Roc Pedal Tours is a great addition to Rochester. I love the fact that you can play your own music and pedal the night away with passerbys honking and screaming love and support to us. I've been debating on whether to rate the experience 3 or 4 stars for 1 big reason; 2 hours just isn't enough time. We were only given ~30 minutes at each bar and felt rushed all the time. I was able to have 1 drink at each place, which is nice, but I had to drink them quickly. The reason I shied away from 3 stars is because it is a great time and I would definitely do it again. I think the company should offer 3 hour tours. I'd have no problem paying a couple more bucks for a longer, more relaxed experience. read more

I've been sitting on this review for awhile because it's a bit... awkward. But here goes! I'll preface this by saying I did my first pedal tour last summer and our driver was amazing. After our last stop/as we biked back to the meeting spot he classily pointed out the tip jar and everyone was eager to throw money in. Furthermore, if he HADN'T pointed out the jar we would have sought it out because the service was that wonderful. Now onto my recent experience... a group of coworkers and I got together for an outing and the tour itself was a blast. Bars were so much fun, the time on the bike was structured in solid intervals, and everyone was sad when it was over. However, even before the tour started I was put off by the driver. As the organizer I was told I would receive a phone call the week of to discuss my route. The day before the tour I realized I never got that call, so naturally I called them. I believe it was the owner who got back to me (and who also ended up being our driver the next day) and I immediately found his tone condescending. I understand that the employees give the same instructions many times a day and often deal with rowdy/drunk customers but I don't think that's an excuse to talk to everyone as if you're reciting from a script and with the tone of a parent talking to a child. I mentioned it to a couple coworkers but they convinced me I was reading too much into it so i let it go... Until the day of the tour when 3 people came up to me at the first bar and said "wow I can't stand the way he's talking to us!" and I knew I wasn't crazy. Fast forward to the end of the tour. Again, I want to reiterate that everyone had fun, but it really had nothing to do with the driver. That being said, no one was begging for the tip jar. Nor did he pass it around or point it out. After we finished and got off the bike I remembered to look for the jar and went and threw a decent tip in simply out of principle. I didn't think much of it and I went on to spend time with my coworkers. Not even 15 minutes later I received a text from the owner not-so-subtly telling me he expected more of a tip. Essentially he said "an $8 tip for 12 people made me want to check" that everyone had a good time. I was absolutely floored. First off, at least 3 others (in addition to me) said they put a $5 in there, so I have no idea where his figure came from or why he thought it was appropriate to word it like that. But bottom line for me was how could someone feel so entitled to extra compensation when they couldn't even bear to speak to the customer respectfully? Not to mention you can't expect 12 people under the influence to notice the tip jar all the way at the front seat of the bike at the END of the excursion. Overall I found the whole thing uncomfortable and unprofessional. I'd love to do a pedal tour again, but i would likely take my business elsewhere. It seems like this is a very rare bad service experience and I hope that remains the case. read more

Went on a Pedal Tour on 7/13 and we had a blast! After I was a passenger on a tour in April, I couldn't wait to schedule my own for this summer. I used it as a great opportunity to involve my colleagues and staff as a "staff development" day. We had an absolute blast! Phil was our tour guide and he did a great job. Yes, there are rules, but there is still plenty of fun to be had. Any reviewers who complain about the rules are likely to do so only because they got too drunk and/or belligerent. The organizer gets several email and verbal communications from the company ahead of time that explain the rules and limitations. It clearly states in the email that it's the organizer's responsibility to relay the guidelines to the other passengers. I made sure to do that and as such, everything went off without a hitch! Honestly, it was the best staff development event we've ever done. Our staff have been raving about it for the last two days. I would recommend Rochester Pedal Tours to anyone! read more

My co-workers (13 of us in total) planned an architectural Rochester Pedal tour for the social portion of our staff retreat day. Phil, the owner, was SO incredibly flexible with us and our scheduling needs (normally they have afternoon tours at 1 or 3:30 but he allowed us to have ours at 2:30 instead). This is a REALLY cool way to see Rochester in a new way. We brought drinks, enjoyed a PERFECT sunny day (though he assured us that we could still do a tour even if it rained!), and even got in a little exercise (yes - this was HARD WORK for my massively out of shape self). Our driver was excellent! The owner, Phil, however, had a very off putting way about him from the start, and at the end of the tour charged at my friend, physically made contact with him, and accused him of having an open container when coming off the bike and attempting to leave after the tour (which he did not, and both completely sealed cans were shown to him). He continued to be very aggressive without reason, and so it is safe to say I will never be back. The concept is great, and our driver was excellent, but unfortunately it is under poor ownership. I had fun on this pedal your but that was only because of the company of my group. Our bike leader, Phil, was rude and aggressive the minute we showed up to the tour. We were berated upon arriving about "breaking the rules" but never received rules before the tour, which was made to be our fault instead of the company's. Really great idea but could use some finesse. I was on a bachelorette party and it was overall a fun time but there were some things that were kind of off putting. The positives are that Jessie the tour guide was great - he was really fun and helpful and took lots of pictures for us. Everyone had a great time drinking, singing, pedaling and laughing. The downsides though were that the bars we went to were kind of sketch. ROC Brewing was fine and so was Victoire, but you had to drive through a construction zone to get to them. Richmonds was our final stop, and the chicken wings we ordered weren't ready, and overly eager DJ almost jumped on our bike the second we pulled up to tell us about his music, and it just seemed really divey on the inside. The meeting place at Marshall's was also not great - someone in our party got mugged while they were waiting for a taxi. So ladies, be careful if you're by yourself. Overall the tour just felt a little rushed, and the bike itself could use a better storage system - we had quite a few things come flying down from the overhead compartments. Also, you may be a little sore the next day! I'd do it again, but look into planning a better route next time. read more

