I called in and told them exactly what I was looking for and the Lady over the phone told me what type and how many packs of hair to purchase. Making an appointment online was easy you only need a credit card to secure your appt. Finding the salon was a tad tricky. My Gps took me to the Papa John's shopping center but you have to follow the road to the left and go behind the main storefronts to the suites. There is parking in the lot and Essence is on the end when you turn in. Essence of Braiding is more like a hair boutique. The salon is beautifully decorated the ambiance is serene. They had nice smooth music playing which was very relaxing. This salon has all the latest equipment, and thankfully shampoo bowls. I have never had my hair braided and didn't realize that a lot of places expect you to wash your own hair before arriving until I checked around, yet another reason why I love this salon. Not only do they wash your hair but they use great products and the prices are reasonable. Dionne the owner did my Crochet Braids. She is very personable and talks to you the entire time while doing your hair ( if you are a talker like me). She makes sure that your are comfortable and that the braids are not too tight before starting. I chose the Jamaican Bounce Curl hair and she let me know before starting my hairstyle would be big to ensure I was aware of what I was asking for and I told her I love big hair so we were good to go. I absolutely loved my new hairstyle. As soon as I left the salon I received compliments everywhere I went, my crochet braids were a complete hit and I don't think I have ever received so many compliments on a hairstyle before. A very disappointing first time experience at this salon. Music was played way too loud with…read moreexplicit lyrics. My hair color was ruined. I wanted it bleached not damaged. I kind of thought she had no idea what she was doing when she left the bleach in for well over an hour. I left with dry, damaged and over processed hair. The owner attempted to make things right by offering me to come back in and have my hair fixed for a discounted price....but once bitten, twice shy. No way!!!! I will go to actual hair professionals this time. Oh, and when I mentioned to the owner that the stylist was working on at least 6 heads at once (leaving several other clients waiting a very long time), she became defensive as if I was lying. It took my daughter and I 5 hours to get out hair done for basically what should have been a couple hours at best.
