While we were still playing mini golf, a staff member came to find us and let us know a laser tag game was starting soon and suggested we join. If we had waited until we finished golfing, it probably would have just been our two boys in the arena. Instead they got to play with a full group, which made the game way more exciting. That extra level of customer service made a big difference. The kids had an absolute blast and we really appreciated the staff looking out for us like that. Definitely recommend if you're looking for a fun outing with kids.

Timeline Arcade is a retro arcade in downtown York. Timeline is like most current retro arcades, you pay X amount per hour for unlimited plays, and you pay when entering. The entry fee for an hour is very reasonable. The arcade is reasonably large and is spread across two rooms. Selection includes retro arcade machines, pinball machines, consoles, and other gaming items. Timeline does get newer Stern pinball machines like JAWS and Star Wars: Fall of the Empire, on top of a handful of older machines like Spy Hunter and White Water. The selection of general arcade machines is good, with machines like Spy Hunter, Coors Light Bowling, Rampage World Tour, and Revolution X catching my interest. Several TV's and couches are available for console gaming. Timeline has some problems however. They need to more clearly define the BYOB policy in its public facing information. From experience, BYOB here means "mancan/tallboy" sized drinks IE larger cans. The bigger issue is the machine maintenance problems which have gotten worse over time. I've run into several issues with machines not working, and during my last visit a bunch in the back room were out of order. Some of the machines at Timeline are clearly B or C grade machines, and simply do not play as better examples would. Is Timeline still worth a visit? Yes. It remains one of the better retro arcades in Pennsylvania, but there are better out there including in surrounding states like New Jersey.

It's part game, part holiday movie, and all-around magical. From their website: "Deck the Holograms is a family-friendly augmented reality adventure that transports you inside a life-sized holographic North Pole...an unforgettable shared experience for families, friends, and believers of all ages." Yup, it's exactly that -- and it totally lives up to the hype. We did the experience as a pair, and it was so much fun together. Plus, we got 3 hours of free arcade play included with our tickets for $34.99 per person, which honestly feels like a steal. We even spent a little time in the arcade before jumping into the AR adventure, which was a nice warm-up. The story itself was surprisingly thoughtful -- it made us reflect on being present in the moment during the holidays instead of getting lost in our phones. It's playful, immersive, and yes, totally enjoyable for 40+ year olds too. Plenty of parking, plenty of space to move around, and the whole experience is cozy and warm inside -- perfect for a chilly December night. We booked our tickets from the parking lot on the last Friday before Christmas and had no trouble snagging the 8pm time slot we wanted. Overall, it's a low-impact, warm, immersive, and joyful way to celebrate the season. When one person is covering the food bar and the main register, issues are inevitable. While not everyone may require an attendant for assistance, I can understand how frustrating it can be to wait for help to retrieve a prize in a claw machine, when the same person is manning the register, and pulling pizzas and wings in the kitchen. This place is suppose to serve Japanese snacks, however only one or two options based on the menu board were offered last visit beyond the burgers, pizza, fries, and wings. No ramen. Staffing remains to be a challenge. I was impressed to see the man cleaning tables is always spot on and very quick. Access here is also weird, the direct main entrance from the mall is blocked each time I've visited. Alternative way to get in/out is past the restaurants and down the escalator (Fairmount Ave and Towson Gate Drive entrance side). It would be an absolute cluster if there was an emergency in this place, blocking a major entrance during operational hours is concerning regardless of the day.

Both birthday parties we attended came with shoe rentals, two hour bowling, a table setup and pizza. What's good? The bowling. My kids enjoyed their time learning how to bowl. The lanes held up well, no issues with ball returns or pin setup while they bowled. Bumpers were setup and taken down quickly if needed. The workers. They were attentive to the parties and very helpful. The fries. During the second party visit my kids were hungry before the pizza was served. We got a large fry. I thought the fries were pretty good. What's meh? The pizza crust. I'm a total crust guy and the crust they use isn't great. Mad props that they make their own pizzas (or at least put the cheese and pepperoni on themselves. The fry cooking time. They took a while from when they were ordered to when they were done. They were served hot but the wait seemed longer than it should. Can't imagine what it is like if a bunch of people are ordering food.
