There are many tours that take you to places but I found a very 'humane' element in Portage tours. Susan and Jeff are really nice and courteous hosts. I was all set to take an Uber to get to the start location but Susan told me that they'd pick me up from my home! It's very rare to see that level of courtesy in today's times where everything is about profits. They even dropped me home after the tour. Loved them. Susan is very knowledgeable about wines. Gave us a good lesson on what wine constitutes of and how we need to swirl, smell, move the wine in the mouth and think. It was funny when we tried doing all of that and forgot a step or two and just guzzled it down without any thinking:) The bus is well equipped. Jeff is a safe driver. I also got a discount because the tour that I booked in Sept didn't happen bec of the weather. I forgot to apply the discount code but Susan remembered and gave me some cash back. Very professional and helpful. We visited 3 vineyards and had lunch at a nice restaurant. It wasn't hurried. The pace was great. None of us were too tipsy with wine. The climate was fabulous! Highly recommend this group! They know their business but they are also very people friendly. Great combination!! :)

Went on the "Tour De Beer" with some friends over the weekend. The Portage Tours crew did an amazing job with this tour! The first stop was the Genesee Brew House where our group tried some of their delicious brews and got a great tour of their pilot batch system. So cool! We next went to Fifth Frame, one of the cities newest breweries where we tried some of the best local beer I have ever had. After that we went to Lost Borough and Three Heads and enjoyed flights at each. At Three Heads, a knowledgable brewery employee gave us a tour of the brewery and told us about the history of Three Heads! The crew at Portage Tours did an incredible job putting together this tour! The bus was super comfortable and there were complimentary snacks and water bottles for guests. There was even a specially designed compartment on the bus where I could store a growler I picked up at one of the breweries! They though of EVERYTHING! The tour guide, Jeff was extremely personable and very knowledgeable about both craft beer in Rochester and Rochester culture and history, which was carefully woven into the tour. I can't say enough about how great this was. Great people, great breweries. An absolutely amazing time I will never forget! Cheers!

Hit wineries, a distillery and a brewery which was nice. Driver (Darryl) was a very nice guy even if he forgot my name and started calling me 'Steve' halfway through. That was pretty funny for the guys even if it was at my expense. Bus had plenty of room too, and we stayed on schedule without it being overbearing or annoying. Price point was fair given this was a 1/2 day tour with food/alcohol included. Brewery and distillery options couldn't have been better. Wagner brewing makes one of the best examples of hefeweizens I've had anywhere. Really great tap room overlooking the lake as well. Got a cheese plate there which was packed like shit in to-go containers, which belied the really good array of cheese, meat and accoutrements it included. Finger Lakes distilling was shockingly good. Their repertoire of whiskeys, including aged options, different styles (ie: pot stilled, applejack) and experiment stuff (cannoli whiskey) was superb. Had whiskey infused cigars here too which were awesome. I bought a shit ton of stuff from their. Surprisingly, I wasn't as thrilled with the wineries. Zugibe was respectable but paled to others nearby like Thirsty Owl; what threw me off was that the reds were much better than the whites there. Food there was gyros, which was odd but oddly good at least. Belhurst was probably the worst single winery I've ever been to, with the worst wine I've tried. Wine had a soapy taste and was cloyingly sweet. Bartender was snotty, rattled off some canned crap she memorized that was largely irrelevant, and didn't really know anything about wine. Place was largely a freaking gift shop, so no clue why they thought this was a good addition. Would use these guys again as Darryl was a sweetheart, and maybe just direct them a bit more in terms of what we're looking for. I am 100% fine with the emphasis being on beer/liquor, however the groom-to-be was more of a wine person in this case. Very workable either way.

