We recently spent some time on Lake Walloon and visited Barrel Back Restaurant and this General Store, as well as the park nextdoor. This place now offers breakfast, lunch, dinner, grocery items, Michigan brands, apparel, houseware stuff, and so much more. The staff is friendly and the store is huge and beautiful! Prices are reasonable too... On our recent visits, we purchased some beverages, sandwiches and Better Made chips too. (While in Michigan, amiright?!) They also keep a small fridge in the back for a selection of pre-made cold meals and sides. Again, due to its small size, it is pretty limited on what it offers, but it covers a basic grocery haul. Also, items are typically listed at a higher premium than a standard grocery store because of the local and organic quality of its products. I would recommend dropping by if only to look around and see what's available if you want to shop locally.

This year our family was celebrating our father's 80th Birthday and not only did Chip host 19 of us (16 adults and 3 rug rats) on a busy night, he provided a delightful selection foods for our sail on Grand Traverse Bay with 50 family and friends. It appeared that this would be a special place so we made a reservation for the next week, July 23rd at 6pm. On July 23rd, circumstances found us away from Charlevoix and so at 11:30am I called to cancel the reservation. Here is where it gets a little crazy. The owner answers and he becomes angry with me for canceling. He wants to know why. I explain we are out of town. He says, "Oh, so you are the only one with a life and you think you are very important". I apologize that we cannot make the reservation, he says,"Don't ever call here again" and then disconnects the call before I can respond. I was about to spend $300 to $400 on a meal at this restaurant, very strange customer service. Giving a restaurant plenty of notice (7 hours), I have never experienced rudeness on this level before.
