Arbor Terrace Mountainside is an Assisted Living community. I've been with the Arbor company for…read moreover a year now and it has been a pleasure leading such a dedicated team and providing them with daily leadership to provided our residents with the highest quality of care.

My father and his wife lived here for 1 1/2 years. In the beginning we were very pleased. But as my…read moredad and his wife declined, so did the care they provided. Many times I would see the aides talking amongst themselves, sitting in the back of a room and not engaging the residents, who so desperately need attention. My dad's wife was frail and weak from her illnesses and the aides never seemed to help her navigate her way through the dining room to her seat. I addressed this with them several times, but it didn't change. Ultimately she took a bad fall in the dining room one day and ended up fracturing her hip. After her operation and a month in rehab she returned to Arbor. I witnessed them dropping her dinner off to her, which she clearly could not cut the meat up by herself and my dad's cognitive ability did not allow him to either. When I told the nurse that she needed her food cut up she told me a needed a doctors order for that (which I found out was not true). It took me several days to straighten this out, and by then she had declined significantly and I was told by Arbor that she needed to be evaluated y hospice. She went on hospice care and passed two weeks later. During those two weeks the care that she and my dad got was horrible. The staff lacked compassion, empathy and were not helpful at all towards my dad and I. They rarely even came into the room to check on her, unless we requested something from them. It was very disturbing. A few days after she passed they were approaching me about downsizing my father's room, probably because they were able to rent it out at a higher rate than he was paying. I moved him out instead. I would not recommend this facility for anyone who might be in late stages of dementia,

If I could rate them with no stars I would. In my view unless your family member is totally…read morehealthy, their focus is about money and not on the well being of the person. They increase the monthly fees for every little thing and never provide you with a detailed accounting of what you are paying for. They did NOT notice that my mom had fallen and she was holding her wrist up and could not use it to eat. And after we found her this way and took her to a doctor to confirm it was broken, it was too swollen to put into a cast. So the doctors office put a splint on it to help reduce the pain and swelling but when it came time to Sunrise changing it, they put it on incorrectly so the splint was NOT supporting her hand! They left it dangling and she was in even more pain. TWICE! They did NOT properly explain what would happen if she got worse and the other levels of care she could receive. They simply said that they have multiple levels of care available to her and us. They put her in a room with dementia patients even though she did not have any dementia just so that they could pool her with others to "watch" her. She was NOT allowed to stay in her room when she wanted to. She HAD to go to each meal or go wheeled into this collective room. Buyer beware and ask a LOT of questions. AND I do not recommend this facility unless you or a family member can visit and check up on a daily basis. Because our mom wanted to stay in bed one morning and not go down for breakfast and they tried to force her, we ended up moving her into hospice where she could do what she wanted when she wanted to. It was peaceful for her and we knew she was getting what she needed when she needed it.

My mom, who was actively dying, couldn't be off oxygen for more than a few seconds. When I arrived, they were wheeling her to her new room--WITHOUT oxygen. She was gasping for air and in a panic, crying. I begged them to hurry, but the aide pushing her wheelchair moved at a snail's pace while my mom was terrified. I even grabbed the wheelchair to try to push it faster, but she wasn't responding. I yelled, "Someone please help!" but the staff just stood in the hallway, gawking. While the mistake was eventually acknowledged, my mom felt totally unsafe--and she was. She died the next day. I deeply regret trusting Mountainside with her care. I cannot recommend this facility to anyone. Please be cautious and consider other options if your loved one needs serious care.
