I love Box Hill Grocer! They have a good variety of specialty items so I always have to browse even if I was just in recently. My go-to item is the Giant Bean Salad; it is so good! Don't snooze on the chicken tenders, they are large with great breading, and they give you a sauce to go with them. I usually get a bag of Truffle premium chips; I am obsessed with them. Behind the case and behind the registers the employees are super nice and always helpful! I can't wait till they get more of the Huzzah Creek Missouri Maple Syrup, yum. I wishhhhh they let you custom make sandwiches, but I get why they don't; the line would be OUT THE DOOR. I came here for the first time, wanting a sandwich and wanting to try a new spot. I was greeted as soon as I entered. Very quaint establishment: I KNOW the name of the place says "grocer", but I was still under the impression that this was a sandwich shop and it's not. Blame my hunger, ok??? It is a grocery store, and a small one at that. I head to the back to the deli and the butcher was super helpful with answering ALL my questions. Learned more about how everything works and more. All sandwiches are pre made and once they sell out, they're gone. There was a turkey sandwich and a roast beef one left. I opted for the turkey sandwich, asked for a side of remoulade sauce that's originally used for the shrimp po boy I believe. I bought a bag of chips to go with it. Total was about $15. The sandwich was delicious. LOADED with turkey and arugula it had a dill spread on it, and it was also sooo good. the remoulade helped give it more flavor and kick. I did not hear about this place until I found the Instagram of a local small business (Say Cheese) selling their unique Basque Cheesecakes here! Their Biscoff Basque style cheesecake was delicious!! It basically does not have crust and rather is cooked at higher temperature so that the outside is more solid and the inside is more soft and custard-like. Definitely recommend! Their original flavor is gluten-free. This small size of the cheesecake feeds 3-4 people. This small boutique grocery store has plenty of readymade food options and good wine selection. Definitely will be trying more things from local businesses here. read more

Killer cookies, great selection, and amazing people. Would be asinine of me to begin anywhere other than the service. I was halfway through the door when the worker's face lit up and asked me how I was doing paired with a genuine smile. Gotta love when people are actually happy when they're at work. I was approached with that same energy when checking out. Magnificent. The interior is awesome. Think a bodega took a trip to hilton head. A bougie bodega, lol. Artisan selections, fresh--local--fruits, and tons of freshly prepped grab and go meals. The roast beef sandwich looked amazing. The SAME baguette Wright's uses for the french dip! I was in the area and recalled somebody had shown me a picture of a good looking sandwich from this place recently, so I figured I would give it a try. It's a small market with some affiliation with the nearby Wright's Tavern, which I'm told is an amazing steak joint. It's a small market and they sell sandwiches. I don't love Clayton (the neighborhood) as a general rule and this visit didn't disappoint. Had to pay for parking and the number of snotty people who couldn't be bothered with the slightest bit of manners in the 25 minutes I spent getting from my car into the store and back to my car was right on pace. From what I can tell they sell paninis as hot sandwiches and they have some premade cold sandwiches on offer as well. I like a good roast beef with cheddar so I got one of those from the panini making kid. He was nice and very helpful. I got mine without the caramelized onions. It came with a good portion of jus for dipping and it was good, but man was it salty. I have met very few things in my life that are too salty for me, but this sandwich was up there. The guy was using a cup to put the seasoning on and he was laying it on pretty thick. I think that was the issue maybe but it could have been the jus or beef, idk. I got my wife whatever the other panini on special that day was, some sort of chicken with spinach/artichoke dip. I took it to her to eat at her work and she said it was a good sandwich. She liked the spinach artichoke dip especially. I also got myself a cold turkey sandwich with pickles and a dill sauce that was okay. I liked the pickles and the havarti cheese and the seeded bread was tasty. I may try it again and heat it up a little bit. They had some good looking but expensive items like steaks and crab cakes for sale too. I opted for a couple of small, whole chickens (miller brand?) that set me back about $25 each. Ouch, but the one I roasted for dinner that night was really good. I'm looking forward to grilling the other one. If I lived or worked closer to this place I'd definitely try it again and I REALLY want to try Wright's Tavern, but I'd not go out of my way I don't think to eat here regularly when there are so many other sandwich places in the general vicinity. I like it more for the small market and deli/meat offerings than as a sandwich place, and maybe that's the point? Still, if you're close and hungry, it's pretty solid. read more

I had been watching the progress of the place coming to life, but it took me awhile to make the stop in. I had seen so many people posting about the breakfast burritos, so I knew I needed to make it a priority. And WOW - the burritos are delicious. The ingredients are fresh, the steak was so tender, and it is LOADED. I wish the salsa was spicy, but with such good flavors you really can't be disappointed. I had a look around and was tempted to buy so many other things, but it's a bit on the pricier side because of their locally sourced and fine ingredients, so it'll be slow and steady trying different offerings! But I did also get a cinnamon roll and also WOW. It was hefty and tasty - dense, but light, flakey, full of cinnamon and not overly sweet. read more

Super cute! This boutique grocer is located next door to Wright's Tavern and as ypu enter you get that instant vibe of cozy and warm. My first thought was, oh it smells great in here! This place offers wines, beverages such as Aqua Panna, sparkling waters and flavored spritzes, cheeses, grab and go delicacies such as pre-made sandwiches, mac n Cheese and sauces. In the left fresh case, you'll find meats such as awesome cuts of steak and in the right fresh case, you'll find deli classics like chicken salad, potato salad and crab cakes! This place is an extension of Wright's Tavern, so the meats, Crab cakes, sauces, etc are what you find next door. I luv Wright's, so I grabbed a crabcake, Mac n Cheese and lobster bisque for dinner. Picked up a Turkey Sandwich and some Chicken salad as well. This is a great pop in and grab some items and head home to eat. My husband and I just walked into Box Hill Grocer for the first time to grab some sandwiches and drinks. We were the only customers in there and were just looking around at all the things they had. My husband and I have been wanting to try box hill since they opened. Similar to the other Matt McGuire restaurants, the ambiance is on point - classy, understated, tasteful, and matching the expectations of the establishment. In this case, this means a cozy store with simple but high quality decor. The staff, as with his restaurants, was very friendly and attentive without being pushy or smothering. The 4-stars? The prices ... yes, they certainly use the highest quality products... but $19 for a pre-made turkey sandwich!? The prices prohibit this from being a regular in the rotation, more of a treat. It was a good sandwich; turkey was tasty, quality bread, simple flavor combos, but a bit heavy on the dill sauce/spread (my husband said the same of his roast beef) and there are no options for modifications. read more
