Boyd's Grill &Wine Bar is on the ground floor of the Grand Hotel at Trafalger Square. Just a half block down Northumberland Street from the square. The staff are friendly, professional, knowledgeable, and accommodating. The decor is regal, reflecting a space that when opened in 1887, was the first hotel with electricity and hot/cold running water. The bar offers well crafted and presented cocktails. The restaurant offers excellently prepared and presented plates that concentrate on locally sourced, sustainable products. My wife loved her Scottish salmon on mashed potatoes. Another great dining experience located inside the Grand Hotel. We stopped in for drinks every night we stayed at the hotel since we enjoyed the ambiance of this historic lobby. This was a big disappointment. Service, food, atmosphere. If you're not a large party, you're ignored. The steaks are barely passable as steaks and they put jam on just about everything. I have come here just for a drink. The staff are incredibly friendly and happy to chat, the decor is perfect. Sitting here with my drink, I am enjoying both opulent surroundings, in a magnificent traditional building, but with the twist of creative and well done modern furniture. It just feels so friendly, that I am not feeling self conscious sitting here by myself waiting for a friend to arrive. The only reason I have not given it that 5th star, is that the whiskeys, which is what I came in for, are a rather basic standard range, of mainstream standard lower end brands. The other drinks may have a more eclectic range, but I can only judge what I came here for. Also having just come in here for a drink, I have not tried out the food. If you are in the area and would like a place to pop in. I recommend this was a good choice for atmosphere and service. However the range of drinks are not exactly craft beer and interesting. read more

Went to Boyd's on a Saturday in early October, the location is easy for before or after lots of things, so I have been before. The re-fit is looking great, the room has really opened up and lends itself all the more to an informal quality dining experience, I love the new cushions and winged chairs and was surprised at how comfy the "invisible" chairs were after a few hours. Rather than traditional starters, there is "British Tapas". Very good concept, well executed across the items we had; Scotch Egg, Chicken Liver Pate and Mushrooms on Toast seemed to be the winners round the table but there were also Cumbrian Ham and Skate Cheeks, [who knew?] I had the Bass which was easy to eat and cooked perfectly, very good portion too. Round the table we also enjoyed Goats Cheese Salad & Pork with crunchy crackling. Only complaint I heard was that the chicken dish we had was too large, I thought the bread sauce with it was delicious. None of the sides disappointed; mash very good texture-wise, potato and bacon was refreshing and everything green was enticingly green which is always a help. The girls liked the little casserole dishes everything was served in btw. Duo of Cheese was good for not being cold and good contrast between the varieties, I had the chocolate tart which was lovely and rich, the sorbet with it was excellent, really fresh in the mouth and an explosion of flavour. There was also a raspberry crumble which went down so well I barely caught sight of it! Custard was tasty though... Chilean Sauvignon was acceptable but no more I thought. Clos Maucaillou was excellent and good value, we also had a red dessert wine that was recommended at the table [very good with my sorbet and the cheese too...]. We had a bottle of Prosecco before we took to the table with bowls of spicy things, they could do with bar nuts instead. Service from everyone was attentive and individual and the bill was £60 a head with 4 bottles of wine, water, service and bread which I thought was good value in such a sumptuous setting. read more

How sad...such a waste of attractive space. Lots of marble and plush seating near the bar area, the bar is glitzy and the dining area tastefully decorated. Interesting menu, small and large plates, and a pre-theater menu for less that 20 pounds. Lots of wines, too few by the glass. The service is what made it such a waste. The waiter had to check our order and still got it wrong, too many differing servers helped to make a mess of what we wanted, and then, after asking for the bill twice, we got a bill that was completely screwed up. In trying to fix it the bill got screwed up even more. Yikes! It is pointless to have good food in a nice place if service is horrendous. One and done, as the wags say. read more

