This is our favorite place to stop for meals on our road trips from MN to FL and we literally look forward to dining here on our trips. Super friendly, fast service, lots of menu options, HUGE portions, delicious food, great prices. What else can you ask for?! People who suggest remodeling: are you for real, seriously? Yes it is not modern or fancy but that is part of the charm and honestly you can't expect to pay these prices for this much food if this place pays thousands of dollars for a remodel. I would give 0 stars. My son and I were completely ignored. Absolutely horrible. After a few minutes sitting at a table, ignored. A couple came in and we're immediately greeted and given menus. Summary: An okay diner with an extensive menu of Midwestern comfort foods served in generous portions at fair prices. Cash or check only here: Credit and debit cards not accepted. BGD's meals are a lot of food at very fair prices. In the big city expect to pay a third more for the same amount this diner gives you. However, the food is acceptable but not outstanding. And the dining room is worn and tired looking: My broiled catfish filets were okay. I think catfish is flavorful enough and needs little else. The melted butter atop the two filets detracted from the taste, while the uneven dusting of paprika didn't harm but also didn't help the flavor. A side of sweet corn was chewy but creamy cole slaw was crunchy and not overdone with sauce. I declined both an included potato and ice cream. Soup or salad was part of the meal, as were rolls. (See what I mean about a generous portion?) The chicken noodle soup would be better described as noodles in chicken broth: I found one small piece of chicken, though the broth had some chicken shreds. Did I say BGD offers up a lot of food? As always my reviews are based on my experience as it should always be. My hometown restaurants choices are few and far between. This place has changed hands many times over the years. I personally haven't been in the building since my 8th grade graduation dinner. I honestly wasn't expecting much and was pleasantly surprised. Met some family for dinner and everyone had a nice dinner. Nice small dinner salad and only in the Midwest will you find a pork tenderloin sandwich, Hand breaded btw. My wife had a breakfast quesadilla which filled the plate. Really tasty jumbo shrimp. My only complaint is the kitchen cooking exhaust is huge importance otherwise you walk out smelling like a French fry. Otherwise a nice meal with good service read more

If I remember correctly this place only takes cash. Here there aren't many choices to pick from unless you want to go the fast food route but I like local restaurants and this one was just okay. Tried several items but I think they're burgers were the best choice I made. Roast beef sandwich was okay but the gravy was what threw me off. It is what it is though. read more

Stopped here driving back from Mark Twain State Park. I love to support local businesses, so I stopped here over a fast food restaurant (note this was a Sunday, so every other place in town was closed), but would not recommend doing so. Everything we ate was definitely pre-packaged and tasted that way. Basically paid for over-priced Sysco boxed food. It was also pretty dumpy inside - and I know dive-diners are not always the nicest, but hubby said there were multiple hand-washing signs in the men's bathroom, and it is pretty unsettling to think about why the all-male kitchen staff would need so many signs... We had lunch here, breakfast might be better since you can't just put that stuff in a microwave or steam table. But also know that they do not take card!!! read more

I think the food is great and the amount they give you is enough for two people. They are generous portions and you are offered a go carton without asking. This is the place to go if you are hunger-- but be careful not to over eat. I also found the service to be very good and no long waits to get your food. Went with friends on the way back home. Love local dinners, and this was definitely local. Food was plentiful and they offered unique menu items. However that was were it stopped. There was minimal, barely to be seen meat in my Gyro omelet. The sausage gravy again limited sausage. And not sure the difference between hash browns and American fries. It looked the same but just the size of the potato slices. It was ok but that's about it. read more
