Review of Service: 2015 Toyota Prius Hybrid Repair…read more Rating: 1/5 Stars This review outlines a highly unsatisfactory experience involving multiple attempts to resolve a recurring issue with our 2015 Toyota Prius Hybrid, resulting in significant cost and an ultimately undrivable vehicle. Initial Service & Failure: Our vehicle was brought to Starr's with a confirmed diagnosis (from a Toyota dealership and a second independent shop) requiring a replacement of the electric water pump (EWP). After this repair was completed, the core problem--a recurring hybrid system alert forcing the car to shut down--returned almost immediately. This demonstrated the initial repair, despite being based on external diagnosis, failed to resolve the root cause of the vehicle's functional failure. Second Service & Misdiagnosis: During a subsequent tow back to Starr's, the small accessory battery was unintentionally depleted. The shop diagnosed the issue as a faulty battery, charging us $700 for a replacement, yet failing to address the fundamental hybrid system alert that necessitated the tow. The owner later stated that replacing the battery would have "permanently erased existing codes," a claim that raises significant professional and technical concerns regarding the shop's understanding of modern vehicle computer diagnostics and permanent fault storage. Conclusion: After two service attempts and substantial expenditure, the car still exhibits the exact same critical hybrid system failure and is currently undrivable. We caution prospective customers that our experience indicates a lack of capability to properly diagnose and resolve complex hybrid vehicle systems, leading to costly and unsuccessful repairs.
