Through her incredible patience and guidance, Marissa helped me break bad vocal habits and re-trained my body and voice to do what it does naturally! She has helped me bring my voice to life through her heart and passion for music. A vocal lesson with Marissa is not a mere lesson: It is a magical experience where you learn so much about yourself and your voice through her intuitive and personal approach to teaching. She tailors each lesson uniquely to you and your voice. She has taught me to connect to music both technically and emotionally. Prior to Marissa's lessons, I would sing flatly and without any inkling of connection to the words I was singing. With her lessons, I have made so much progress in the color of voice, ability to reach notes I never fathomed I could, and convey meaning and expression through song. I have always been on the shy side and through her coaching and support, I am now more confident with my voice and performance than I ever have been. He can play more instruments than I can count, including a great synthesizer that he can make sound like any other instrument. He tailors his repertoire based on the kind of event you are having: he'll play a Hava Nagila for a bar mizva, a romantic love song for a wedding, or a club number for a birthday dance party. He also takes requests, so don't be afraid to ask him for your favorite song! Chances are, he will know how to play it.

REVIEW: "Merrily We Roll Along" at the Hudson Theatre on May 24, 2024…read more There are few more notoriously storied musicals than the 1981 show composed by Stephen Sondheim and directed by Hal Prince. It was a major fiasco that lasted just 17 performances on Broadway, even though the pair created a string of classic musicals that had permanently redefined musical theatre - "Company", Sweeney Todd", "A Little Night Music", "Follies". It has taken 43 years to mount a Broadway revival, and the wait was worth it. The concept was challenging to deliver credibly to begin with, a highly complex backward chronology that follows a trio of friends over the course of two decades. The complications start with the characters introduced as estranged and cynical at forty. This was a risky move to engage an audience. We are then led gradually back to their youthful innocence when they were full of dreams and unsure of their talent. The bond of their relationship is what gets them through the turbulence of both success and failure despite the inevitable intrusion of other characters who threaten to extract the threesome from each other. The three central performances were essential to pull off such a theatrical conceit, and the cast delivered. As Frank, the most ambitious and divisive of the trio, Jonathan Groff was fiercely compelling and unafraid to come off as unlikeable. Lindsay Mendez played self-effacing Mary with equal parts turbulence and vulnerability as she constantly pulls back on her love for Frank. I only wished they gave her more of a defining solo with the show's signature ballad, "Not a Day Goes By". Daniel Radcliffe - yes, Harry Potter - was winsome though not quite at Groff's and Mendez's level of stagecraft mastery. Nonetheless he pulls off his two big numbers - the comical meltdown "Franklin Shepard, Inc." and the poignant "Good Thing Going" - with bell-like assurance. The rest of the cast performed serviceably with Katie Rose Clarke sweetly naive as Frank's first wife Beth. Krystal Joy Brown overplays his second wife Gussie though she was clearly directed to go for the rafters with her performance. The view of the seat was amazing though - we were able to see everything, which I appreciate. This show is seriously fantastic - the acting from all three leads is stellar. I have seen Radcliffe a few times on Broadway and I think this is definitely his best role yet. The music was unique, but great. Overall phenomenal show. I was a…read morecomplete beginner on day one, and Mickey had a very clear and organized approach to getting me going on a brand new hobby for myself. She extremely communicative, and responsive, and has tailored my progressing to both my skills (or lack thereof) and to my interests. Mickey has also done a great job of finding ways to make the video conferencing aspect of COVID music lessons not get in the way of a productive lesson. While I sincerely look forward to in person interactions, video has been a great substitute in the interim.

Our lessons range from technical instruction, to just having fun jamming along to songs. Mickey has a vast knowledge of drumming, and uses it to figure out new and innovative ways to explain things I may have trouble understanding. We have so much fun in our lessons, and I wouldn't consider learning from anyone else. Mickey took me from a beginner to an intermediate player in 2 short years.
