We stopped by this market after shopping nearby for a few hours and on our way to the airport for a delayed, late night flight. We needed to get something fresh for dinner at the airport and I saw this while searching the area. We were helped by friendly staff at the deli counter who made us a hummus wrap and turkey sandwich to go and I got a pasta salad from their fresh deli salads. I love local markets like this with fresh items and a deli when I travel and I'm so glad we found this. They had my baby's favorite snacks in the toddler section and some delicious grab and go drinks in the cooler as well. They won't have all the things since it's a smaller, boutique market, but quality is here. read more

Bow Street does it again! I seem to have an uncanny ability to find tastings - and when I thought I was making a quick stop to get two avocados there was a tasting happening! It was great - the woman from the distributor was perfect. What made it extra memorable was a calligrapher who added messages to each bottle purchased. So yes, instead of 2$ for avocados I have a bottle of 10 year old Basil Hayden bourbon & bottle of tequila aged in a bourbon barrel. read more

This rating is specific to the Deli which I've NEVER had a good experience with. Only reason we return is for Boars Head meats which can't be found anywhere else. For starters, they won't permit you to pre-order over the phone and direct you to the app, which also die NOT have an option to order deli meats. When you arrive at the deli, there are typically 4-6 employees standing behind the counter and not one of them will bother to acknowledge your presence. Certainly never any niceties. Instead, you'll find them shooting the shit tucked in the corner snacking on deli meats and cheeses. After multiple minutes waiting, One will come and ask if you've been helped because it's not obvious enough that I'm standing there alone, staring at them and no one has lifted a finger. This deli has to be the penalty box for Bow St workers because they all act like they're in a cage waiting to be let out and want absolutely NOTHING to do with patrons. They'll literally let meat roll off the slicer into a bag that ultimately falls apart when trying to remove a slice. Today, I got home to find a half pound of turkey ends. These guys clearly intentionally try to ruin days. Owners, PAY ATTENTION. This is on YOU. read more

Sneaky Sneaky Bow Street Market....Hannaford? :) Do what you do Bow Street, because I love this market. A "hidden gem" in Freeport meaning that it is not a tacky ugly box store. It feels like a cute neighborhood market with the efficiencies of a big business. The only "negatives" I have about this place is the tight parking lot during the tourist seasons. It is a smaller lot and when big vehicles or vehicles with things in tow, make this lot a bit treacherous to walk or drive in. Walk swiftly and look carefully. Don't forget your reusable bags. They do have bags for you, but I have seen some employees flash a look on their face when people don't bring them. :) Ok, back to the reason why I said, "Hannaford" is because they do carry the Inspirations line that Hannaford carries. But that's where the comparison to Hannaford stops. The LOCAL selection of products; produce, pre-made foods (i.e. pasta from Bruno's!!), snacks, baked goods, meats and cheeses and craft beers. So many things to LOVE about this market. I uploaded some of my favorites that I buy from this store. The staff at the meat counter so very nice. The cashiers are very nice as well. I wish I lived closer to this market, but distance won't keep me away. Take a neighborhood grocery store, a local butcher, a gourmet food shop, takeout counter and a fancy wine/beer/spirits purveyor and smash them all into one building and you have Bow Street Market. There really is something for everyone here. The staff is friendly and helpful - especially a couple of the cashiers who are ridiculously friendly (in a good way)!! My only criticism is that the space is small. During busy times, the parking lot is a bit hectic and some of the aisles are so tight that only one cart at a time can pass. Also, the prices are quite high. I understand that quality products are going to be a bit higher but the cost prohibits me from making regular visits here. Nevertheless, you need to check this place out even if it is just for special occasions. read more

Though Bow Street Market is a Hannaford Supermarket affiliated store, it's independent and unique enough to have many of its own products. And though we've enjoyed many of their outstanding meat cuts, a variety of local items they carry and their full liquor selections, I've come to Yelp today to sing the praises of their store made smoked salmon salad with salmon supplied from Maine's Duck Trap fisheries. This salad is first of all salmony, appropriately salty, chunky, and filled with tiny bits of red onion and celery and just enough mayo to hold it together. What a great find at this fun to shop at market. I eat it on Triscuits, corn chips, baby carrots, or to be embarrassingly honest...from my finger. I love it when I discover something previously unknown to me. And though I have been eating smoked salmon, lox/Nova since early childhood, I am so happy to have recently found this. Great job Bow Street Market! It's sold in various sized small tubs at $10.99/lb. and well worth this price. read more

I stayed in Freeport for a month in 2011, and frequented this establishment for various groceries and alcohol. The prices are moderate, and comparable to other independent grocers, like Royal River on the other side of Freeport. Their meat case is very nice and fresh, as is the produce section. They also have a small section dedicated to Gluten Free products. There wasn't a massive frozen foods (positive), or a bulk foods section (negative). They did have a rather expansive wine, beer and liquor selection. I highly recommend supporting this place (over Shaw's for example). I would have given this place 5 stars if the prices were lower, if they had a nice bulk foods section, if they had a larger gluten free selection (like Royal River Market), and if they didn't have a redbox or lottery machines. read more

