Great selection in store lots of selection meats cheese, fish, imported snacks, breads, salad bar, meat counter, deli counter, hot food table with small dining area with some dessert choices. Some line up at hot table and deli counter. Lots of products to look at. Something new to try and bring home each time! (My favorites are the pate and smoked meats.) Hot table lunch order ( variety of sides to choose from) can eat in or take out. What we ordered -Schnitzel & 2 sides -14.99 -Cabbage roll & 2 sides -9.99 - Smoked ham & 2 sides -9.99 2 ladies at the counter take order and pay on the side cashier. This is a very cool one-off deli/grocery/restaurant spot located in Mississauga. It has an awesome hot table that serves a variety of lunch & dinner meals such as German Schnitzel, sausage, potato pancakes, soups, etc. All tasty & bad for you cause it's mostly all fried! It's also a full service deli, bakery & German Import grocery store maned by lots of older German & Polish ladies! It has a great selection of all imported & seemingly first quality products. The only downside I see about the grocery area is most everything is relabelled. I think it's just to add English, otherwise this very busy location is constantly churning with lots of older traditional German customers. If you're in the area, make it a point to go to the quirky little location...you won't be disappointed the foods delicious!! read more

Brandt is a local community businesses that is the definition of the Canadian dream. Since the 60s this family run operation has been a staple of the Toronto and now Mississauga community. They are your number one stop for anything European foods related and if you get a chance to talk with any of the staff you'll know that they get customers from as far as Barrie dropping by to buy their stuff. I've been here twice now and each time I am amazed at the quality of their products and how informed the staff are about the meats and produce they sell. They have a hot bar where you can grab a nice lunch or dinner schnitzel meal before you browse the rest of their collection of cheese and meats. By far their "bread and butter" is the smoked meats. Not only do they produce and sell their meats at the supermarket, but their giant shipping facility located behind the market actually supplies many of the restaurants around the GTA. Next time you are writing a review about the fantastic meal you had at your new favourite restaurant, chances are the meat came from Brant. PS. Their pierogi and cheesecake collection is my favourite reason to go visit! read more

I made the trip to Brandt Meats to grab a blood sausage (the one that is used to make a hot entree) as they make them in the factory which is part of the larger building. These sausages are not available just anywhere in Canada, so I decided to treat my dad by FedExing one of them to him out west where supply is spotty. Great German import store overall, with its long aisles chock full of Teutonic tastiness, and as well anything from over there that you can't get here. Germans love their Persil laundry detergent and will buy expensive boxes full of that stuff, for example. Probably the most impressive area is the meat counter, naturally. It goes on forever and full of smoked meats and sandwich type sausage meat which is sliced and enjoyed on pumpernickel or crisp bread. They have some cheese too, although it isn't a cheese shop and due to federal laws most cheeses are not allowed to be imported into Canada from other countries. Anything canned seems to be OK to import though, so if it fits in a can, Brandt Meats will have it. Herring is hugely popular. The other area to check out is the hot table. It appears to be very worthwhile, and a nice change from the usual Italian hot tables scattered around the city. Sausage and Sauerkraut FTW!! read more

I used to do deliveries in my college days here and grab a meal from the hot table. The food used to be fantastic. Maybe my age but the schnitzels here not as good as they used to be. I'm not really a fan of German food like stinky/strong cheese, sauerkraut, or pretzels (soft/hard, ick!), but this place is worth checking out for imported EE foods like Sprats (yum!), Latvia's answer to sardines, numerous condiments, and reasonably priced chocolate!!! According to the other reviews, this place has a German-produced Nutella which is supposed to be "different" than North American stuff. Love Brant's. Our family has been coming here for years. All the European staples and treats ! The cold cuts and meats are just fantastic and great value as well. Specially imported items such a noodles, jams, coffees, baking items are sold here and a visit would be complete if you didn't take a few minutes and have lunch from their hot cooked Cafe. Just wonderful Brawurst on a bun, cabbage rolls, schnitzel and even a wonderful goulash ! A wide variety of Knorr and Maggie mixes and haven't a even gotten to the chocolates and treats. The only reason I would ever venture into Mississauga is for Brandt's -- the cutest little grocery store the world has ever seen. This place is all Kinder & Knorr and I love it to death. I need to start shopping here instead of my neighborhood Loblaw's. My German 'rents would be so proud. They even have Dove soap from Germany. And Nutella that is directly from Germany (it actually tastes a bit different/better than the stuff you get here, no lie). Brandt Meats has been providing high quality meats and cheeses since 1958. While I had driven by their retail location many times, I finally stopped in to have a look. To begin with, their meat and cheese selection is incredible. The variety if awesome and the people behind the counter serving customers look serious and experienced. You can tell they take pride in their work. I picked up some nice tenderloins for the BBQ and was able to specify exactly what I wanted and what size. There is no having to select only from what is already cut. The store also has a selection of European food items and a small cafe. The people in the store are friendly and helpful. I will definitely be back to check out some of their grocery items and for more meat and poultry. read more

