Saturday afternoon fun! Buy your ticket and hop aboard for Flights N' Bites (or whichever Portage tour you're considering). Drinks, food, adventure, and new friends - everything is included. We were celebrating our anniversary, another couple was celebrating a birthday, others were simply exploring... We started with private tour/tasting @ a distillery, sipped yummy hard cider flights, and enjoyed craft beer tasting at a microbrewery - with snacks along the way. in addition to being very gracious hosts, Jeff & Susan (owners and guides), showed us historic places, beautiful wall art, and shared some unique Rochester history. This is a fairly new business that does tours for the Finger Lakes for the Wine Trail, Cider, Beers and a Boilermaker Tour. We went on a tour of a three places in Keuka Lake. You can purchase your tickets on line you can get a group or a few of you go. That's the beauty of it.. Our guides are fabulous Susan a Level One Sommeiller knows her stuff and can talk to all about the local wines and about wine and makes it accessible for novices as well as oenophiles. We did a few tastings on the bus to understand about how wine tastes, with acid, tannins and etc and tried a few wines as well. It's a larger passenger bus and here's the thing most vineyards don't like busses even one of this size coming in, Susan had to talk to these vineyard owners and some she already knew. So this is for a adults meaning this is not a "drunk bus" ok... since they know(the vineyards or the like) know you are coming you basically get a private tastings and are not with the general population. If going the Kueka Lake way you will be stopping for lunch and you will order prior so it will be ready for your visit. They go to The Olney Place for lunch. You will go to the Parking lot at St John Fisher College to get the bus and you're on your way. This is a great way to go if your not from the area sure it's going to cost you but think of it this way, you do not have to drive yourself, you have snacks, water on the bus and basically you are getting a private tasting. I love that you don't have to get a whole group together to take one of the Portage tours. You only buy the number of tickets you need. The calendar for tastings is on their website. There are many different tours of different lengths to choose from that involve wine, beer, and liquor. I did the wine tour which is 6 hours. Our guides Jeff and Susan carefully chose 3 wineries for us to enjoy. The wineries were all top-notch and included Keuka Springs, Ravines, and MacGeegor's. I consider myself to be picky about wines and they all had really great options. We stopped for lunch at Olney Place after the 1st winery. The tour bus was very nice. It sat 14 of us and had storage to lock up bags and purchases. Jeff drove the bus while Susan did a little wine tasting course with us in the back. I know some things about wine and I enjoyed this. It was great for all tasting levels. Then we drank some wine! We tried different wines to assess their qualities of sweet, acidic, and tannins. This was a really great tour and I think it's worth the money. read more

There are many tours that take you to places but I found a very 'humane' element in Portage tours. Susan and Jeff are really nice and courteous hosts. I was all set to take an Uber to get to the start location but Susan told me that they'd pick me up from my home! It's very rare to see that level of courtesy in today's times where everything is about profits. They even dropped me home after the tour. Loved them. Susan is very knowledgeable about wines. Gave us a good lesson on what wine constitutes of and how we need to swirl, smell, move the wine in the mouth and think. It was funny when we tried doing all of that and forgot a step or two and just guzzled it down without any thinking:) The bus is well equipped. Jeff is a safe driver. I also got a discount because the tour that I booked in Sept didn't happen bec of the weather. I forgot to apply the discount code but Susan remembered and gave me some cash back. Very professional and helpful. We visited 3 vineyards and had lunch at a nice restaurant. It wasn't hurried. The pace was great. None of us were too tipsy with wine. The climate was fabulous! Went on the "Tour De Beer" with some friends over the weekend. The Portage Tours crew did an amazing job with this tour! The first stop was the Genesee Brew House where our group tried some of their delicious brews and got a great tour of their pilot batch system. So cool! We next went to Fifth Frame, one of the cities newest breweries where we tried some of the best local beer I have ever had. After that we went to Lost Borough and Three Heads and enjoyed flights at each. At Three Heads, a knowledgable brewery employee gave us a tour of the brewery and told us about the history of Three Heads! The crew at Portage Tours did an incredible job putting together this tour! The bus was super comfortable and there were complimentary snacks and water bottles for guests. There was even a specially designed compartment on the bus where I could store a growler I picked up at one of the breweries! They though of EVERYTHING! The tour guide, Jeff was extremely personable and very knowledgeable about both craft beer in Rochester and Rochester culture and history, which was carefully woven into the tour. I can't say enough about how great this was. Great people, great breweries. An absolutely amazing time I will never forget! Cheers! read more

All around excellent time! Went to four different local breweries and tried some different tastes of Rochester that I thoroughly enjoyed! The tour bus was comfortable and clean and also provided us with snacks and water in between stops, and our guide was both knowledgeable and personable. Jeff made the ride enjoyable. Would recommend to anyone who has a thirst to try local, and also hear a few historical facts about our lovely city. I would love to try it again on their flights and bites tour, its well worth the price. read more

"We aren't a drunk bus." Susan and Jeff wanted a touring bus to showcase history and alcohol and that's what I saw on their wine tour. It was so interesting to hear from Susan, who is a level one Somm, about wine. She broke down wine into four parts for us to sample and discover what makes wine, wine. She even had sample glasses of good verse great wine. Her knowledge and history of wine is really interesting. It got even better at the winery stops because the wineries knew we were coming and weren't there to just try wines. The wineries took us into a separate location away from the tasting rooms and had a presentation for us. We got to try wine beyond a normal tasting. Susan informed us that they have other tours as well; brewery and distillery tours. I am particularly interested in the Double Broilmaker tour. I really hope that Jeff and Susan can get more wineries, breweries, and distilleries on board with their ideas and expand their touring career. read more

Great brewery tour!!! Four different breweries, all unique in style... A nice sized flight at each stop, the water and snacks on the bus were a nice and well needed addition by the end! The historical facts, and tid bits of info about landmarks around Rochester from our driver/tour guide Jeff, made it a fun ride. My husband and I had such a great time on our Portage Tours Flights-n-Bites tour. It was such a fun way to spend time together and with friends while learning more about Rochester's food and beverage scene. Getting to see behind-the scenes at Black Button Distillery was my favorite part because I really didn't know much about that process beforehand. Plus, all the delicious local craft beverages, ciders and snacks were delicious. I'm not sure what was in that goat cheese at Swiftwater, but I want more of it, like right now, like all the time!!! The hosts/owners of Portage are kind and worked very hard to make sure we all had a great time. They even shared some unknown Rochester facts with us along the way... Franklin Lloyd Wright designed a home in the Park Ave. district - who knew??? Plus, the tour bus was very clean and had a place for us to store everything from extra snacks, to bags and growlers!
