I knew I'd have to make a stop here on my way home. I love that this small station is so close to all the sights of Saltaire. The Visitor Information Centre is across the street from the station and next to that is the Salts Mill which is now a fantastic gallery of David Hockney's works, an artist's shop, a book shop, a restaurant, and so much more! You'll have to go across to the Salts Mill if you need a drink or snack. This station is so small, there really is nothing there but the train tracks and covered waiting areas on both sides.

It has the largest free Railway car park in the Country which holds over 500 cars, 2 waiting rooms on the platforms and a large waiting room where the booking office is It also has a large Vending machine , A Free water dispenser to fill your water up and two large toilets which are cleaned daily , male and female and fully disabled compliant.

The station has bike racks and a car park. It's staffed occasionally but doesn't have a dedicated ticket office and the station buildings are now not in use. However, it does have electronic ticket machines. There are seats but no covered waiting areas, so bring an umbrella if you're using the station on a rainy day. There's also a bit of an access issue here; the platforms are accessed by steps and there are no lifts so passengers with disabilities may need help in getting to the platforms.

As you can see from the pictures I've added this is a very picturesque and authentic station. We went in Summer so the weather was great and the station was fairly busy. You can stand on a nearby footbridge and watch the steam train come in and get a smell of smoke and steam as it passes underneath. This is the first "real" train I've seen in action and it was very impressive. I didn't travel on the itself but the prices were reasonable. Instead I bough a couple of platform tickets so we could have a look around. I don;t know if it's been used in any films but it certainly could be. If you're planning on making a pilgrimage to the Bronte Parsonage Museum in Haworth via train, then you'd have to pass through Keighley. I alighted here from Leeds and walked next door to the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway Station to take the steam train to Haworth. I had some time before my train, so the attendant suggested I have tea at Cafe Choux Choux next to the train station. It's a nice size station so there is a ticket counter, and trains to Leeds every half hour.

Until that lottery win comes in though I'll have to settle for a fleet of Vespas. Whilst they are getting their service, it's back to the board and public transport ago. Leeds is pretty well covered on the main buse routes and West Yorkshire Metro are the main suppliers. Now we all grumble about the service and standard in this country but I have to say Metro aren't half bad. What I will rave about is the free city centre buses, excellent. Metro's freecitybus links Leeds' rail and bus stations, business and shopping districts, the General Infirmary, Universities and Park Lane College. Not half bad Jack, especially as they run every few minutes from 6.30am till 7.30pm. You'll also find plenty of buses taking you to the outskirts of the city. Particularly handy if you want to venture to the football at Elland Road or the rugby and cricket at Headingley. They aren't perfect, but hell what is these days. However, after a day hitting the shops or getting home from work you really can't slam the service they provide.
