were so happy to be there that we didn't mind the visitors and no one was rude to us as they walked along the ordering counter. The owners are a husband and wife team. She was friendly and talkative and we loved her the pride she took of the shop. We left with more pastries and bread. Such great selection and pricing. This is a reason to promote this shop. I've paid more for less quality but now know to come to Leaven Bakery.

It was busy at lunchtime on a Friday. The cafe is so cute! Charmingly decorated. We ordered at the counter, took a table number and found our seats. One note about that: being a large person, the seats made me a little nervous. Next time i would opt for booth seating which looked a bit more substantial. Our entrees were brought out before our appetizers, but they looked so good I didn't even care. Couldn't wait to dig in. I had Pho Ga chicken noodle soup. It was served nice and hot with a bowl of raw herbs and add ins. Sprouts, fresh jalapeño slices, a lemon wedge etc. it was so delicious with complex flavors. I finished every drop. Appetizer was pork on a stick. Tender inside, crisp and sweet outside. Two skewers was plenty for us. My daughter had the lemon grass chicken with a fried egg. It looked great, she said it was very good. Our food was appealingly presented, and service was good. We each drank water and our bill was over $36. Not cheap for lunch but not outrageous and quality and portion sizes justified the cost. We will definitely return to try more menu items.