I had a voucher for Boyd's, but even without it the meal would have been reasonable. There was a nice selection of things to choose from on the menu and the food overall was pretty good. Nothing amazing but all enjoyable. Good wine selection as well. Cocktails are a bit steep. Hotel setting isn't my favorite but it was still nice. And it was annoying you have to pay for bread. -Chicken livers: Tasty but could use a better sauce/reduction -Duck Roll: Good flavors but nothing amazing -Steak and chips: Cooked well. Yummy chips. We had a pre theatre dinner at Boyd's and really enjoyed the food. The "British" tapas were very nice indeed. I enjoyed venison and pork belly. The fish pies was very nice indeed. Fruit crumble delicious. The wine list was limited, obscure and pricey. The service was excellent and they got us out in good time for the theatre. Boyd's Brasserie is one of the most elegant dining spaces I've had the pleasure of visiting in London! The fact that the food's fab and the service is good seem like a bonus. Owned by Charles Boyd, previously of top end caterers Chester Boyd with Head Chef David Collison in the kitchen, Boyd's is situated within the Marble Hall of the former Victoria Hotel (originally opened in 1887 and recently reopened as The Grand at Trafalgar Square). This is a new restaurant (and shared by) within Connections, Club Quarters, and Grand Hotel. The staff is young and very cordial. However, the food leaves a lot to be desired. I had the chicken noodle soup. There was absolutely no flavor. I also had the dry cured ham and blue cheese (they call this The Ploughman). However, a Ploughman meal normally comes with bread and they charge 2.50GBP for bread. Silly! Garfunkles down the street prepares a better mean at the 1/3 of the price. read more

Pleasant experience. Learned before play started that it would end after Boyd's kitchen closed. Visited maitre'd who said So sorry, but please come anyhow. Sit in our bar, try our amazing wine list and we'll make you a meat and cheese sampler. So, after theater we returned, were warmly greeted, promply served fine wine, tasty rosemary bread and crisp cracker array, 3 cheese, 4 salume, and butter. What beautiful bar! I felt like had been taken back in time to the roaring 20s! The chandeliers were amazing - a true work of art. There is a whole cocktail section in the menu "inspired by the 1920s" (and the cocktails are simply gorgeous; served in the most beautiful glasses). Presentation and attention to detail are clearly priorities at Boyds and rightly so too. The volume of music (speakeasy bar feel) is perfect, so you can hold a conversation. Turned away from Albannach just off Trafalgar for no reservations. Found Boyd's just up the street. Were more than happy to fit us in. Wow! Can't vouch for everything on the menu, but we had the Beef Wellington for two. So, so good!! Much cheaper than Albannach and the decor is absolutely much more beautiful. Really nice! Much more upscale but felt at ease as dressed following a day touring the National Gallery. Go to Boyd's!! Then had Raspberry Creme Brûlée. Wow!! Perfect evening. Highly recommend. Boyd's Bar and Grill is an excellent restaurant located in the heart of Charing Cross. It is a quiet unassuming restaurant that serves excellent food and great customer service. Upon walking into the beautiful bar with gorgeous chandeliers and brass furnishings. The traditional classic décor is accented by modern paintings and a young upscale crowd while the food is very fresh and tasty. Our main course consisted of fish and chips, however with a twist, the fish was grilled rather than fried. As much as I like fried foods, the grilled fish was just as tasty if not more so. The service was fantastic as we were greeted by the host immediately and seated just as quickly. Our server also met us with a smile. The location is perfect in Charing Cross, close enough to Piccadilly Square but away from all the noise and all the crowds. It is tucked away in a quiet little building. We will definitely go eat there again and I look forward to our next visit. Lloyd's Bar and Grill ultimately is good food and great service. Great food, poor service. The ambiance was nice for a dinner for two. Had the British Tapas' for starters which were small bites but very flavorful. I ordered the smoked salmon and it was very delicious. The wine list was limited and seemed a bit overpriced. The waitress was not friendly, I don't think we were able to even get her to crack a smile. We ordered a bottle of red wine and a bottle of white was brought out. We again, pointed out the bottle that we originally ordered so they went back to the cellar and then grabbed a bottle of red but it wasn't the bottle we originally ordered.