I was pleasantly surprised the first time I visited Brandt as I was expecting a warehouse type store or something similar to European Quality Meats (on Jutland). However, it's actually an excellent little German grocery store that even has a hot buffet with cabbage rolls, schnitzel, stews, etc. I wouldn't hesitate from eating there as it's extremely clean, despite the industrial/ warehouse look from the street. The meat counter looks exactly as photo #4 (if that helps at all). Staff is fairly friendly and we've never experienced any rude patrons - people just keep to themselves. Lots of private and street parking too. The luncheon meats are very fresh and reasonable - most under $2.00 for 100g. We've never been disappointed when we've purchased fresh meats and sausages as the quality is far superior to most grocery stores. There's not a huge selection steaks, roasts, etc. but if you're looking for salami or other cured meats, this is your place! Just please note that it has limited business hours - only open from Wednesday to Saturday. read more

This place takes me back to my roots. My husband and I are both German and while we absolutely love North America, of course we miss some products from "home". Luckily enough, Brandt has most of them and quite frankly the prices are not much different from what we used to pay in Germany, so I can't complain. There are only 3 reasons why I opted out of giving them 5 stars: 1. They don't have our favorite chips: Chipsfrisch Ungarisch by Funny Frisch (- so far we haven't been able to find them anywhere in Canada.. so if a fellow Yelper knows - please let me know...) 2. They never make enough pretzel buns. If you are coming after 11am-ish.. you don't get any cause they are all gone... and that's too bad cause they are really yummy. 3. If you want to buy German Nutella - make sure to check the label. We do and a few times it turned out it was produced in Canada and NOT in Germany. This is actually matters because German Nutella tastes different from Canadian Nutella. (We brought Nutella from our last trip home and tested them side by side with the one you get here for comparison.. ;)) Other than that I think this place is great. Their staff is nice and most of them are even German-speaking which is great since a lot of elderly people are shopping there too and I noticed that quite a few of them don't speak English perfectly... After being a loyal customer for full 9 years, I had to stop buying the pretzels here today. I came earlier as usual and saw how the pretzels and buns were unloaded to the shelves. Right in front of me two plastic boxes from the dirty floor were put on uncovered bread. And I mean it. When the boxes are of different sizes one often tries to put smaller boxes on top trying make the stack solid. Small case falls into a larger one and the dirty bottom, seconds ago standing on a dirty floor contacts uncovered bread flat. Brandt showroom is a true gem. You'll see lifelong customers who have been visiting the German shop ever since it opened its doors in the 50s. Here are some reasons why this is a great / authentic place: 1. The selection of German meats from pork hocks (smoked and fresh) to weisswurst and endless salami selection is impressive and very reasonably priced. 2. The selection of European herbal teas (mostly teabags) can not be beat. From pine tea to white mulberry leaf you can find it here. 3. You will find a variety of pickled cabbage, herring and everything in between. 4. Spices and ingredients for German foods such as juniper berries, cloves etc. can be found here. 5. There is a whole wall of German shampoos! This is how you know the place is authentic. 6. The schnitzels at the takeout counter are fantastic. 7. Ms. Brandt who owns and runs the shop is very pleasant, and was unboxing goods and very actively working at 70 years +. She also gave us quite a few tips and pointed us to the right ingredients when we told her about the dish we wanted to prepare. 8. The authentic European feel of the shop is a true rarity in the GTA. My go-to place for anything European on the weekends. Brandt offers freshly-made sandwiches to eat-in or to go, a variety of pastries, home cooked meals (including goulash & cabbage rolls) and all sorts of European grocery items, mainly German/Polish. It took me a while to make my way here when I first moved to T.O. since it's a little hidden. But a friend told me about this place and everything I have ever gotten here from schnitzel, salads, soups have been great. They operate a huge meat processing plant right next door so the store isn't actually their main business. They're only open 4 days a week and that includes Saturday until 3pm. There is a counter/section inside the store that sells all kinds of German and European cosmetic products, creams, lotions, bath and beauty etc... so every now and then I pick-up a detergent which I used to use when I was in Europe. Smells really nice and you can't buy it here. A little pricey but still, not too bad considering many of the products and items in the store are imported. The staff is usually friendly, there are a few that have that "German" coldness to them but they're not rude at all. There is nothing better than a European deli and will definitely be back next weekend. read more