I had originally considered the Hampton, and 15 days before my arrival in Rochester, I discovered The Inn. It had a comparable price but maybe not as much breakfast choices. Two days later, when I went to make my reservation at the Hampton, I discovered that they raised their room rates 15% since the last time I checked... supply and demand on their part I guess. Well, that made The Inn rate more than competitive, and the obvious choice for my stay. The Inn does offer a light continental breakfast, but they offer some things I wouldn't have gotten elsewhere. One was the charm of an older building with nice renovations. My room had more "character" than I would have had otherwise, and that included a large antique bathtub and a gas fireplace. Every person with whom I interacted was incredibly friendly and helpful. Vanni's Lounge downstairs was fun as well (separate review). And I got a slight discount for having a 3rd night in my reservation on a weeknight. I think that was a fair trade-off for missing out on a few Honors points.

Recently enjoyed a delightful stay at The Inn on Broadway…read more Truly, what a gem of an inn. I was traveling for work and was meant to fly from White Plains to Rochester mid week. However, the stormy weather had my flight delayed, delayed, delayed. Seeing that I'd be pulling into Rochester later and later, I decided to see about driving. This got me to Rochester earlier in the evening but I was pooped. The Inn on Broadway offered a warm welcome after a hectic day of travel. They have easy parking very close to the entrance (felt very safe). They offer valet if you're heading there for the restaurants but they don't valet for guests of the inn. Again, not a big deal because the parking is so convenient. The lobby is gorgeous. I was there during the holidays and it was tastefully decorated and brought the festive vibes. The woman at the front desk was excessively kind and got me all checked in. I was tired and really just wanted to order deliver (doordash etc) to my hotel room. I wasn't certain if this was ok with the restaurant in house but fortunately, she assured me it was fine and even hand delivered my door dash order to my room (in addition to giving me recommendations for a garbage plate, a Rochester specialty--I still haven't had one but my next visit I'm determined!) My room was completely comfortable. It was the perfect size to feel cozy without being too small. There was a window seat by the window which offered a nice view of the city. I love that they have Aveda shampoo, conditioner, and body wash in the shower (as well as lotion and hand soap by the sink). Aveda is top notch and it's nice not to sacrifice quality hair care while traveling. I honestly have nothing but the best things to say about my stay here and wouldn't hesitate to stay again. Get to it!

The AC was running in the common areas, though it wasn't particularly strong. Unfortunately, the gym had no working air at all. That said, the unit in my room worked very well, and the ceiling fan over the bed made a big difference in keeping things cool overnight. The studio layout was thoughtful, with clean furniture and a comfortable setup that made it easy to settle in for a few days. The property is set back from major roads, so it was nice and quiet throughout my stay. The breakfast bar was well stocked and about what you'd expect. Staff were friendly, transparent about any issues, and genuinely apologetic where needed. The entry and lounge areas were also nicely designed and welcoming. I'd definitely consider staying here again.

The suite is great if you have toddlers because the large pullout sofa bed is comfortable and you and the kids rooms are separated by a door. 2. I loved having the full kitchen setup with a full refrigerator instead of a mini fridge. 3. There were enough outlets around for me to plug my many things into without having to use an extension cord. 4. The TV had our name on it and a lot of the streaming apps already available. 5. The complimentary breakfast area was spacious and the food was good. Nothing really stood out specifically though. It was your typical waffle maker, scrambled eggs, cereal, and coffee type of bar. Looked very clean though. 6. The nice sturdy crib was a plus! 7. The recycling bins in our room was an unexpected pleasantry along with the neat trash/recycling bins in each hallway. 8. If you forget an item in one of the rooms and can't drive back to get it, they can ship it to you. I left my 10lb laptop bag with cables, hard drives, etc. Through FedEx I got it back in 4 days. Cons: 1. The master bedroom was not the biggest space. I didn't have a ton of trouble getting around but it just would've been nicer to have more space. The living room area was spacious though. 2. Although I eventually got my lost item back, it wasn't the easiest process. At one point they told us it wasn't there at all. It took hours for someone to confirm the location of my laptop backpack. They should have walkie talkies to improve communication 3. There's not a lot of good shaded parking spaces. So if you're coming in the summer, be prepared! Your car will become a sauna! 4. The bathroom door was waaay too close to the toilet. You basically can't open or close it all the way without hitting your legs. It was EXTREMELY frustrating! They really need to fix that.
