I joined BoxUnion Santa Monica in June 2023, and it has been such a great part of my fitness routine. Oscar, the front desk manager, was truly one of a kind, he remembered everyone's name, was so personable, and his energy made the studio feel like home. All of the front desk staff are great, but Oscar's warmth was unforgettable, and I think the studio really thrived with that kind of welcoming vibe. Cory and Lo are incredible instructors. They go hard on us from start to finish, always bringing the energy and encouragement we need to push through. Lo's dance moves are next-level (love you, Lo!) and Cory's motivation is unmatched, you can tell they love what they do, and it makes a huge difference in class. The studio itself offers thoughtful touches like hair ties, deodorant, shampoo, conditioner, and all kinds of toiletries for anyone who wants to shower after class. Those details don't go unnoticed and make the experience even better. One thing I'd love to see is more variety in the playlists, maybe a little country or some Latino mixes to keep things fresh. Also, the workouts feel different depending on the instructor, and while some classes are more laid-back, I personally prefer the high-energy, sweat-dripping style that Cory and Lo bring. The room does get warm, which is challenging for me since I have multiple sclerosis, but I know others love that heated, intense vibe. Overall, BoxUnion is a solid studio with so much potential, and the energy from coaches like Cory and Lo really keeps me coming back. With a little more music variety and that welcoming, community vibe I remember from when Oscar was around, it could easily be a five-star experience. read more

I highly recommend BoxUnion! My first time trying boxing, and I loved it! Chelsea Martin is a great human being born to coach and motivate people! I came 10 minutes before the class started, and she gave me the rundown and demonstrated the elemental punches. Next thing you know, the room is full of highly motivated people, bomb A** music, and I started to move my body quickly, throwing punches left and right. I'm a total boxing newbie, but I could still follow along and get a great sweat. You start by throwing punches without the gloves and then with them. There is also some floor work, abs, and total body movements. The last part is all you, baby, throwing punches and leaving everything behind. The facility is very organized and neat, and there are cubbies with locks on them, clean bathrooms, showers, towels, etc. You can rent or buy their hand wraps and boxing gloves. If it's your first time, you will get them for free. You can also bring your own! Parking -If you come to an early morning class, at 6 AM or 7 AM, you can find parking on the street by the meters, and you don't have to put coins in since it's free before 8 AM. This area gets bust, so if you come later, you will have to park in one of the lots nearby' there are plenty of lots in the area as this area is high tourist. read more

