Frumpy Joe's has been a favorite of mine since I was a kid. It's a small-town hole in the wall, but definitely a treasure! Great for lunch, dinner. They have room for larger family dining. I've always loved their salads and wings--so good. They're temporarily closed right now but just got picked up by a new owner, and I can't wait to see what's in store when they reopen. We've been wanting to try this place out for a while and we finally did tonight and we will definitely be back! The service was fast and friendly and the food was delicious. I had the catfish with green beans and macaroni and cheese and everything was perfect. The green beans were fresh and Sautéed with a lot of onion just the way I love it. Friendly service, made from scratch potato chips and dishes. It was a great early dinner stop between St. Louis and Columbia MO.

It's been a while since we have eaten here and decided to stop by tonight. Service was good and food was delicious, it being nonsmoking was also a plus. I had the pork loin sandwich, it was amazing. My wife had a burger and she was also pleased with it. Recommend you give it a try. read more

I really wanted to like this place, but the experience was disappointing from start to finish. The staff seemed uninterested and unhelpful -- it felt like I was more of an inconvenience than a customer. Service was slow, and when l asked a simple question, I got a dismissive response. On top of that, the bathroom was in awful condition: dirty, poorly stocked, and clearly not maintained throughout the day. It left a bad impression and made the whole visit feel careless. I don't usually leave negative reviews, but both the service and cleanliness here were far below what l'd expect. The food was good. Service was great! I also really appreciate that most of their items are made from scratch. My husband got the catfish and I got a buffalo chicken breast sandwich. Best Turkey Club sandwich ever! It was done and made to order in less than 5 minutes and it was delicious! Their homemade chips were the best ever, too! I may stop by again on my way home! Not very big as space but with plenty of tables and also plenty of high chairs by the bar area. Ample selection of beverages and their menu has everything for everyone. They prep and make a lot of the food themselves, not the frozen stuff you get everywhere. A random stop but so glad I got to experience Frumpy Joe's. -The beef steak was delicious and such a generous portion, topped with mushrooms and onions. Came with two sides which I also enjoyed. - Cobb Salad: You know me and my salads, had to get one as a side. But this portion was also very generous. Possibly shareable depending on your hunger level. They have a very large space, but we were one of 5 groups in there so felt amply spaced out in our booth. Chatted a bit with the waitress, such a nice lady. Hope we can come again soon. read more

Sorry, consumed our meals before thinking about a picture. It was that good! Wonderful find on our trip through Missouri. Local restaurant serving everything homemade. We both opted for the special, smoked pork shoulder steak with a side of baked beans and slaw. Hubby chose creamed and I had the vinegar slaw, both were excellent but my opinion, I chose the best. Pork shoulder was a generous slab of steak with the perfect smoke flavor topped with the best house made bbq sauce. As if that wasn't enough, we chose to have one of the many dessert options. Carrot cake with homemade cream cheese icing. The owner served us and kept our drinks filled. Was so enjoyable to hear her vision for the restaurant after purchasing it. Happened to stop in on fried chicken day, and, oh man, am I glad we did! It was deliciously light and crisp and the accompanying green beans were fresh and oh-so-tasty! This is what small town cafes in America are all about. Quality, well presented food with incredibly friendly service. I had the signature bacon cheeseburger on toasted sourdough bread with onion rings and both were excellent. Easy to miss if you're not paying attention (and trust me, you don't want to miss it!) - no big sign out front, but it's right across from the Jonesburg Historical Museum and just off highway 70. This is an extremely clean and well maintained diner with a full bar. They also have plenty of tvs if you need to catch a game. I noticed a brisk carry out business while we were there for lunch. I had the mushroom Swiss burger special with sweet potato fries and hubby had the Frumpy burger with seasoned curly fries. I thought my burger was fantastic! Juicy, done perfectly and well seasoned with lots of real mushrooms! The portion size was good and you got plenty of fries with your meal. I liked the sweet potato fries, but probably liked the seasoned curly fries just a little bit better. No worries though because both were good! Small town Bar and Restaurant. I ordered the special which was a sirloin steak choice of potato, vegetable, and cornbread for $10.95. The steak was delicious, baked potato was adequate, green beans and cornbread we're good also. The waitress / barmaid was very attentive to my needs and kept my drinks filled. A quick stop off of Interstate 70 for a good meal and you're back on the road. The only downside is they allow smoking inside but it was tolerable. read more
