Dr. Bascelli has the BEST bedside manner, encouraging, uplifting, "WE" can conquer this together and "YOU" can do it attitude! Her office is very clean and the atmosphere is very welcoming! Her staff is VERY professional, friendly, and welcoming to all genders, nationalities, personalities, etc. It's very easy to schedule/cancel/reschedule appointments and you are seen in a timely manner of your appointment time! No matter how you have felt at other addiction facilities you will feel like you have been to this practice many times with comfort and ease to get the supportive help that you most need. The patient rooms are very clean, with comfortable small couches to help you relax and be more yourself in an engaged, motivational and uplifting office visit. Also, they offer individual and group therapy sessions and, probably, other services that I don't know about. I can not yet comment on after-care/out-patient treatment plans, but they are taking care of my friend very well so far - he is a dual diagnosis and in for 14 days an counting. Receptionists and counselors were all very friendly , pleasant and knowledgeable. We need to take the shame and stigma away from mental health issues - many of which cause "self-medication" with substances.

This was hands down one of the worst experiences of my life. The abject harm and torture I experienced at the hands of the faculty and staff and patients) cannot be simply summed up into words to give a cohesive, accurate review of this facility. (although the words abusive, cult, and scam certainly come to mind) In the interest of saving time and being as concise as possible, here are some bullet points of what I experienced during my stay. -Was told I would be able to stay in contact with my family, as soon as they dropped me off and left, the staff informed there was to be a two week black out period where I would be unable to make any contact with my family. (even though all the calls are monitored anyway). I got to call them maybe 2 times for a grand total of maybe 15 minutes over my entire stay. Any violation of "rules" (which was inherently very subjective, vague, and up to the discretion of the staff) would be met with harsh punishment such as; not being able to contact family, being forced to stay in your room, loss of any recreational time, and minimum to no social contact for days. -Was frequently threated with juvenile detention centers and military camp if I tried to leave the campus (which I know now is a total load of BS as I was there as a minor voluntarily essentially) -Ran away with another patient who was 19 at the time, as we had had enough of the treatment at the facility. Our parents were not notified, (I actually called my mine from a gas station phone) the cops were not alerted. We stopped to ask two very drunk women on a porch if we could bum a cigarette, who then revealed that one of them had "graduated" from Caron just a month ago. At this time a third stranger, a man, showed up, and we ended up being forced into a car by these 3 strangers, (one of which had a handgun that she ever so politely waved in our face and told us not to try anything). They then returned us to the facility which we were then ordered to disrobe entirely and were forced to do jumping jacks and other physically demanding activities in the nude while staff watched. (again im 16 here) I then promptly lost all "privileges" (meaning essentially solitary confinement in your room) NO cops, NO information to the parents, NO reporting of how we were held at gunpoint or report on these strangers who effectively kidnapped us. -Was subject to physical abuse and sexual abuse by patients. (rather not elaborate on the latter, however I got jumped a few times, had things planted in my room, had my room broken into and things stolen etc) -Spent up to days at a time locked in my room. - Forced to attend a "non-denominational" service every Sunday that would have some patients parents in attendance for what they would call educational weekend (this happened once a patient was there for 3 weeks), which was just a bunch of lies and manipulation tactics aiming at keeping patients longer and breaking bonds and trust in family. If you did not attend the service, even if it was not your educational weekend, you would lose all "privileges". -Made you stand up in front of your parents/ loved ones and tell them every single bad thing you've ever done in your entire life with other family members of other patients in the room, for the purpose of degradation. -Discontinued my SSRI for anxiety and depression with out consultation. Discontinued my ADHD medication with out consultation (more understandable as its a controlled substance, but still should've consulted). They even made a huge deal about me staying on my allergy medicine which is just Claritin. -Forced to go to some off campus meetings with some really creepy people in some less than favorable locations, where we were encouraged to talk and connect with these random strangers/adults. We would be dropped off with one supervisor to 8-10 patients. Im not usually one to judge, but this was extremely intimidating to a kid, especially considering everything else that was transpiring. There's more, but that's all I can handle writing at the moment. Even at 30 years old, over 13 years later, I still hate this place more than literally anything. I have been in therapy for years trying to deal with some of the stuff I experienced here. This is not a place to get better, this is a place to bleed your family financially dry and give you long lasting psychological trauma.

CASA was a fun organization to be a part of mainly due to Dr. F's enthusiasm, passion and new ideas on making students aware of substance abuse. I was a peer educator and Dr. F trained us to do workshops, intervention and reach out to students at TU on the issues of drug and alcohol use. He was one of the most accessible and easy going professors that I knew. I often found myself talking to Dr. F about things I was going through because he was so easy to talk to. Respectively, I could tell he wasn't a stranger to the crazy college lifestyle (partying, relationship woes, family struggles, work balance, etc) I was living and he never made me feel "less than" or like he didn't get it. Dr. F always just got it. I think Dr. F would be a great therapist for anyone wanting to explore the role addiction serves in his or her world. If you're ready to make a change, Dr. Frank is who I would suggest.

Ironically, the students working there seemed more compassionate, open, and willing to actually listen. Overall, I left feeling unheard and disappointed. Only the CT scan revealed the extent of my atypical stroke. The doctors pumped 3% saline directly to the site of the infarction for 10 days. Not .3%... 3%. The marvelous Rehab therapists are the best; the acute care doctor that treated me is pretty great too. Therapists have a continuous stream of pitiful stroke patients... but manage to make every patient feel like they are the first stroke patient that they have ever treated. Thousands of people have been in Rehab before me, many with more knowledge about the methods and value of therapy than I will ever have... but the therapists never let on. God bless them. Without their persistent encouragement I wouldn't be typing this, walking to the kitchen for a drink of water and sitting in the bath tub like a Christian to take a bath. Without the antiedema therapy I'd have a hole in the back of my head or I'd be gone.
