    I'm a regular customer at Merlin. I used to get all my oil changes and car issues checked there…read more But every time I went, they'd hand me a huge list of repairs. For example, when my tail light was out, they charged me $35 just for installation--something I later learned to do myself in about two minutes. Then, I heard a sound from my tire, and they said it'd cost $600. When I hesitated, they warned me it was risky to drive, so I agreed. Later, I had an oil change--they charged me $80 for synthetic oil, which should last 6,000 miles. But at 2,500 miles, my engine oil light came on. I checked, and there was no oil. I had to get it redone elsewhere. Next, I had a catalytic converter issue. Merlin charged me $300 for installation after I bought the part myself. Later, I smelled smoke from my A/C vent. They told me it would go away after some miles, but it didn't. My engine light stayed on, and after about 7,000 miles, the car wouldn't accelerate. They said it was the catalytic converter again--$1,500. I had no choice, so I paid. They had already charged me $99 for the diagnostic. One week later, I heard another noise from the tire. I asked them to check, but they wanted another diagnostic fee. I reminded them I had just done one, but they insisted it was separate. I paid $99 again. Then they said it was the tire bearings--$600. I was suspicious, so I took my car elsewhere. Turns out it wasn't the bearings; it was brake pads. I've realized they exaggerate issues to charge more. I've wasted $3,000 in two years. If I'd gone to another mechanic first, I'd have avoided all this. I've seen other reviews saying the same. I don't recommend Merlin. If you have car issues, go somewhere else.

I feel like Montway was a bit deceptive in the quote however. The initial quote was raised because the car was "modified", but in reality it had been stretched 1.5 ft in the front. This was not an issue for the transport, as the driver had a trailer that hauled 2-3 vehicles. Montway rep said on the phone that $200-$300 would be charged to my credit card and the rest would go to the driver, and I received an email stating that $1370 would be owed to the driver on delivery. In reality, Montway charged my card $499, and sent another email stating to only pay the driver $1,100, which I did, but it felt deceptive. I am guessing that Montway got a way better deal from the driver than they anticipated, and instead of passing some of that saving on to me, or explaining, they just charged my card double what the rep said they would and kept all of the profit. Also, the rep promised tracking, which never happened - we had to call the driver a couple of times to find out the delivery time, because he hit traffic (which I understand he cannot control) and got held up by a couple of hours. All in all, it is done, but Montway didn't leave the best impression overall as a transport broker. Grateful I had a better driver than some of these other reviews...

    I hired Montway to transport my personal vehicle to another state as part of my move…read more Because the shipping cost was high enough to exceed my credit card limit, Montway proposed splitting the payment: a deposit by credit card and the remaining balance in cash. I agreed to this arrangement. I was also told that paying the balance in cash would qualify me for a discount. However, as soon as I provided my credit card information, communication completely stopped. Instead of charging only the agreed deposit, Montway charged my credit card for more than the full agreed amount without my authorization. As a result, my credit card exceeded its limit. Since then, I have repeatedly tried to contact Montway by phone and email, but I have received no meaningful response. The only emails I continue to receive are automated messages demanding that I approve my credit card payment. To be fair, the carrier that Montway assigned was professional, courteous, and did an excellent job transporting my vehicle. They are not responsible for this issue. My complaint is entirely about Montway's billing practices and customer service. It is also concerning that the transportation proceeded normally while the payment dispute remained completely unresolved. At this point, I genuinely don't know how to resolve the situation. I expected clear communication and honest billing, but instead I was left with an overcharged credit card and no way to get answers. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend Montway.
