I put it off for awhile but it got worse so I finally made an appointment. The scheduler made me an appointment with Dr. Nephew. I was nervous and I don't like change but I went to the appointment and explained what had been going on. Dr.Nephew did not just send me home and tell me to try different things instead she immediately scheduled me for certain tests. Within a week of seeing her they found a tumor inside of me bigger than a softball and she lead me in the right direction to have it removed. I am now a week out of surgery and even though she didn't do the surgery she called and checked on me. Dr.Nephew is smart, caring, compassionate, she listened to me without brushing anything off and figured out exactly what was wrong with Me. I feel so thankful to have found such a great doctor right away after my other doctor retired and will continue to see Dr. Nephew for as long as I can.

So here's the good and the bad... GOOD: This hosptial has absolutely top-notch hospital staff. From the doctors, to the nurses, to the front-desk staff, you will get treated by the best at Altru. Trust me... this is NOT the case at hospitals in other cities. BAD: Patients are forever complaining about billing problems once they have left the hospital. This is SUCH a common complaint about Altru. Also, in order to try and stay financially viable, Altru is demanding more, and more, and more from their employees. This IS starting to have an impact on the quality of care given to patients. Even if you have a fantastic nurse, when he/she is SOOOO busy, they won't be able to give you the best care possible. So, make sure to give compliments to the staff when they are due. And if you DON'T think your care was optimal, send a little letter to the hospital and let them know why you were unhappy. You deserve the best!)

I was super paranoid and needing emergency care from being drugged by a stranger, I remember the…read morenurses not taking me seriously and I overheard them laughing about how I was attention seeking and just smoked too much weed, (which is not true, none of the tests even said I was positive for cannabis) another time, when I was a teen, I had a psychiatrist who found out that I told a nurse my parents were abusive and I was not safe at home, and he laughed in my face about it and brought my parents in and told them. Even if I had been lying, that is 100% not okay and or professional. He also laughed about me trying to overdose, saying I was "retarded" for thinking the meds I had taken would kill me. Then I had another psychiatrist who said I made up my mental illnesses and was faking needing my meds because they lost my records so they didnt have "proof" of me needing any medications. He was also very transphobic, which made me feel even more suicidal. I would not suggest going to altru for anything at any time.

I left a voicemail and a few hours later I called back to see if anyone was available to talk. She said they're too busy and to call the other location. I did and the nurse who answered sent a message to my doctor for approval to send in a prescription. After waiting a couple more hours, I called for an ETA. The nurse who answered said it'd take 24-48 hours to hear back from my doctor. It's been over 3 days now and still haven't heard back. In the meantime I went to Altru urgent care and got a prescription.
