Apparently dentists don't like to accept medical insurance - only dental insurance. And when I pulled into Dr. Ruderman's office parking lot, I inwardly groaned. It's just not an attractive building, there's a dumpster in front of the building, and the concrete in the parking lot of cracked. The interior also looks like it hasn't been decorated in decades. BUT...! Dr. Ruderman was such a good doctor/dentist that I now understand the amazing reviews despite the dreary décor. It sounds silly writing this, but he actually read my medical chart, and asked me questions about it. We actually had rapport. Noticing my discomfort with the procedure, he joked around about my employer in the news and the terrible taste of the anesthesia. And when my medical results came in, Dr. Ruderman personally called me to inform me of the results (they were good) and explain what they meant. What a novel concept - I'm used to having to dial in myself and then listen to a prerecorded message. My only pang of sadness is that I live so far from Dr. Ruderman. If I lived closer, I would come to Dr. Ruderman for all my dental needs!

The docs here have been great, no issues at all with the care offered. The administrative support is a lot less competent, though. I get it that if the insurance screws up and can't get their pre-auth done timely that I will have to front the entire cost of the procedure. I paid cash to avoid a 4% surcharge to use a credit card. And when insurance screws up again and sends the reimbursement to this office instead of directly to me, I don't need the snippy attitude of the office staff. Your office ignored the finding that proper documentation had not been provided for one claim, yet you told me that it was not covered, when I am staring at the EOB saying that it was denied because more documentation is needed. So then you state that you cannot provide my refund because I am requesting that the required documentation be sent in for ths one line so I can be reimbursed for it, because the entire claim has to be reprocessed and you can't do the refund until it has all been settled. So then why didn't your office send in the documentation months ago when you were notified about it? You offered this explanation twice and then got snippy when I interrupted you on the third time through this ridiculous statement. You berated me for interrupting you, three or four times, when I don't have the time to listen to you prattle on with your long-winded excuses for not refunding my money. And then refused to move on, and hung up on me. Never heard of customer service, have you? You are not right. You were not right about the one line being refused because it was not covered, and I guess it rattled you when I called you on being wrong about that. If your accounting dept has a policy of not refunding pre-payments until all questions have been settled on a claim, then they should not be so adamant about requiring full prepayment for procedures. Or maybe they should pay more attention to the reason that some line items were denied instead of just blaming it all on "your insurance doesn't cover this". It is hard enough to deal with the insurance company to get them to re-process the claim in the first place, I should not then have to argue with the provider's office to get the refund that was sent to them in error because of the insurance incompetence. If this is the level of admin support for the office then I may have to reconsider ever returning there. I have to say this is the first time I have had this type of issue with this office, interactions with other employees have been very good. Even when answers have not been what I wanted to hear they have been delivered in a professional manner. Maybe the practice can stop this one employee from staining their generally positive reputation.

My only two gripes are the following: 1) I believe I filled out all the forms online before arriving, but those were somehow lost and I had to use their iPad to fill them out again. It took maybe 20 mins in total, and there's a lot of info to provide on your first visit. Maybe check on the online process to see what broke and why my info didn't come through? 2) I think someone may have called out sick that day on their staff, as it appeared that they were double booked throughout the AM. After being seated in the back, I had to wait 20-30 mins for a dental assistant to come back and do my cleaning. It was worth the wait as she did one of the best and most in-depth cleanings of my life, so please give her a raise! That being said, had I known ya'll were double booked in the AM, I might have come in a bit later than scheduled if I knew that morning of the pending delay. That being said, I'd say this place is most definitely where I'm going now that I live in the area. Hands down one of the best dentist offices I've ever been to!

I have been a patient at The Dental Group for over 3 years and unfortunately I can no longer…read morerecommend them after my most recent experience. They do not do well at supporting patients with sensory issues or dental anxiety, or conditions like TMJ that make dental visits difficult. With new patients they are kinder, but with every visit I have made they have become less supportive and less accommodating. My last cleaning was extremely unpleasant and I was shamed into not taking breaks over the course of multiple procedures and fittings even though holding my jaw open causes my TMJ to flare. Then there's the high-pressure upselling. For several years, the dentists and hygienists at this practice have been trying to get me to buy a dental-grade night guard out of pocket, even though I had an over-the-counter one I had been happy with. I finally agreed because they told me it would help my gums and that I would face severe consequences if I did not "make the investment." I had to pay $750 (!!!) out of pocket. When the night guard arrived, it was so bulky and uncomfortable that I could not get a good night's sleep in it and I woke in the morning with severe jaw pain on both sides of my jaw. I went back to have it adjusted and suddenly I was being told that having a night guard means sleeping with your mouth open and accepting dry mouth, that jaw pain often gets worse at first, and that I would have to accept some bad sleep in order to become accustomed to the night guard. I cannot stress enough that this was NOT disclosed to me prior to when I made the purchase. Since the practice knew about my sensory and dental anxiety issues, I feel strongly that they should have talked to me about what the night guard would be like before pushing me to buy it. When I explained the above, the practice offered me only a partial refund, which would mean that I spent hundreds of dollars on nothing. I feel my trust was taken advantage of and I would encourage others to look for a different practice.

