Growing up, I was no stranger to African braiding salons. But as I got older, the tightness and discomfort pushed me toward Black American braiders. Unfortunately, that came with its own trauma: sky-high prices, inconsistent booking, and losing an entire day in someone's chair. I was over it. I knew I needed to return to what I knew--the efficiency and reliability of African braiders. I arrived early on a Monday morning, the first client of the day. I was greeted by one of the braiders and instructed to call the owner, Flower, to confirm my style. I requested medium knotless braids, waist-length, with a custom color mix (1B/30/27). Flower quoted me $250, a fair and honest price considering the style, length, and color. Two braiders worked on me--Sophie and another braider whose name I didn't catch, but it starts with an M based on the sign-in sheet. The shop was clean and everything ran smoothly. My braiders were initially hesitant about the color mix, but once they saw it finished, they loved it and so did I. The braids ended up being a little longer than I anticipated, and the whole process took about 5.5 hours. For the length and quality, I have zero complaints. The braids are neat, the parts are clean, and most importantly, I left without feeling like my scalp was on fire. Tight? A little, but nothing unbearable. Painful? No. I'll definitely be back again. My only issue was with the handling of the braiding hair. At times, the hair would fall to the floor and if it was picked up quickly, I understood. But sometimes it lingered, was stepped on, and still used. I did refuse some hair that had been stepped on, but I don't believe it was thrown out. That's something I'd encourage others to be mindful of. Make sure the hair being installed in your head is being cared for properly. If you're looking for a clean, efficient, no-nonsense braiding experience that gives what it's supposed to give, Flower Atl Braids is your spot.

I called the shop and apparently I was speaking to Flower but didn't know until reading other reviews on Google. I called around 8:50pm asking about getting my hair braided. I sent pictures and was told prices for both pictures Flower stated that my hair could be braided tomorrow morning I explained to her that I had to work tomorrow and didn't want to be late for work she stated I could come tonight and I asked what time she said 9:30pm. I called her on the way cause it stated cash only on Instagram but I found this shop on Google. I stopped at the ATM machine on the way there . I got there and the lady asked what did I want and I said a braided ponytail and she said that would take to long and she couldn't do it tonight I showed her the other style and she said my edges were not thick enough although they were a few weeks ago when I had Goddess braids plus I leave my edges out. I was very upset and called Flower the owner and she took on accountability for her actions. She tried to pretend like she tried to call when we just talked ten minutes or less before arriving to the shop when I called on her BS instead of apologizing or trying to make things right I got more excuses. Flower stated that I don't understand the lady that was there was tired and she was trying to accommodate me by saying that I could get my hair done tonight. I just did 8 hours and I was tired to but since Flower stated my hair could be done tonight I came tired and all. Flower the owner is a liar and very unprofessional and took on accountability for her actions! If this is your shop you should have called to make sure someone could do my hair prior to saying yes. I am percent positive that this yes to doing my hair was only motivated by money and not really caring about your employee because again you could have called her. This is horrible customer service and you didn't even attempt to call me to let me know things changed or even mentioned it to me when I spoke to a few minutes before arriving! I really really wanted this to work out. I did. I'm new to the area and when I saw the positive…read morereviews, I just KNEW I wanted to go here. But I'm not sure where these other reviewers went, but it couldn't have been the same salon! This place is AWFUL. I'm going to go into detail about what's wrong with this place. 1) Not friendly or hospitable: Zenzale (or whatever her name was, she was so secretive about it to the point where she asked me to leave the check blank so she could fill it in) was rude and brisk on the phone, and she is like that in person as well. When I arrived, I went to the front door. Instead of greeting me, she cracked the door and said "Hi, go to the other door please." And slammed it...After walking to the other door, she just opened it with no smile or introduction or anything...just loud shuffling of feet in clogs. 2.) Secretive about location: It might be because this is someone doing hair out of their HOUSE, but when I called a few days after making my appointment to find the address, I got a game of 20 questions before I got an straight answer...and not even really a straight answer. She told me she would text the address to me. Really?? 3.) License?: I don't think this lady actually has a license. It's not displayed anywhere. The "salon" is actually in an extra room in her house. I'm not one to judge that because I've had great service from salons in people's houses, but she has NO professional equipment. No barbicide, no rolling carts, no roll of shears, no set of combs...just a bunch of orange combs you can get at the Dollar Store and a chair to hold her stuff while she's doing hair. 4.) Unprofessional: Had to walk around and pick up toys and little kid's shoes before she actually got started on the hair. After shampooing, just let the excess water drip down my face and shirt before offering me a towel...she didn't even tie one around my neck to keep the water off my shirt. Just handed me a towel. 4) Doesn't know what she's doing: She has natural hair but doesn't seem to know how to style/detangle anyone else's. When I came in, I told her I brought my detangling brush (The Tangle Teezer) to help detangle. She said she would use it, but while washing, used it like a scalp massager and tangled the mess out of my hair....she also used steaming hot water. Not good for hair or scalp in these winter months, especially when I told her before starting that my scalp was dry. Immediately after shampooing, she rubbed my hair down with a towel a way that is a big no-no for naturals, instead of gently wringing it dry--- it's very obvious that it would tangle the hair. She further tangles it by mussing it with her fingers while I'm in the chair. Instead of using my detangling brush, or starting from the ends with her wide-tooth comb and working up, she very literally ripped the comb through my hair, from root to tip. I could hear my hair snapping and breaking. While two strand twisting it, she raked her finger nails through the loose sections, snatching out the tangles as she worked her way down. I'm pretty sure that I've lost most of the hair on the floor from this lazy, rough method. My scalp is sore now too. 7.) Doesn't do as requested: I clearly remember telling her over the phone before the appointment (and in the chair before she started) that I wanted a big, fluffy fro, updo or twist-out. I told her before-hand that I didn't want to keep the twists in because they look scalpy on me and I like big hair. I noticed during all this though that she kept insisting on twists. I thought it was just me. So after my twists dry I fully expect her to actually style my hair. WRONG! She says "All done!" and takes the cape off. I asked if she planned to take them down, and she offered me several excuses as to why I should leave them in, saying I'd have to get back under the dryer, that leaving them in would make a better set....then she asked if I was going home right after. I HAD PLANS THAT NIGHT. IT WAS MY BIRTHDAY. Plans= cancelled. I also asked before-hand if she could show me how much she cut off, and I told her its because some people get scissor happy. She said she would, and showed me on her finger...however, she completely turned me away from the mirror while cutting so I couldn't see what she was doing. I'm so disappointed. For the money I paid, I thought I would get such a great experience. Honestly I feel like crying. The only thing good that came out of this is the awesome smelling products she used in my hair. And also, looking at my hair now it doesn't look like she got crazy with the cutting. SAVE YOUR MONEY AND GO TO A REAL SALON

When I first started going to Paula, my hair was damaged from a previous stylist (tracks and glue, smh), but Paula helped me transition from damage to health with a plethora of protective styles. With sew-ins, she's super quick and uses a hot iron curling rod (idk the proper term) so that the curls hold well for the next few days. With silk presses, she manages to get hair bone straight from root to tip, and once you wash your hair-- if it's natural-- your hair will easily revert to its natural curl pattern. Aside from her hair styling talents, Paula is super friendly and responsive to texts! That's huge. Often you have to continually follow up with a stylist to hear back from them-- not with Paula. She responds promptly and efficiently. I don't live in Atlanta anymore, but if I did I'd still be going to Paula!
