When you get tired of those skinny overcooked smash burgers and just want a thick juicy medium rare burger, oozing with cheese - go to Kuma's. The vibes in this place were immaculate! Silly to say but I knew this restaurant was going to be good when I saw they had spiderman playing on the TV! My burger was so juicy and delicious. I couldn't even finish it but even having it for leftovers it was STILL good. The mac and cheese was extremely interesting. Quick service! Lots of space for tables with small and fairly large parties and bar seats available as well. The service took a little bit when we sat, but we were able to order right away. I got a grilled boneless chicken breast sandwich with the Iron Maiden which came with avocado, onion, lettuce, tomato and substitute the cheese for cheddar cheese. The Kuma's cherry coke was suprisingly delicious! We were scarfing down all of our burgers when it arrived and it was all so tasty and cooked to perfection. My plate had fries even though I ordered chips, but the server was able to correct that right away. I loved the kick you get with the ketchup as well. Heard a lot about this place from friends so maybe the expectations were so high that it was unrealistic. Burger was good, great selection of on tap beers. Service was friendly and fast, absolutely no issues It just pales in comparison to a place like Au Cheval and since I was recommended this place as a comparison for best burgers in Chicago, unfairly or not had to compare them and Kuma loses out It is still a great place to go to though for a good burger and a cold one. Vix was our server and truly exceptional--patient, personable, and super knowledgeable. She made the whole experience that much better. The edamame sounds simple, but it was insanely good--packed with flavor. We shared a side Caesar salad with grilled chicken, and it was more than enough for two. Fresh, crisp, and absolutely delicious. We each had a Bloody Mary with a beer chaser--mine was a bit spicier than I'd like, but overall they hit the spot. Full disclosure. This review is from 10 years ago. Perhaps something here has changed? Maybe there has been an infiltration of recent cool kids trends like cider and meatless burgers - I really don't know. Back in my day, trendy meant or putting an egg on a burger or serving it on a wood cutting board. I don't know if that's still the case but my experience here at the time was that the food did not match the quality of the then President of the United States. In short, the burger was beyond undercooked, the place inside was hotter than hell and the worst of the worst was the terrible attitudes and treatment by staff. I sure hope things have changed for the better but until I am personally assured that, I cannot recommend here and my position will not change on the matter until my dying days in the old folks home. read more

This is a cool joint! I came here on the weekend with my brother, who was in town and dying to try it! He's a big metal fan, so Kuma's Corner has been on his radar for a while. They obviously played metal music, to which my brother identified and shared facts about each song on their playlist to those in our party. They have a selection of beers, cans, spirits, cocktails, and NA options. I opted for the Two Snaps, which seemed interesting. It was a great drink option and also NA. I also got the Plague Burger, which was delicious! I got a side of fries, which were tasty, as well. Everything was flavorful and had a kick to it, which our whole party commented on. Staying with some friends who happen to be vegan, I asked them to take me to some of their favorite restaurants around Chicago. They told me I would like the aesthetic and theme of Kuma's Corner, and boy, were they right! The drink and food were excellent too. On a Monday, around 3:00pm, three of us parked on the street directly across from the original Kuma's Corner. We asked to be seated inside and were led to a table towards the back. When you walk in, you see a big bar with a few TVs and lots of hard rock/metal band posters and music playing. It is a bit dark inside but we did not have any problems reading the menu. It took a few moments for the waitress to come over with waters and ask for our drink order, but she appeared to be pulling double duty as the bar tender. Everything took a little extra time as she was busy with other tables and taking care of the bar, so that was a bit unfortunate, but thankfully we had nowhere else to be. As we sipped on our beers, we had more than ample time to read the menu and decide what we wanted. After placing our food orders, we waited a good 20 minutes or so for our late-in-the-day lunches to arrive. For lunch, I ordered their "Clutch" burger (cooked medium) with a side of fries. The "Clutch" burger is topped with jalapeno bacon jam, cheddar cheese, pepperjack cheese, swiss cheese, lettuce, tomato, and onion, all between a pretzel bun. This was a phenomenal burger! It was cooked perfectly and was plenty big. The jalapeno bacon jam on top stood out, complementing the other toppings very well. The fries were cooked perfectly as well and had a tiny kick to them, which I liked quite a bit. The burger was plenty big, probably half-pound, and there were plenty of fries - I was nice and full walking out of here. The prices seemed in-line for the quality and quantity of food I received, which may seem high to some, but what I saw is pretty close to other restaurants serving burgers. I really liked Kuma's Corner! The hard rock/metal theme is right up my alley, and the burgers are unique and delicious. Seeing as it was a holiday (Labor Day), I understand the wait for everything being a little longer as they were most likely operating with a reduced number of staff. I definitely would come back and try another one of their burgers though, but maybe grab a seat at the bar instead. read more