I stumbled upon the Bow Street Market while on a side street attempting to get away from the Freeport traffic and what a nice find! It has a huge parking lot so while quite busy it wasn't hard to find a parking spot. This store reminded me of the Vermont coops. Really great fresh produce and veggie section where things are more than decently priced. Great selection of meats (which I didn't pick up as I wasn't due home for awhile and I didn't want to drive around with meat in the car/heat but I saw some great looking cuts of meats). There's a large frozen food and dairy section and, of course, a bakery section and home made foods section. My only complaint was how crowded the bakery and take away food area was - displays were super close together and it was hard to navigate with many customers trying to look at the same items. I grabbed chicken nuggets and got away as I was getting anxious from the crush of people but it certainly looked like they had a lot more take away hot foods to offer. I also grabbed two Whoopie pies that were very nice from a local seller but ran into the same problem trying to look at the bakery items. I'd return at non-peak hours next time. I was super pleased with the price - I got veggies, nuggets and even some cute Whoopie pies all for under $20. Quality of all my items was fantastic. I'll definitely stop in again! read more

The folks at Bow Street market have a nice store. They have some awesome stuff for breakfast and a great beer selection. Now that you know the good, here's the not so good: Customer service is lousy. The store manager, Jim, sets a horrible example for his employees. Arguing with a customer will never get you anywhere, Jim. When someone comes to you with constructive criticism, it's best to take it for what it is. If you don't know the facts, do your homework. Your employees need to be shown how to take care of customers. A Bow Street employee scanned my ID without permission. I questioned why, and was met with an argumentative rebuttal. I emailed the store and received more of the same. Store management quoted Real ID laws. The truth is, it is illegal to scan someone's ID without their consent. Take your business elsewhere. You'll find better service and a place that isn't keen on compromising your privacy. read more

I love coming to Bow Street whenever I'm in Freeport. I don't even bother with the left side of the store as it's just a glorified Hannaford with much less selection, but I can understand why it's nice for people who live in town to have. They have a beautiful case when you first walk in that's filled with any kind of meat or seafood you could want. I've gotten their stuffed mushrooms on many occasions and they are so so good. We've recently discovered their chicken kale meatballs, that while are pricey ($10.99 per lb!) are really good and we treat ourselves every once in awhile to them. I've also indulged on their pizza, Thai noodle salad and most recently their blueberry biscuits which are my new obsession. I could eat one every. single. day. And they're only $1.00! They often have free samples of cheese, salami and such, and I've even had wine or champagne tastings happening while I've been there. If you're in Freeport for any reason at all, I recommend stopping by to see what delicious items you may discover! read more

It only took me 2-years to find a place that provides this service (which is quite/very surprsing) due to the large amount / high volume of booshie stuff in Portland... why no boars head?!?... Bow Street Market is this large renovated-farmhouse-looking structure set almost on it's own campus-like area with beautiful landscaping, plenty of areas to sit outside and park, and - did I see recently? - a gazebo and garden space just a minute or so walk nearby. It's got plenty of options to choose from regardless if you're poking around in produce, looking for a specialty cheese, or needing something fast by way of a vegan pre-packaged dinner in the frozen aisle from any of the well-known brands that make that sort of thing. I appreciate how clean and spacious it is. I love the coffee bar area - there really are plenty of options to choose from (including the limited edition/seasonal Green Mountain's "Island Coconut"; YUM). And the wine/liquor/beer area? Absolutely fabulous! On their website they tout it as "one of Maine's most varied and expertly curated selections", and they're definitely on the mark with that assessment! Love the walk-in beer cooler. And love, love, love the climate controlled wine cellar! However... the service doesn't wow me. The last time I was there, the cashier was a little rude and the rest of the staff seemed to largely ignore us (tried asking questions, but every time I approached employees, they seemed to scatter). And I don't know why but I always assume the prices are going to be lower than they actually are... maybe because Bow Street prides itself on being this uber local grocer and I associate that with being "mom and pop"-like (when it's not). The last time we went, nothing we got - a kombucha, a specialty water, and two bags of chips - was cheaper than what we would have paid at Whole Foods for example. I guess the bottom line is... I wouldn't necessarily come out of my way from Portland to stop here nor would I make it a destination whilst in Freeport; however, if I was in the area and a) needed something (like sandwiches to take hiking Wolfe's Neck), or b) they were doing a complimentary wine tasting, I would for sure swing by! read more