Definitely one of the most fun things you can do around the city! My parents even loved it! The smaller bike only had 2 adjustable seats, so I could barely reach the pedals (in a non-adjustable seat), and I'm 5'6" with a long torso (short legs!). This didn't detract from the fun at all, but I definitely preferred when I went on the larger bike and all seats adjusted! If you're hesitant, I suggest you follow their Facebook page to see when they are having mixers. This way, you and a friend or two can try it out before booking the whole bike! If I could give this place zero stars I would. They posted about an accident where mental health was made into a joke to gain more followers. A "business" about pedal tours has so right to be commenting and sharing FALSE information they do not know anything about. Will be sure to share with everyone I know about how this business is not supportive of mental health and how poorly they handled the situation after the victims family member called to complain about the incorrect information. Once again, Rochester Pedal Tours delivered a great night out. Our group plans annual pedal tours through this company, and they continue to impress us! Our driver, Mike, had good instincts, and called ahead to bars to ensure they weren't too crowded for our large group. We ended up re-routing to Swillburg and BeerPark. It went smoothly and honestly these bars were probably more fun than the original plan! At BeerPark, the pedal bus pulled right into the open-air bar, which was pretty awesome. Our group of friends went on a Pedal Tour for a birthday celebration and had a great time! Our tour guide (can't remember his name, sorry!) was great. You can hook up your iPod/phone to play your own music, so make sure to create a good playlist to jam out to while you pedal! Never again will I do a pedal tour if it has to be with Phil. He was downright aggressive and demeaning from the minute he showed up. He was a stickler for rules, demanding we dump our drinks we had brought from home (since they were opened on the sidewalk) before getting on the bike. He said we weren't allowed to bring drinks from the bar on the Bike, which we clearly didn't! We showed him they were from our cooler and he wouldn't have anything to do with what we were saying. He really put a damper on our fun by being a pompous, gestapo like driver. Words of wisdom Phil, if you want to have a successful business (since he's the owner! Jaw drop) start putting your customers first and ditch the power trip. Seems to be everyone has the same feelings. Someone needs to take a hint. read more

Let me start out by saying, that the bike pedal tour was a great way to get my friends together and have a great night. It's an excellent way to visit a bunch of cool bars without having to worry about having a designated driver. We were able to bring our own beverages on the bike ride and got discounts at all the bars that we went to. We had so much fun and I look forward to doing another pedal tour. That being said, the problem with my experience was our driver. When we first arrived, it was very clear that Phil was not excited about having to give us this pedal tour nor did he seem to even really like his job at all. He was rude to me, rude to my friends, throughout the entire tour. We weren't exactly the quietest bunch, but Phil seemed to really be bothered by us, constantly telling us to be quiet, calm down, and just generally putting a stop to all of our fun. I plan to do another pedal tour in the future, but never if it is with Phil. read more

I have been on 3 pedal tours since they started , one with Phil the owner and two with Brian. The pedal tour itself is a ton of fun and worth going on but I would request not to have Brian. The first tour I gave Brian a break thinking maybe it was an off day or he was just annoyed but 15 drunk girls. My most recent tour Brian was again a total jerk and wouldn't even let us play music the whole way home so we rode in silence. His inappropriate comments like "I'm gonna fuck you up" was not funny or "shut the hell up" was a damper on our fun time especially not allowing us to have music! I was the oldest/sober one on this tour for my little cousins 21st birthday and she was disappointed. read more

We had a wonderful time celebrating my brother and sister in law's anniversary on the pedal tour. We had 2 bike and had so much fun. I would definitely recommend doing a pedal tour if you are celebrating an event or just looking for a team building event for your work. Everything went smoothly and worked out well. Reading over the do's and don't as well as other blog posts on their website really helped everything to go smoothly as well as getting the call ahead of time for outlining out potential route. I really appreciated that the driver I spoke to (Bryan (if i spelled it right)) helped with figuring out what would be the best route to go so that 1) we all had a good time and 2) didn't feel rushed. His suggestion was the perfect way to feel as if we did a brewery tour to all stops (we did one brewery and 2 brewpubs). I look forward to doing another tour again in the future. read more