I've been to Kuma's plenty of times - both the Belmont and West Loop locations and have nothing but good things to say about dine-in experience. This review is strictly about catering. First off their catering manager, Lisa, has been awesome to work with. Perfect amount of communication and understanding about party size and food recommendations. She is on her A game, and you are in good hands with her. This has been the third time I've ordered catering from Kuma's and I can say it is one of the meals we look forward to every year. It has become a tradition of sorts to have Kuma's for the last week of our regular season football season. I would recommend ordering a variety of things off the menu, but if you are looking for some standouts here are a few must try's: Sliders - this is what Kuma's is known for, and the sliders are just as good as their massive burgers. At $4 each it won't blow your bank to order a good variety, I'd recommend 2 per guest. Ask about seasonal burgers if they can do sliders as well, as we were able to get the Sleep burger as a slider (thanksgiving meal in a burger - so good). My faves are the Plague Bringer and Led Zeppelin. Chili - no clue what they put in here to make it so good, but it smells like beer. Some of the best chili I've ever had. Mac & Cheese - really solid Mac. You can get add ins. Tons of cheese. Enough said. Pulled Pork - a small trey will easily serve 15-20 people. Great for a 'build your own' style with pretzel buns on the side! We also tried the pop tarts but I forgot a picture - they are super flakey and delicious, look great, and have a nice variety of flavors. I would highly recommend Kuma's catering for your next event, you won't be disappointed! read more

The Sleep. Every November, the turkey burger of lore. Always worth the trip. This location is significantly less crowded than the past, assuming the surplus of Kumas locations and other burger joints filing the void in other neighborhoods. Service still friendly and quick, it is what it is. The burgers of the month are the star of the show. Their regular lineup is vast but largely just different combinations of cheese with onion frizzle. Could probably dam the Cal Sag with the amount of onion frizzle this place goes through in a year. I got the Kuma Signature burger, and it was really good. Probably the second or third best burger I've had in Chicago. Why not five stars? The price. I could go to Small Cheval, which I think is the best burger in Chicago, and have two burgers for close to the price of what I paid for one here. Kuma's Corner is a longtime favorite in Avondale and looks like it's been rocking for a long time. Has a pretty big menu of all kinds to things to choose from. There's beer, cocktails, and food for meat or plant based eaters, okay prices for big portions. Been here a few times and I have a few favorite drinks and food. It's good for beers or cocktails, and they have a lot. The prices aren't that great but you get good stuff. It's about $9 for the cheapest cocktails. The Critter Ball is your choice of Deep Eddy flavor, ginger beer, and lemon. Food is impressive for a bar. The only bad thing is it gets pricy. It can be $19 for a burger and chips. The Converge is the vegan choice, an Impossible Burger topped with avocado mash, baby arugula, cherry tomato jam, red onions, vegan cheddar, and vegan roasted garlic mayonnaise with the choice of a side. Gets busy almost any time so maybe not a good place for groups or you'll be waiting awhile. It's like some nasty old punk rock bar but it's a lot cleaner than one except for the bathrooms so avoid touching anything in there. First time at a Kuma's and it did not disappoint. A very unique and cool vibe. Service was great. We went on a Friday night but called ahead to see how long the wait time was. Luckily for us the hostess said it was only about a 30 minute wait and she would put our names down on the list. We ordered our Uber and headed to Kuma's. The hostess called us back to see how close we were and she said "not to worry, your table will be ready for you when you get here." And sure enough, our table was ready. They have a great burger menu - it definitely took us several minutes to narrow down which burger we wanted. We ended up ordering the plague bringer with fries. We also ordered the house made ketchup, raspberry aioli, and garlic aioli. Burger was amazing. Sauces (especially the raspberry aioli) were YUM. We ate at Kuma's for lunch and let me start with the food was AMAZING loved all of it and the environment was great. However, the service left A LOT to be desired. We were sat promptly and then left at our table for 15 minutes...when Amee FINALLY came over she was almost rushing and didn't really even bother with a greeting. We got "what can I get you" No apologies for the wait No acknowledgment of how long it took to even bother seeing us sitting there. Our first thought was she was busy in the back, but nope. She came out, spoke to other tables and walked past us a good 4-5 times. When she gets there she takes our drink order, leaves, someone else brings it, we again, don't see her for another 5-10 minutes. Finally, comes back we order our food, Waiting, no big deal. My husband calls her over, cops a tone when he asks for another beer, we get a sure! 10 minutes later, no beer....have to ask for it after our food comes. Now on observations as a patron and past service industry worker, this is a blanket issue with service at Kumas....5-10 minutes for a sever to come over and get drinks. But the other server around us was back at her tables at least more often. We would like to come back, my kids loved the food and so did my husband and I. But if the service can't seem to get it together....it shouldn't take longer for my sever to pay attention to a table to get another beer than it takes to cook an entire table of four's entrees..... read more

This little burger spot is metal themed, so the entire restaurant's vibes match that theme from decor to music. We got a few burgers and some mac and cheese, while the price was a little high, the portions were huge, and we definitely weren't close to finishing, so I recommend coming here on an empty stomach for sure. The burgers were okay, I got a black bean veggie patty which was decent (as black bean patties usually come out a bit dry). but the overall burger wasn't anything out of this world. We also got the buffalo chicken mac and cheese, which felt like it had way too much buffalo sauce for me personally.
