He has been my father's cardiologist for the past couple of months and we are beyond pleased with him. He is very through with all of his patients and spends a great deal of time explaining, listening, and being present with his patients. I didn't realize doctors like him existed anymore! At the end of each visit with my dad, he makes sure we understand the plan of care and we are in agreement. His office staff are very pleasant and a good representation of the practice he runs. I would highly recommend Dr Sheikh for any of your cardiology needs.

All of the doctors there are totally top notch and I found Dr. Karan Munuswamy to be one of those best of all doctors. My legs filled with fluid so bad I could hardly even walk. Then, as I couldn't find any shoes to fit, I basically became housebound. At the time we really weren't sure what was going on, but I had a dinner party at which there were three medical doctors as guests. By the way and as a tip, doctors make the worst party guests because no matter what, medical stuff becomes a topic of conversation. However for me it was good as with one look at my legs all three of them descended upon me demanding I see a cardiologist immediately which is what brought me to meet Dr. Munuswamy. On first visit he carefully examined me, gave me an electrocardiogram and set me up for other tests in order to find the problem. After each test he promptly phoned me with the results. It all just turned out that I had an adverse reaction to a prescribed medication. I couldn't have asked for better or more concerned treatment and fortunately find that I had no cardiology problems. Pleasant, Professional and Patient seems to be the theme permeating this office. But I was seen first by his P.A. or Nurse Practitioner, Annie, who conducted an initial in-depth assessment, thoroughly reviewing my situation and history and asking pertinent questions. AND she was, unsurprisingly, pleasant, professional and patient. Having been aware of Dr. Chizner's training and accomplishments I expected to be a bit intimidated, but despite the white-coat-syndrome-on-steroids with all the pros in their white coats, I was comfortable with him from the start. It was interesting to see the teaching that was going on as he conducted his assessment and it was clear that he has great rapport with his students as he frequently made eye contact with them to highlight a point or observation. The bottom line is that virtually immediately he identified the likely cause of my complaints which have persisted for years. No tests, no labs, no scans. Just simply his inquiry into my symptoms and history. This after the previous usual suspects of echo's, ekgs and so on having been inflicted on me which provided no guidance into explaining my situation. I'd be remiss if I didn't recognize Alicia, the young lady at the front desk who also fields the phone calls. She is, you guessed it, very pleasant, patient and professional at what she does AND helpful. I should also mention that there was never any hint of any time constraints.

For nearly two years, I repeatedly expressed concerns to Dr. Bartzokis about my coronary calcium…read morescore of 620. My understanding is that a calcium score this high indicates significant plaque buildup, and I was concerned because the score itself does not identify where the blockages are located. Each time I raised my concerns, they were dismissed, with comments that he had patients with calcium scores much higher than mine. In April, while riding my bike, my smartwatch alerted me that my heart rate had reached 172 bpm. Initially, I thought the watch might be malfunctioning, but I did not feel well. Two days later, while simply walking, my heart rate rose to 148 bpm. Concerned, I immediately contacted my primary care physician, who saw me the same day. After performing an EKG, he diagnosed me with atrial fibrillation, prescribed Eliquis and medication to control my heart rate, and strongly advised me to see my cardiologist as soon as possible. I contacted Dr. Bartzokis' office but did not receive a return call. The following morning, I called again and was told to come into the office around 11:00 a.m. A nurse performed another EKG, which happened to be normal at that moment. I explained that I had recently been diagnosed with atrial fibrillation, was experiencing chest pain, did not feel well, and remained extremely concerned about my calcium score. The nurse told me she would ask Dr. Bartzokis to come in and see me. She returned with a heart monitor and informed me that he was too busy and that I should come back in a week. While she was attaching the monitor, I again emphasized that I had recently been diagnosed with atrial fibrillation, had chest pain, and had been expressing concerns about my elevated calcium score for two years. She again said she would speak with him. When she returned, she once more informed me that he was too busy to see me. Two nights later, my smartwatch alerted me that my heart rate had reached 148 bpm while I was sleeping. The following morning, it remained around 142 bpm. My wife drove me to the emergency room, where I was immediately admitted to the hospital. After evaluation, I underwent a cardiac catheterization procedure. The results revealed two significant blockages: one at 90% and another at 70%. Two stents were required. I was informed that the 90% blockage involved a major coronary artery often referred to as the "widow-maker." What is most upsetting to me is that I sought help repeatedly. I reported atrial fibrillation, chest pain, elevated heart rates, and longstanding concerns about a high calcium score. Despite these warning signs, I was never seen by Dr. Bartzokis during that urgent visit because he was reportedly too busy. I cannot overstate my disappointment with the lack of urgency, concern, and communication I experienced. Based on my personal experience, I do not feel that my symptoms were taken seriously, and I cannot recommend this practice to others seeking responsive cardiac care.
