I came down from Winthrop a small suburb east of Boston (yes there's an east of Boston ) to visit my side of the family near cape cod. I heard a lot about this Bowser's Basement from Facebook and YouTube . Me My Wife Danielle and our Twins Lilly & Luke love the Super Mario Franchise. And me and my wife love playing video games together. (Eat your heart out rest of the male population you know how hard it is to land a wife that does gaming) So this place seems like the perfect place to stop by and see what cool stuff they got . I brought in a few WIi games to trade in and got a fair trade in of $50 credit for them . My Daughter Lilly loves the Princesses and immediately asked politely for a Cat Power up Princess Peach plush . One of my Son Luke's first words was "Bowser" Well we already have two Different Bowser plushes so I got him One of the Koopa kids . Fair price for how rare they are . I saw the YouTube video of the guy looking for a Morton Koopa junior plush only to see they had one and it was not for sale. Well they restocked Morton so I got one My wife bought me a very nice and glossy looking Super Mario bros 3 sign for me to hang in "The Dave Cave" All in All it was an excellent experience with a super chill and patient clerk. This retro shop is a decent one. They have some excellent inventory, with a great selection of games across all systems. Aesthetically, it's a really awesome setup in there too, and the owner did a great job with how everything is laid out. Staff was pretty helpful, polite, and were attentive when you were looking at stuff in the case, and are cool with folks testing out items before purchasing and mention they test out some of the higher-end stuff especially which is great. A couple things of note however; first: pricing is a bit high on most items, well over PriceCharting or eBay, so you might be better off getting most things you see online. Second: trade-in credit offers are a bit insulting. Brought in a bunch of games including one sealed and a new unopened Switch carrying case, and only received $10 in trade credit for everything. I understand these spots need to cover costs but felt like I should've gotten a bit more. I travelled a bit far out to this location since I only have a few smaller shops in my area, and mean no disrespect, but with those couple of factors, I'm not sure I'd travel way out here again or too often. If you live in the area, it could be worth checking out at the least. read more

Nice store. I've been going here since it opened at its previous location, I have nothing bad to say about it. As someone who's been gaming for most of my life, this place is like heaven. I feel like they highly advertise it as a retro video game store, which is true, but they also have modern video games as well for current consoles. Excellent Nintendo selection. Good prices. I bought a giant Animal Crossing Isabelle plush from here and a lot of 3DS/DS games and the staff is nice. I went to the Taunton location searching for NES games, I walked in and was pretty pleased with the selection.......until I actually started looking at the games. Not only were they over priced, even the very cheap commons, most of the cartridges had defects on them. I decided to take a look at the cartridges in the glass, the more expensive titles and realized quickly that they too were over priced. I do expect game stores to over price a little but they will not even work out any deals no matter how much you spend, the price is the price. I don't like their policy of once you buy a game no cash back if returned. If it's defected they will replace if they have another one, but most expensive titles are scarce so more than likely there will not be another one so you would have to find something of the same value. Overall I would say they have a decent selection, but too many negatives outweigh any good. read more

To be fair, the actual store is petty solid with all kinds of memorabilia and retro games. I was impressed with the collection. That wasn't the problem. I was on facebooks classifieds one day. I came across one entry that promoted a "GARAGE SALE/ YARD SALE" and it showed some old gaming systems in the photo. I was interested, but I was driving from Waltham. One hour drive from Taunton, but I thought "why not? This guy who is having a yard sale is just trying to get rid of their stuff so why don't I drive down there and see what I can get. Much to my surprise, I am greeted by a big store that says BOWSERS BASEMENT.. and on the side was a small pod transportation unit that had a bunch of stuff... that was the "garage/yard sale." I am upset because they worded the ad on Facebook as if it was a genuine garage sale. This was a business luring people in a way that I find very disingenuous. I can sum up my experience with this place (and the Game Zone in Salem and several other similar places) in 5 words: Where good games go to die. Why do I say that? Well, for starters anything that isn't a super common or sports trash is looked up on the internet. You heard correct! They'll find an "average" and then try (emphasis on the try) to quote you below Ebay listings. While I understand this idea in theory, in practice it's poor and really defeats the purpose of having a storefront at all, (unless the object is to have really cool games to display in a sort of personal collection storage-store hybrid... or maybe to make your Facebook page's images more attractive to lure people there)? Who knows the thought process behind this kind of store and it's pricing tactics, but I know as a potential customer who'd have spent hundreds there, it's incredibly off-putting. My main issue with it (looking up going value on games) of course being that on Ebay/Amazon/whatever, I can have the item shipped right to my door; I don't have to come into your location to have you quote what I can look up readily myself. Speaking of the commons... everything more or less starts at 5$, with ranges on stuff being higher-end of what you'd see online (Ebay) ... so again, what's the point other then to maybe sucker in people on Nostalgia purchases? It's a business, I get that... but it's also not the ONLY business of it's kind in the area, so... I mentioned the Game Zone (in Salem MA) because while yes, their inventory is equally impressive as this place with lots of nice stuff on their shelves... it's literally been there for YEARS with very little to no turnaround. This place is going to be in that same category; it's a store more intent on hoarding games then selling. I'll be sticking to patronizing Core Gaming in New Hampshire, Sudden Impact in Winthrop (Dom works with you if you're a repeat customer) or either of the That's Entertainment locations. Bowser basement is really good retro store you can find all sorts of your favorite games from gamecube to ps2 and much more what I raallu love about it the wide selection of games so much variety my only complaint is some things that are priced are way too expensive you can find a lot of things cheaper on eBay but other then that it's a really good store read more

As someone who regularly spends time thrifting and perusing retro collectible shops, I was absolutely blown away by Bowser's Basement. Easily the largest collection of in-box Nintendo games I have ever seen! All of their plushies are straight from Japan (no unlicensed bootlegs here)! My friend did a 3 hour trip back to back weekends just to view their amiibo collection. They also have a solid selection of arcade cabinets at the front too. The staff is very knowledgable and friendly. I also cannot believe how clean the entire shop is (no haphazard piles of mishmash to go through) and it's very well lit. This is an absolute can't miss store, and I look forward to coming in again! read more

This is the best video game store in Taunton. Heck, better than gamestop! They have every console you can imagine. NES, Snes, n64, SEGA genesis, and more. They also carry modern systems. They have a great selection of gameboy games and thats the main reason why i go there. I usually pick up some titles that are cheap. Some games go as low as 3 bucks! The more known titles are fairly priced. They also replace old console screens when they sell them. They gave me a new screen on my Original gameboy for 4 dollars. They even installed it for me, for free! Very nice staff. I really recommend this store for gamers of all types. Retro or modern, this store has got you covered! read more
