Some of my best years if not best came from my 4 years as a Bruin. It does help that I played football and was pulled early from class every Friday that we had an away game. But still there was no better feeling playing under the lights at Buchser and going to the frat parties after the SCU Broncos played or before a Saturday game.It was epic because I only got that experience my freshman and sophomore year. Aside from football I enjoyed my crowd I hung out with. Till this day we are all still friends...some of us are even employed by the same employer or keep in contact via social media. I got great direction from all my teachers and most of the office.I can go on but SCHS layer out the foundation for me.I has a tough upbringing but my time at Santa Clara gave me some sense of direction. Even after being uprooted to East Side San Jose where I would've became a James Lick Comet my Junior year and on I fought tooth and nail to convince my gramps to let me finish as a Bruin. He was against it but I won...because he let me and I finished my studies by becoming good friends with the VTA 22 line as that was my Uber till my senior year. I can go on for days about my time at SC albeit girlfriends, dances, Wilcox homecoming, my crew, concert choir, cutting to go to Togos or 7-11 to play Mortal Combat or football rallies. Man that was the time of my life and I love being a Bruin. FYI. Heels nah I would've never became a Comet even though I'm from that side of town!Thx Pops for letting me stay Blue and Yellow!!! -class of 94

Absolutely not. Firstly YONDR pouches are a nuisance and show just how little the staff trusts us. Constant YONDR checks everyday, if you get caught with a fake phone or no phone at all? Well it varies but for Me I had to talk to THE ADMIN. Are you serious? All over a phone by the way. Next, the teachers. Jesus Christ these teachers are just not very great. One of mine for health is Arrogant, cocky about the kids and all talk. Others are TERRIBLE at teaching and genuinely have me wondering why the hell im even here. My Mental health here was and still is at an all time low. Everyday I wake up and DREAD coming here, yes disliking school is normal but the fact I felt damn near suicidal (I wish I was joking) due to this trash and wretch of a school is insane. Yes there are good students here who have helped me, but the staff? Absolutely not. I can't wait for this school year to be over and I hope and pray on this school's downfall. I already have enough things to worry about for my future. I'm not trying to stress over a GOD DAMN LETTER

Hands down, the best high school in Santa Clara…read more ACADEMICS - The school has been accredited for many years now and offers many AP classes, including: European & US History, Economics, English, Biology, Spanish, Statistics, Calculus, etc. Great group of teachers and staff too. SPORTS & SPIRIT TEAMS - We've got all the traditional high school sports you can think of from water polo to basketball to tennis. If your child wants to play football or join a spirit team (cheer, dance, or the Chargettes dance/drill team), then they should really go here. SPIRIT - The Homecoming Week and Fantastics (Battle of the Classes) celebrations are fantastic. For the last few years there has also been a Black & Blue Olympics, hosted by the city's teen center, for both high schools in Santa Clara. EXTRACURRICULARS - Lots. There are multicultural clubs, service clubs, an ungarbage crew (recycling), Link Crew (orientation leaders), colorguard and band, theatre, and more. We also boast a Sony Star Class Program. FACILITIES - Well they are really giving the school a facelift in recent years, although before I loved the way the classrooms and gyms looked bc that's what I grew up seeing when I visited. But can't complain about spankin' new facilities or a very nice theater. P.S. Class of 2009! :)

This school is a little hidden gem in the middle of Santa Clara…read more We are very, very, very happy we found it. Staff is very kind and helpful. Teachers are very nice and experimented. It's a catholic school and it's a very welcoming environment to anyone: all ethnicities, backgrounds, religions... They will not force you to something or treat you differently because of A or B. What I really like is indeed how diverse it is and that it also offer a good "work-life balance" for the little ones. St Lawrence offers a good education, with values and has a great after school program. It is competitive the right amount for us. I visited several other private schools but they were either not diverse, or way too competitive, 1 fit all style, and with too many helicopter parents. I want my kids to have a nurturing childhood, discover different kinds of people and not develop little robots that would do 5th grade maths in 2nd grade. It is so easy to fall in that trap, especially now and here in the Silicon Valley. What I also loved is that they offer Spanish, Drama and art (with a real specialized teachers) embedded in the curriculum. They have a recreative after school program (Crafts and games), but they also offer thematic programs (chess, programming, art, magician...) for a small extra fee. They have a competitive swim team on site (amazing!). Some things had to be stopped during Covid (after school, swim team), but it is my understanding that these will re-open in September 2021. Cost wise, it is way more affordable than most private schools in the Bay Area, and you can apply for aid as well. The school re-opened part time in Oct 2020 and full time in Jan 2021. Was such a help for the kids (and parents) I imagine. The only "complaint" I would have, is that they should do a little more anticipation and be better at organizing or setting up things (for example pool reopening, Science teacher coming in person etc.) But I blame most of it on a challenging 2020 year - for all of us. Thank you Mrs Lares, the Principal and the entire St Lawrence team!

Just really immature and self important. It's all about them. Ps if Carina is still principal she encouraged bullying and I saw ad heard her myself. "Now is not the time " during class time. Next thing you know someone is getting ganged up on on the playground. She's a piece of work. She makes herself that way. She's loony I have many more examples. When half the class is crying on the last day of school something is wrong. So they promoted her. Sick.

This being our first year of having her in school all day and all week, it was a little nerve wrecking for everyone but within the first week we were all put at ease. She is being set up for success when it's time to move on to the next grade. The community is so welcoming as well, it's easy to talk to other parents and even with staff. The students were so kind and playful; the teachers and staff were welcoming, encouraging and optimistic of the future. Years later, this is still true. I especially love the way they teach the students the "3Rs" - to be Respectful, Responsible and Resilient. It's more than book learning (which is going great too!). I appreciate the opportunity to volunteer at school events as it offers me insight into the dynamics of the interactions of the class and school. I see students who are engaged, excited to learn and grasp new ideas. I see students who still acknowledge their previous teachers and truly embrace positive memories with them. I also love their buddy program, where the older students partner with the younger ones - bridging the age gap. It develops accountability for the older while offering a sense of belonging to the younger. I can't say enough great things I see here. The most important one is that I see a staff who try their best every day to build a community that will far outgrow the walls and grades. Once you are a part of the family, you're never truly on your own.

It is one of four middle schools in Santa Clara and is located conveniently next to the city's Youth Activity Center (YAC) and Teen Center. ACADEMICS - I find the academic instruction to be good, although maybe not as high-achieving as that of Peterson. In 6th grade the students will have the same set of 30-35 students in every class while teachers will change. Then in 7th/8th grade there will be the same students in every "core" class (where one period is Language Arts and the other Social Studies) while in the other classes the teachers and students will change. Additionally, in 7th/8th grades there will be the option to take an elective class, which includes: leadership, art, TAing (teacher assistants), and a few more. SPORTS - There is a variety of afterschool sport programs here, including: volleyball, basketball, wrestling, soccer, and more. When I was a student here, there was a no cuts rule which was unique against the other middle schools. The wonderful thing about this is it encourages fitness and doesn't exclude any student. FACILITIES - The facilities are nice but unfortunately the school does not have school lockers or a gym like that of Peterson and Buchser since those two are former high schools. However, this is rarely a problem as textbooks are distributed in sets of two (one for the student to take home and one kept in class) and the YAC allows the middle school to use its gym. FUN FACTS - The 49ers STEM Leadership Institute (science, tech, engineering, math) is held here! Also, it may or may not be true that the principal Stan Garber plays whiffle ball with students in the mornings :).
