Ironically, I locked my keys in my car while I was parked right outside the shop. My car was unlocked within a few minutes and then I decided to go ahead and have a copy made of my car key to avoid this event in the future, I received my new key promptly and the price for these services was more than reasonable. I came in on 4/10 to get a key cut and programmed for my 2011 Honda Accord. They were able to cut the key but stated they weren't able to program the key, that my vehicle or key had an issue. This wouldn't have been a big deal, but they charged me full price ($40) as if they cut and programmed the key, which they did not. A standard key cut is $10 at this establishment. This is a locksmith. You can have keys made here. It gets an extra star for being close to Chelly's and Mike's. They keep reasonable hours. They're a long-standing neighborhood business. I've had a few keys made here. Once, one didn't work and they replaced it. This is cash only. This makes sense; credit card processing companies claim a chunk of profits that can make it hard for a small business to turn a profit. I have been worried about my front door for 6 months. If I went outside it would "lock" behind me and I could only get back in through another door. I had been looking at new door sets for hundreds of dollars and then thinking I would need to pay hundreds more to have it installed, plus repaint the door. The lockset on my home is original from 1936 and had been "taped off" by the previous owner. I scheduled a service call with Brandt and the gentleman came. He explained how my door latch and lock work and showed me how to use it properly. There was nothing wrong with it. Movers broke a key off in a 1950 coke machine. 2 different locksmiths could not make a key, company that broke key was going to call a mobile locksmith but after talking to the guy he wanted to drill out the lock. Bought a newer used vehicle recently and this was the only place I could find that could cut a second encoded key. -1 star because their hours are terrible, no weekend or evening service at all. Hardly helpful to the average worker. Also be warned they do not take credit or debit cards, and an encoded key will cost you about sixty dollars. I don't walk around with much cash so that was a big hassle. -1 another star because not one of the three men behind the corner even smiled at me or thanked me for the business. I think they've caught on to the fact that they have a market monopoly for specialty keys and decided customer service wasn't necessary. Nevertheless the wait was short, the key was cut and works perfectly, and in the end that matters most. I'd still recommend it to a friend, but they would be warned what to expect. read more

Now, at the dealer, I could get an espresso and a "free" sandwich and sit for an hour or two and pay $500 for a new keyless fob for my 2010 Camry- or I could come here, no "free" sandwich, bring a fob I bought on the internet for $100 and pay $40 to have it programmed in 5 minutes. Then I could go to Bluestem for dinner with my wife and spend $150 for dinner, plus $90 for wine pairings... ... Profit! read more

Experienced locksmith! Warning: he only accepts cash or check, but luckily I happened to have a check with me so it wasn't an issue. I had tried to get a duplicate of my husbands car key made at another locksmith (2006 Mitsubishi galant), and they had taken an hour and ruined five of their key shells to not be able to make a key. They had recommended that I come to Brandt. "He can do it for sure." My husband had also brought another replacement key shell to another locksmith before this, so this would be our THIRD attempt to make a new key. The locksmith on duty took about 5 minutes to explain my options and program a new key. Success! A word about a few of the other reviews for this place. This place is old school and very honest about what they do. They will come to your house when you're locked out, but they will suggest you use another service if they are very busy and it will be a long time. They're very upfront about telling you this. I locked myself out several years ago and they encouraged me to use someone else. They were truthful about how long it would take and how much it would cost. Nothing wrong with that at all, it's a business choice. Their hours are 9-5 Monday through Friday. They're not trying to be the on-call emergency locksmith available 24/7. They are the neighborhood locksmith you go to when you need keys made because their prices are great and you'll be in and out in a hurry. They are cash only. So if you have a big job, take cash with you and stop crying about it. It's a small business and that's a reasonable business choice. I went in not too long ago and waited a few minutes while the locksmith was talking on a telephone headset to a customer. Yes, he did not immediately acknowledge me but he walked up toward the front counter so I knew that he knew I was waiting, and I would be his next focus of attention. When it was my turn I told him I had a very simple job, just to replace a screw in my smart key for my car. Not looking for any favors, I did tell him I had brought in my key a couple of years ago for the same screw replacement to his place. He fixed my key, no charge. Over the past week, it became harder and harder to unlock the bolt to my front door with my key. So I took the bolt off and brought it to Brandt. It took him less than 5 minutes to fix it. He came back and explained what happened & how he fixed it. Then gave me a quick tutorial on how to avoid pitfalls when I reinstall my bolt as well as general info on lock maintenance for my house and vehicles. The most unexpected part was he refused to take payment. He said, "I can't charge you cause I didn't do any real work." This may be true for him. But I wouldn't have a working lock if it wasn't for his "work." I don't ever have to come home and find my children locked out of the house because of his work.