Good food at the hot counter, yummy cabbage rolls. Im all for the European Nutella, and this the only store where I can find the Nutella sticks. I managed to get a Wag Jag deal to pick up bulk chicken from here. Erie meats is the supplier but 30 bucks for a 4kg box is quite a deal. read more

I am from the states, and my wife often travels back to Ontario to visit her family. She's always bringing things home from Brandts and I've often wondered or imagined what Brandts was like. I finally got a chance to check it out last month and it was an interesting experience. I always thought that it would be quite a bit bigger inside. The aisles were very narrow. There were a lot of things that were good, but in a very small area. I wish we had a place like this in Connecticut. I did get a chance to eat there and the food was pretty good. There was free coffee in these tiny little cups. Overall it was an interesting and good experience. I feel that I each time I take a visit, I would visit this place and bring things home. read more

The Brandt store is the greatest little store ever! My husband loves their salami, and when we buy it at a grocery store, you get 300 grams for like $6.00. At this store we buy an entire salami for only about $12.00! And it lasts forever. We told some friends about it and now when we go out there we have lists from friends or they come with us to check the store out. Everyone that comes with us is blown away at the great prices. The staff are so nice and very hard working. The place is always packed, but I understand why, they have great products for great prices! I love this place. read more

The staff is a lot of older women who seem to bicker and fight among themselves (unprofessional and immature in my opinion), bland interaction with customers (no 'Enjoy your meal!' comments or other polite comments/courtseys). Brandt's is a meat packer that focuses on German and central European products. You can find their cold cuts and many other products in stores all across Southern Ontario. The main plant on Mattawa also has a great store that carries all their products--stuff that you won't see at most of the distributors. The store has an awesome selection on German foods. It and Dimpflmeiers in Etobicoke are the two best places for German foods in the GTA. read more

What a wonderful place to fill up on all the Christmas sweets. This was my first time driving out here although my sister is a regular. I decided to venture out there instead of relying on my sister to get my goodies. I will never go to a Christmas market again instead I will go directly there. I just talked to a very knowledgeable gentleman at Brandt's. As my mother-in-law ages her memory is not good. I decided to have her do crossword puzzles as is recommended for the mind to keep it active. This gentlemen helped me with this as they do carry crossword puzzle books. Thank you for your help. We were also there at Christmas and it was amazing. We were able to get everything we needed for the festive season and more. We had a wonderful lunch which when picking up the book for her we will definitely indulge in again. I am not even German as my husband and his mother are but I love this store and everything it has. My family, starting with my babcia when I was a child, has shopped at Brandt Meats for many years. I was very disappointed in the incredibly poor customer service from Anna who basically said 'too bad' to my seven year old son when we asked to use the toilet in the back of the store. The toilet at the front had two men working in it who told us to use the toilet in the back. What kind of human being tells a little boy that he can go pee himself? I guess that I will have to try Starsky, Hollenda or some other store like it. Very disappointed. read more
