WOULD DEFINITELY recommend (dinner). Came by to celebrate my birthday, had a reservation set via…read moreOpenTable which I recommend doing so (just like any other upscale dining in the city of Chicago). They have so many intimate dining rooms that are sectioned on the first and the second floor along with an outdoor seating area on the second floor. Very beautiful and dramatic decor, very nice bar on the second level, they have both elevator and stairs so plus if you have issues walking up the stairs (e.g. disabilities, wearing heels, etc.). Music was a good level for subtle conversation amongst the table. They have extensive wine and cocktail menu to start off with along with food menu as well. To start, for the cocktails, I had to order my signature Old Fashioned, ordered the "Orange & Rye", which I thought was pretty good, it doesn't taste like a variation of the Old Fashioned given the name. Expected some sweetness, some citrus based on not only the name but the ingredient description on the menu but wasn't the case. Only because I like Old Fashioned, I enjoyed the drink but if you are expecting a nice variation, that wasn't achieved with the drink unfortunately (Rating: 8.2/10). For the bread, they have garlic parmesan flavor and sea-salted bread flavor, I suggest getting both, they both tasted amazing, very big plus to them for their flavors of bread that they offer (and I think they also offer plain if you ask). We also ordered 48 Caesar Salad with Warm Poached Egg, with the poached egg on the side. Salad was alright, had only few bigger crouton pieces, we made good choice for poached egg on the side since it didn't really add to the salad but nonetheless that salad was good, perfect amount of dressing, good to share amongst 2 people (Rating: 8.4/10). For the entrees, ordered the Australian Tajima Grass Fed 12 oz. NY strip with sauteed Broccoli and Shells + Cheese on the side. Getting into the steak, they said the grass-fed NY strip was a little less sweet than the regular NY strip but, in my opinion, it was pretty much similar in terms of how juicy it was compared to the regular 12 oz NY strip (we also order the regular 12 oz to compare the two). Ordered it Medium which was the absolute perfect texture (and is the texture I recommend for this steak). It comes out on a steaming hot plate, and they also add the sides to your plate as they bring it over so you can see the sides cooking more while they were placed onto the main dinner plate (great touch). They had steak sauce, but the steak did not need it in my opinion; either way the steak sauce definitely made an already good steak better (Rating: 9.4/10). The shells + cheese were also very good as well, is another steakhouse that does mac & cheese almost perfect (Rating: 8.9/10) and very nicely sauteed broccoli (Rating: 8.6/10). This was a very great experience, and I definitely appreciated the personalized birthday card from the general manager of the restaurant. Service was top-tier, our server, Amber, was very attentive of us that night and tended to all of our needs as well as giving us lot of insight on the menu; also appreciated her enthusiasm as well on my birthday. Also allowed me to take as many pictures as I wanted after their closing, very patient staff. Chicago has many good steakhouses, and I would definitely have to include Steak 48 as one of those top options (in terms of overall dining experience). I would recommend this place for any adult celebration dinners if you are looking for a place, or if you want to impress a romantic partner.

The food was outstanding, the atmosphere was beautiful, and overall the experience felt very upscale. Unfortunately, we experienced an accident during dinner when a drink was spilled across our table, staining my white shirt and splashing onto my mother's Chanel bag. The manger Jennifer S went above and beyond to make sure my mother and I felt heard, valued, and appreciated as guests. The way she handled the situation reminded me what true hospitality looks like. Steak 48 is already an amazing restaurant, but having leadership like Jennifer is what truly makes it a five-star experience. She is an incredible asset to the company, and because of her genuine care and follow-through, I'll absolutely be returning.

I'll start out by saying that the time in the Aviary was the best cocktail experience we have ever had. Not saying the best cocktails (even though they were very good), but the best experience as far as interesting presentations and overall service combined with good cocktails that when you were drinking them did not feel gimmicky at all, but that everything had a purpose. My wife did the 3 drink progression and ordered The Partridge, The 3 Martini Lunch, and the non-alcoholic version of the Kyoto Plum. I got three cocktails, but because I opted for one on their barrel aged part of the menu, my progression was basically a la carte, not the 3 drink $75 price. We also opted for one small bite of food - The Truffle explosion. My drinks were the Cereal Killer, the In The Rocks, and the Blood and Sand. As far as favorites went Joy's Partridge was basically a Mint Julep with some warming spices, but the presentation was great. Almost every table got that drink so it must be well received. My favorite was the Blood and Sand that was just a really well balanced cocktail. I think that part of the menu does not get the elaborate presentations. We both also enjoyed sharing the 3 martini lunch which was a small version of a Vesper, a Gibson, and a dirty Martini. Two things about this drink, we like our martinis with gin rather than vodka (obviously a Vesper has both), but their rules are that there are no changes to their menus, so both the gibson and the dirty martini were vodka based. The Gibson and the Vesper were our favorites of the three as the dirty martini was too dirty. There was even more olive brine if we wanted it dirtier. Bottom line, top notch experience, great friendly service, and the atmosphere was awesome watching the room being served some of the drinks we had, and ones that we did not order. The Truffle Explosion was also a very good bite, basically a truffle/parmesan infused soup dumpling that exploded in your mouth and helped out with a little food in our belly while having all that alcohol at the same time. The only disappointing cocktail was the Kyoto Plum mocktail, interesting presentation, but tasted just like grape juice - no real character. A hostess from Next came and got us and took us to our table in Next for the 1987 Manhattan meal. Thanks for a great experience Aviary!!

We made a reservation for their three course cocktail experience for four of us which required a deposit of $75 per person. Only one of us ended up doing the experience (the rest of us were too full and already tipsy from dinner) but it was nonetheless, a very cool experience. Service was top notch. My partner has admired this place for a long time, as a bartender himself, and he has even learned a thing or two from their Bible-like cookbooks. So when the maitre d offered to allow him to step into the kitchen and help finish one of their cocktails, he was absolutely giddy. This was such a memorable and special touch for us during our visit to Chicago. I loved seeing how the kitchen worked together in a traditional kitchen line but only focusing on cocktails. It was an impressive thing to see. Many of the cocktails are presented in an incredibly theatrical way featuring interesting glassware, dry ice, and even a plastic bag filled with flavored air. I actually wasn't a big fan of the cocktail I ordered (it leaned too heavy into the BBQ flavor for my taste) but I enjoyed trying everyone else's cocktails at the table. I would definitely recommend checking out The Aviary if you are a cocktail enthusiast hoping to try something you can't get anywhere else. It truly is a fine dining experience with mixology at the forefront.
