I generally prefer a less homey feel, but the Rose Garden was quite nice. Flowers adorned the entrance and spilled over into a beautiful backyard garden, giving the place a lovely, homey feel. As for breakfast, the breakfast was delicious. It was delicious with just the right balance of decadence and moderation. The first morning we had blueberry waffles, cooked to absolute perfection, with grilled pineapple and a small side of scramble eggs. Lou has a passion for cooking and it is shows through in the breakfast. As for the bed, the bed was, unfortunately, the most uncomfortable I have slept on in recent memory. We stayed in the English Rose Room. We had a roomy king-sized bed, but I had to move to the day bed to sleep because the bed was just too uncomfortable. It was too hard, yet not quite supportive. I am a sensitive sleeper and have a great bed at home, so everyone may not have this experience. I did, however. We found that the problem could be solved by sleeping on top of the blankets for an added level of comfort. I think a feather bed or a new mattress would make this the perfect B&B in Rochester. If you can sleep on a hard, inner-spring mattress, you will absolutely love this place.

They are willing to accommodate any dietary needs - just tell them ahead of time so they can purchase the appropriate food for breakfast. Breakfast is served formally in the dining room (on fine china!) at whatever time you request. You are able to make yourself tea whenever you need, and I was able to use the fridge to store some leftovers I had. I highly recommend spending the extra $15 for the Rose room - the jacuzzi was really nice after a long work day!

The water was clean in some parts and not in others. There were a few large branches we had to avoid. We got a quick good lesson on kayaking before we went into the water; it was very helpful. Our kayaking journey was absolutely beautiful. We passed a whole lot of ducks. They really kept us entertained. We passed a cute park, went through some gorgeous neighborhoods. Overall, there were a lot of trees on the shore by the canal so it felt very serene. I would recommend kayaking here! :)

Last October, when the Fall color was at its peak, I decided to take another canal tour. A lunch tour to lock 32. At the last minute a friend wanted to join me. I called the office, and they were able to accommodate us, but not able to get the lunch for her. We had a blast. We shared the Fairport Lunch, drank seltzer water and beer and shared the boat with a group on a surprise tour that ended on the canal tour. This trip was completely different from my previous one in the opposite direction. The experiences were different and the colors of the foliage enviable; gold, reds, oranges. The weather was perfect, partly cloudy, and then the sun broke and warmth came up and we had a sunny day Toward the end of the ride, the wind started to pick up. Along the way there were historical facts given by the crew. And we sang the famous "Low Bridge" song I was very happy, and my friend was also impressed with the trip. I highly recommend this tour.

I guess that is supposed to add "charm". I was a little concerned as we approached. The house and porch were were covered in peeling paint. I guess that when the house was last painted it was not properly prepped, as it does not seem that it should be peeling that much. I was concerned I hard booked a complete dump. The first impression was definitely NOT impressive. Once inside, things were MUCH nicer. The house was a little stuffy, but we are in that transitional winter/spring period. It's May, but spring has come very late this year. The first nigh, I could not sleep, even with the open window, because I was too hot; the last night, the heat kicked in. I did not see any window air conditioners and the house does not appear to have central air. The weather is in transition so, perhaps there will be air conditioning later in the season. Here are the pros and cons: Pros: * Comfortable bed * Clean * Breakfast was pretty good. The innkeeper cooked for us each day. She served a lot of turkey sausage, which was not very good. Eggs and fruit and yogurt were fine though. * Cute, quaint town with easy access to a trail along Lake Erie. * Fair nightly rate * Friendly innkeeper. Cons: * Lots of clutter. I guess some people find it charming to have old yellowed period clothing and photos in the room. I do not. There were also lots of chairs to trip over in the common space. There were also way too many pillows, both on the bed and the chairs in the room. * Ticking clock next to the bed. This made it impossible to sleep. I eventually had to hide the clock to sleep. Who puts a ticking clock in a bedroom? * The nightlight in the bathroom was far too bright and was disruptive to sleep. It eventually had to be moved. I think we'd come back, but we'd need to be very specific in our breakfast requests or just plan to eat elsewhere. I'd also have to bring a nightlight.