I've done one pedal tour before and had a great time. Yesterday I went on my second for a birthday party. Our driver was Phil, who is the owner. I was very dissatisfied with his behavior toward a friend on the tour with us. After the third bar, he ask the friend how much he weighed. Which is not appropriate in any situation. He said that the suspension of the seat could not hold more than 250 lbs. I have never heard of this before so I double checked the website. There is absolutely no mention of a weight limit. My friend was humiliated. As the tour ended, this friend got off the bike and was waiting around the corner where the company houses their bikes. There was an empty bike next to us. He calls out to the friend and says "Help her push that in." He does, and then Phil jumps of the bike and goes to him and says "you're not doing it right" and pushes it himself. First of all, you should not be ordering around a customer, and then tell him he's doing it wrong, especially after insulting that same person earlier. This is the owner of the business! This is how you treat your customers? Phil's attitude the whole night was rude. Our group then proceeded to a bar on park ave. About 15 minutes later, who shows up? Phil. "I thought I'd come hang out with you guys." First off, no one invited you. Secondly, that is super creepy. Thankfully he left after about ten minutes as no one from our group wanted to talk to him after the way he treated our friend. I am absolutely disgusted by his behaviors. I am baffled by this behavior from the owner of a business. I have never written a yelp review before, but felt it was necessary after the events of this evening. I will no longer be giving him my business. read more

So much fun! It's like a workout where you get to drink. They will adjust your tour for what you want to do. We took a tour to roc brewery, half pint, and the strathallan but you can bike wherever you want. We had Jesse as our "tour guide" and he was great. 5 stars for sure! Our group went on a Pedal Tour on 8/7 to celebrate a few Birthdays and we all had a blast! Our driver Jesse was fantastic, he was flexible (we changed our route at the last minute) and kept everyone laughing and having fun. The only complaint that I have was that a few of the bartenders were a bit rude and acted as if they were bothered by all of us walking in at the same time. Maybe giving them a heads up would help, I don't know but its a bit of a downer when you walk into a bar and get attitude. The starting point at Marshall Street pub was ok. The parking lot was very sketchy on a Sunday afternoon, none of us felt comfortable leaving our cars there. Our first stop was at Murphy's Law which was fun. The bartender served our drinks quickly but did not seem happy to see all of us walk in together, we then went to Victoire which was a complete downer. One of the bartenders was so rude and miserable. We were a loud & fun group but not obnoxious or rude in any way so I am not sure what warranted her attitude. Our last stop was Havana Cabana which was awesome! The bartender & other staff where so much fun! I would highly recommend stopping there & trying their dirty banana shots, so good! All in all I would highly recommend the pedal tour especially if you have a fun group of people to go with. read more

The ONLY thing that could've made this tour better is if it had been a bit longer. The basic tour that we got was 2 hours long and we all felt like we could've spent more time in some of the bars (we had 20-30 minutes each one). I feel like that could be a big moneymaker for them too if there was an option to add an hour for a fee. We definitely would've taken them up on that offer! The tour itself was a lot of fun! Our driver, Doug, was awesome. I was very stressed out initially, because we were celebrating a surprise party for my boyfriend and the person bringing him was running late. Doug was super laid back and flexible with our route which really helped bring me down from birthday bridezilla to normal human. He also hooked us up at Swillburger Playhouse with a giant cup of tokens for us to play the games! Really cool guy, I would definitely recommend him to others! I have used Rochester Pedal Tours for an outing for my co-workers the last two summers now. Last summer was a blast, our tour driver was a blast letting us spend extra time on the bike, even hanging out with us at the bar afterward! Did another pedal tour a few weeks ago with a different tour guide this time. They did call the day before, very polite, went over everything and helped me pick out the route. When we met at the starting spot, the tour guide did mention the fact of us not bringing a cooler in somewhat of a condescending manner that my co-workers picked up on as well. I mentioned the fact that when we brought one last time, it ended up being more of an annoyance and that we would hold on to our drinks and had room in bags, etc, that would go on top of bike. One of the downsides I have noticed both years is that the time at the actual stops is very limited. I'm aware that there is a schedule to adhere too but its also hard to gather up 13 people in larger bar to get everyone out to the bike, so getting multiple texts/calls about coming back to the bike is not enjoyable. You could tell by end of night the tour guide was annoyed to say the least, and dealing with not-sober people is always the most fun, but that also comes with the job. The tour guide did take multiple pictures for us, and I believe we left a generous tip, just wish the guides vibe was little more group friendly. Will definitely be doing another tour next summer with this group! read more

My friends and I were very excited about this part of a bachelorette party and had heard really good things about this pedal tour. Upon arriving to meet up with the bike, we had brought a styrofoam cooler of beer to bring on the tour with us, as is allowed. Phil was immediately very rude and dismissive of our group about having brought the beer and allowed us no room to have a conversation with him about it. Regardless of the situation, we tried to speak to him respectfully and in a calm manner in order to resolve his concerns and he continued to be rude and combative. After we continued on our way with the tour, he followed us to one of the brewery stops and, completely unprovoked, told us we were being rowdy and loud, while no one at the bar seemed to be insulted by our presence. I understand that as a business owner Phil has a reputation to protect and can conduct his business how he sees fit. However, there was no reason for him to treat us as he did without approaching us in a calm and professional manner. Unfortunately, it set the tone for our entire night and it was difficult to enjoy what should have been a fun celebration. read more