The people who work here are the kindest and cultivate such a fun and welcoming environment for people of all fitness levels. They also go above and beyond to truly make you feel like part of the family, even if you've only taken one class! The workout itself is simply the BEST! It's the perfect combination of fun & skill and the fact that EVERY move is to the beat makes it 10x better!! It's challenging but doable, and the coaches are so energetic and knowledgeable about how to modify moves if you need to. I joined this boxing gym, last year and I must say it has been an exceptional experience. I have tried out many boxing gyms in LA and this one cannot be beat. From the moment I walked in, the staff greeted me warmly and made me feel welcome. The trainers are not only highly skilled but also incredibly supportive and encouraging. Obsessed is an understatement! Not only have these workouts increased my strength and stamina, but they have also helped with mindset so much. These classes have become my therapy! Honestly, box union has gone way downhill after coach Corey left. The only solid instructors are Lo and Myles. The other instructors talk way too much during class, you can barely hear the music and you barely sweat in their classes. I loved coming here everyday, it was an amazing workout, I felt great after and now they barely have any class times and the instructors cater way more towards people who have never boxed before. Box union is fantastic! My favorite work out class to date. I've been going to Box union consistently (5-7 times a week) for the past 6 months. Boxing is arguably one of the best cardio workouts you can do. Box union makes the workout fun and enjoyable. They combine boxing with music, you box to the beat. The staff is beyond amazing. From the front desk, to the coaches, it's truly like a little family. All of the coaches are extremely motivating and push you to achieve the most from your workout. They are all experienced in boxing and will work with you after class to work on your form. The pricing is great compared to a lot of the other workout studios in LA, and I believe it gets you the best results. I've been paying roughly $260 per month and have gone 20-30 times per month, so I definitely get the most out of my membership. You can also pay for individual classes as well, but if you plan on making this somewhat consistent I recommend getting a membership. I want to give a big shoutout to Coach Lo, Cory, and Elise. I've worked with these coaches the most and they really have pushed me to do the best for my body. Coach Lo was the first coach I consistently worked with and she got me hooked. I also want to shout out Sam, Oscar, and Nicole at the front desk because they are amazing and take care of anything I need while I'm there! If you are looking to get into something consistent, fun, and give you amazing results, I would highly recommend Box Union. It's a great environment, and it's extremely addicting. Having heard about BoxUnion from some friends, I made a point to come sign up for a class (or 3 with their First Timers package) as soon as I got back to LA for winter break! I checked out Deja's class, and I'm so glad I did! I arrived 15 minutes early to get acquainted with the studio and to learn the ropes for my first time. Parking nearby was easy - there's a lot just north of the studio (still on Ocean Ave and just south of Olympic Blvd). So, I arrived and was warmly greeted by Gabriela, who helped me with signing in and getting my wraps and then showed me around the studio. The studio is bright and clean, with men's and women's bathrooms that have showers as well, lockers for everyone's belongings, and a spacious seating area for people to hang out before or after class. Once you enter the dark, dimly lit studio and you immediately get in the zone. The class itself was a full body workout experience!! I came in expecting to put gloves on right away and get to boxing, but we did all sorts of exercises to warm up and throughout the 45 minutes that worked the whole body! In addition to the boxing combos, we did planks, squats, mountain climbers, high knees, jumps, and more! The music was great and Deja was super energizing. I've been coming to BoxUnion consistently for the last year. While we've been out of the Santa Monica studio and instead at BeatsUnion, BoxUnion hasn't missed A BEAT. I absolutely love the Mitts and HIIT classes, which, as someone who was doing standard BU classes 5+ times a week, let me really use the punches and better my form/skill. Recently I've been taking Demont's classes (a newer instructor) and all I have to say is WOW! He is one of the best coaches I've had in any workout environment. He knows he's sh*t, knows when to challenge you, his music is amazing, he has the best energy and he really does want everyone to learn and grow their skills. This place holds a dear place in my heart, like your first love or your first homeroom class as a teacher. BoxUnion took my boxing virginity and it was the most romantic scene you ever did see, better than the Notebook. A friend invited me, not knowing this invitation would change my life. Thank you, ClassPass for creating this connection! Note: always wear protection!! Free glove rental on your first visit, $3 glove rentals any other day, $7 glove wraps (necessary under gloves). I recommend investing in gloves if you plan on attending more than a few classes, my recommended brand is Pro Force, only $35 on Amazon, or you can purchase BoxUnion merch at their location :D! This was my first experience boxing and I couldn't have asked for a better, more caring, more experienced partner. BoxUnion staff is friendly, welcoming, warm. Trying a new gym/ sport can be intimidating and BoxUnion makes all first-timers seem like pros! Lucky for us. I recommend arriving 15min before the class, they teach you the basic moves (6: jabs, hooks, uppercuts). You're free to use the restrooms, the showers have body wash, shampoo, and conditioner set in place. They offer plastic bags to carry sweaty clothes. There's also face wash, Aveeno body lotion, Secret spray deodorant, Pantene dry shampoo, TRESemmé hair spray, band-aids, q-tips, razors, and tampons. Next to the suggestion box and wifi password (2getherwebox), you'll find a station with mints, hair ties, ear plugs, and hand sanitizer. Lockers are also available to store personal items. They really take care of you here. Parking: Meter parking is available along Ocean Avenue, Olympic Boulevard and Main Street. There is also a convenient public parking lot located at 1705 Ocean Avenue. $1.50 for the first two hours (or 90 minutes free with validation from Starbucks). Entrance is right after Jimmy's if you are going North on Ocean Ave. BoxUnion is very similar to SoulCycle, if you're familiar with their traditional methods. They're obviously very distinct but that comparison can be a guide as to what to expect. You box to the beat of the music, your social anxiety is calmed by the dim lighting, you're lead by enthusiastic instructors that love their jobs, and you leave with a kick ass workout under your belt. My first instructor was Chris P., I've done the Signature + Yoga (loved but don't see it available anymore), and most recently experienced classes with Maxie H. (although she's new, she's my favorite!) I guarantee you'll love whoever leads you, though! BoxUnion is more than a club, it's a community. They really make you feel at home. I follow them on social media and they do an amazing job at highlighting and connecting with people. I really commend them for listening to their customers. You can see this through their suggestion box (wasn't there before), their Coaches Corner series (SO HELPFUL BTW), and I really LOVE their Combo of the Day. When I don't have time to make it to a class, I box at my own gym using the Combo of the Day. PLEASE DO THIS MORE OFTEN. Their coaches are so real. I started following Caitlin Eckstein (@werkwithcait) after an IG Story takeover, she's hilarious and encouraging. I honestly love coming to this place and wish there was one closer to my home! I went for a complimentary evening class (the standard BoxUnion one) with a friend on a Thursday with Kyle running the class, and had a really good time. The class was pretty much full and you could tell people really enjoyed being there, it wasn't just a begrudging workout you feel forced to do. The front desk staff was helpful and explained the process so that we could check in easily, get our wraps (only $6) and put our stuff in lockers. Everyone gets behind their own personal punching bag with a towel hanging from it for your convenience, and the workout begins with a warm up where you get in the groove and start out with some moves. Then, you put on the gloves and really get down to business. It's not just punching, it's a combination of legs, arms, core, and technique. It's only 45 minutes, but you really break a sweat and that time flies by! Before you know it you're doing free punches and cooling off. I felt super energized following the workout. I live kind of far from Santa Monica so I probably couldn't make it a regular thing, but I would definitely go back on a weekend or occasional work night if I happen to be in the area, because it's a great way to get in a well-rounded workout with a class. read more