Bow Street Market is one of my favorite groceries stores in the history of the world. It's as if Hannaford & Trader Joe's had a child. I truly love this store, it has everything you need in a grocery store and so much more. You can order a sandwich, pizza or catering from their app and fly in & get it and head out. They have a great Turkey Baguette sandwich and their Caprese Baguette is heavenly. The soup bar is amazing offering at least 4 soups to pick any day of the week. They also offer Frosty's Donuts and a lot of Hannaford brand products. They just recently added the BOW2GO to order your groceries online and then pickup at the store. read more

I don't like Bow Street Market. They have a great vegetarian sandwich called the Grilled Veggie Bomb that tastes exactly like a Philly cheese steak: "The steakless steak bomb is loaded with grilled mushrooms, onions and peppers topped with smoked gouda and provolone cheeses, served on a fresh ciabatta roll. $6.49" It's the only reason I would ever come back here. Their deli salads lack freshness and flavor. The pasta salad we had tasted like nothing. The Spicy Veggie roll which sounds exciting is anything but: "Avocado, cucumbers and crunchy daikon slaw topped with our house-made spicy mayo and served on a griddled bulkie roll. $6.49." The produce had seen better days (many days ago) and the oranges that I bought were rotten inside when I brought them home. Their selection and prices aren't great either. For an "artisan market" in a yuppy town such as Freeport, I would expect very high-quality food and selections for the prices, unfortunately that's not what I found. read more

This place was great! There aren't a whole lot of chains in the Freeport, Maine area which is a wonderful thing but when your out of town & aren't sure where to go this was a very nice find. They had a great bakery area with delicious freshly made items & my favorite was the coffee area. They had at least 10 different coffee selections already brewed for coffee on the go, I of course got the blueberry flavored coffee since I was in Maine of course :-) The staff was very friendly & my favorite part was the specialty items you can find here that you probably couldn't find outside the state... Like blueberry soda :-D My only con was the prices were a little high. read more

Bow Street Market is my go to spot for fresh meat, pre-made meals and deli items. The meat, seafood and poultry selection are super high quality and there's a great variety. They have a hot bar usually stocked with chicken wings, ribs, mashed potatoes and Mac and cheese. The salad bar is fully stocked with tons of veggies and a variety of proteins. My only complaint about Bow Street is the produce isn't always super fresh and the dry goods are over priced. read more

I just moved from Seattle and was looking forward to this great store for the meat and wine selection. I purchased a "Carol Shelton" red wine on the recommendation of the Wine Stewart. I was buying this for a nice dinner with lamb chops. The wine ended up being corked. I brought the wine back and albeit I didn't have my receipt but the store manager abruptly dismissed me and would not return my money. This was extremely disappointing to me. This is not the service I expected after seeing the other yelp reviews. My recommendation for other shoppers is to avoid the wine department all together and I will not be returning at all. I saved a lot of money by foregoing some of the mediocre and expensive restaurants in Freeport, ME and instead picked up some very healthy food at Bow Street Market. The deli booth can get quite busy during lunch time so I would recommend phoning in your order ahead of time so you don't have to hang out and wait for your sandwich to be made. read more

A little disappointed with the take out food the past three weeks. The pizza used to be so good but the last three weeks they barely put any meat on the pizza and it just is missing flavor. The best and most personal small grocery store. Great selection of locally raises meat from Pineland Farms, Bell & Evans chicken and their homemade sausage, stuffed peppers and more. Wine section is huge. Sometimes there are wine tastings. Nice choices of breads and rolls. They make their own chicken salad, potato salad, and much more. Along with a salad bar and hot side dish bar, there is a stir fry bar. Put your selections in a box and they will stir fry it for you to enjoy. There's a little of everything here! read more

Big fan of Bow Street. I think this might be one of the better niche meat & beer stores around. They have the best tasting food. The blueberry & maple sausage is the best. I make pilgrimages to come and get their food. They have local food offerings and everything seems to be Maine oriented. They have a large beer & wine selection and everything is priced well. I bought 3 lbs of sausages and chicken for $15-20 or so and was able to comfortable feed 4 people. The food is always marinated perfectly, easy to grill, and is fresh. read more

This place is surprisingly great in the capacity of camping far away from home. With Bow Street Market right down the road, you feel like you're never really far from what you need. Especially if you enjoy a few drinks. This Market has beautiful looking fresh cuts of meat at the deli, vegetables and all the ingredients you might need. They have bags of ice and chopped firewood. But their alcohol selection really takes the cake. I've been to quite a few liquor stores and still never seen so many options of bitters, liquors, from both far wide and they even have a section of local Maine made rums, vodkas and gins. The manager was just standing in the middle of the store with another employe both shoveling food into their mouths with their hands while working. They were barbecue chips. I think cape cod. This is 3/14/20 and we are in a global pandemic. Touching your mouth then the food your stocking !!! I've been a store associate before and I know it can suck being on floor for a while but every standard of safety for our community was disregarded!!!!