My experience with this clinic made me seriously question the integrity of some medical providers. I grew up in a family full of medical providers, so I've always had a lot of respect for them. But being told they "can't read" my scan files and that I needed to pay $450 for another CBCT scan was shocking. I had already taken the scan at another oral surgery clinic that turned out to be out-of-network. That's why I looked for an in-network doctor and ended up here. Before my first appointment, they asked me to bring the scan files. I even asked if there was a specific format they needed because I work with image files and know compatibility can matter. They brushed it off and told me to just bring them. I arrived with the USB and waited almost an hour, only to be told they couldn't read files from USB and needed them on a CD. Sorry, but are we in 2005? They "kindly" offered to take a new scan for $250. I had taken the scan only a week earlier, so I refused. I had to reschedule and even bought a CD burner on Amazon because the original clinic didn't have one. Before my second appointment, I called again to ask about file formats and told them the other clinic had also emailed the files. I even asked if they could call the other clinic since both clinics use the same medical imaging software, which I found very odd. THEY NEVER CALLED THE OTHER CLINIC AND APPARENTLY NEVER CHECKED THE EMAIL. They just kept saying it should work if it's on a CD. So I returned with the CD. After all that effort, they STILL said they couldn't read the files. And now the price for a new scan was suddenly $450. When I got home, I downloaded a free medical imaging viewer and opened the files immediately with no issue. Yes, I -- someone with no experience opening this type of medical imaging format -- was able to open them. I ended up booking another oral surgeon down the street who simply allowed me to upload my existing scans. I still can't understand why this clinic handled things this way. It felt like they cared more about charging for another scan than actually helping patients. Also, thanks for delaying my treatment for weeks and for trying to make me take another X-ray only a few weeks after the first one.

I scheduled an appointment online and not even five minutes later I received a call from the receptionist asking me to come in right now. I explained that I was at work and that wouldn't be possible and asked what was the latest time that I could come and she told me to come at 12. I received a confirmation text that my appointment was at 11:30 so I called and was told that a message will be sent to the practice by central scheduling to verify that it was ok for me to come at 12. I arrived to my appointment around 11:50 and was told that I could not be seen because I was late and my appointment was at 11:30 and they were about to close. The message was never sent to the practice which I understood, but instead of taking accountability, the staff gaslit me and asked me if I was sure that I was told to come at 12. After going back and forth the practice manager offered to schedule another appointment and throw in a free whitening, and I agreed because I needed to have this work done and I was understanding that miscommunications happen. Before leaving I apologized to the staff multipIe times for my frustration and made it clear that I understood miscommunications happen. The next day I arrived for my appointment and I was treated by the entire practice as if I was a problem patient and I could tell that they were not looking forward to servicing me. The practice manager was extremely unprofessional. Both her and the receptionist went back and forth over servicing me and she continued to refer to the receptionist as "Samantha" so that I would not know she was the person I spoke to the day before. When I finally saw the dentist, the actual service was not good. She barely greeted me when she entered the room and acted as if she did not want to service me as well. She did not properly numb me despite multiple attempts and I was extremely uncomfortable for the duration of the service. On top of that the practice manager let me know before the procedure that I would be receiving a discount. After that the receptionist came in and quoted me for the full amount further displaying a lack of communication and professionalism. I've been going consistently since I was a child. I've NEVER encountered such an experience in decades. I diligently arrived 20 minutes prior to my appointment for new patient registration. I was called back 10 minutes after my set time. After X-rays were completed, I sat for 20 minutes before a dentist acknowledged me & performed an evaluation. After that, I waited another 15 minutes & was told that my appointment would have to be rescheduled or I could wait another hour-- HUH?! So at this point I've been here for an hour & 1/2 to be told that my appointment can't be honored, whaaaat?? It was relayed to me that unfortunately they could not finish my appointment so I would have to reschedule for my cleaning & whitening. I'm so perplexed .. I really wanted to love this place. Because of insurance regulations I can't even return to my prior dentist, so I'll be further inconvenienced to set another appointment with MINT.