My girlfriend got me into coming to box union and ever since that I never looked back. The classes are amazing and best believe you will leave out of there drenched in sweat like you if you just jumped out of a pool. I have taken the Hip Hop Signature class with Kyle at Box Union twice now. This was my first time EVER boxing and I felt like a natural. Kyle fills the room with good, positive energy and then blasts explicit hip hop music making everyone feel powered and in the zone! Each punch has a count and he will shout out numbers and everyone throws their punches in sync with one another. Towards the end he allows a couple of minutes for freestyle as long as you do not stop punching. What a workout, if you give it your all you will walk out bright red and dripping sweat. There is also 10 min of abs which is nice! The place is extremely clean, including bathrooms and showers. You can put your belongings in a locker for free. You can rent gloves for $2 or bring your own, but you have to buy wraps for $5 then they are yours to keep. BEWARE : The rental gloves REEK! lol Parking is wherever you can find on street or in the garage right next door to Jimmys Tavern and pay $1.50. read more

Where should I start? I first heard about BU through a Shape magazine event and decided to try the actual class at their main studio. It is by far one of the best cardio strength workouts I have done. I would describe it as the Soul Cycle of boxing. You get your own bag and there's plenty of space between you and your classmates to move around. Each instructor has their own style and the punch combinations change in each class so if go on a daily basis you get a different class each time. The classes are 45 minutes long and the instructors give you a brief intro of the combos and punches 5 minutes before class. Tips: wraps are recommended and studio sells them for $5, you keep after, glove rentals are $2, but you can bring your own. All the instructors are great and the staff is friendly. Free parking is available in streets one block south of Pico and main, super quick walk or pay $1.50 in the complex lot. read more

Had such a great time coming here for my first time. You warm up with shadow boxing using just your hands and then switch to little weights and box which i really love. You finally do put on your gloves but you do a lot of cardio mixed in and finish with abs as well, that i would say you are probably only boxing for 10-15 minutes max. You do walk out of there feeling like you had a good workout but if you are looking for a more boxing boxing class I wouldn't recommend. However the instructor was awesome, loud, and motivating and the music was great! read more
