I placed my father at the Howell location in July 2018, and words cannot begin to express the gratitude I feel toward each team member whenever I walk into the facility. Pop had a difficult time adjusting when he first got there (as I'm sure most do). The seeming loss of independence and his recognition that he needed care was hard for him to handle, as he is a proud man who always did whatever needed to be done to provide for his family. Colleen G was absolutely wonderful during the admission process. Jen S has been looking out for and taking excellent care of my Dad. Amy is just an absolute delight. My father feels loved and safe there. Each and every single interaction I've had with any of the staff members has been excellent. I am a single mother with two kids. I have a full time job that requires frequent travel, and a chronic illness that can knock me out of commission for a few days on occasion. Taking care of my father for the past 18 years has been difficult. I would like you to know that since Dad has been at Brandywine, I feel that a huge weight has been lifted off my shoulders and I cannot thank you enough. Lisa has built such an incredible culture there and has such a great staff and I simply wanted to offer my thanks.

Unfortunately, the quality of care is spotty at best. Some of the employees are very kind and caring, but not all. On several occasions, Mom has had to wait hours for someone to help her get dressed or go to the rest room. I shudder to think what might happen if she had a medical emergency and pushed the help button. Despite repeated complaints, nothing changes. Also, the food is disgusting. Every time I visit Mom I bring her a meal. All the residents complain about the food, but it never changes. It is often served cold and if there is an expensive item on the menu, it runs out during the first dinner seating. The meats and fish are always overcooked and dry. This is institutional food at its worst. Mom survives on carbs because the proteins are inedible. Elderly people need soft, moist food. The management puts on a good front, but when you dig deeper, what you find is unpleasant.

Our father, Ted Nardolillo, recently passed away after living at Brandywine at the Gables for…read morealmost one year. For most of that time he was physically and mentally competent. But for the last three months his physical health deteriorated substantially and became very depressed and forgetful. In the last month he had hospice care and a 24 hour aid provided by others that were able to provide the appropriate care without having to move him into another room let along another facility. I won't bother comment in any detail about the facility's amenities - the food, the activities, the cleanliness of the facility. They were fine and more than adequate I am sure there are other, more expensive facilities that could provide a higher degree of amenities and more creature comforts. But what was critical to our family, who never thought either of our parents would ever live anywhere but in their own home or with one of their children, was the care and attention paid to their emotional and physical needs. Our father was a warm, funny and caring person. For him to be comfortable he needed to be surrounded by people who what type of person he was and treat him with the care and affection deserved of such a lovable person. Brandywine and the other providers they brought in, were that and more. They truly bonded with him and made sure he was cared for. If food or his meds needed to be prepared in a certain way they went out of their way to accommodate. If he was cranky and depressed as his condition worsened they were patient and sensitive. I could give plenty of examples of the large and little things they did to make our family content that under his most difficult days he was being properly cared for. When the time finally arrived and our father passed away many of the aides, nurses and other staff treated him and us like family. In an occupation where failing health and ultimately death is not an uncommon occurrence they seemed truly touched and concerned by his worsening condition and grieved with us when he passed away. They even attended his services and stayed with us well past the "respectful' time we thought others in similar line of work would spend. My family will never forget the loving care and respect they showed my father and his family. When you see that type of treatment by paid professionals who only got to know him during his final months you can't help but feel lucky that we picked the perfect place for him. Five stars does not do justice for what these people did for our father. Mark and Wayne, two very grateful sons

The entire staff was just amazing - so caring and kind and made my father feel like they knew him for years. Maria Carnevale, Director of Admissions, was especially wonderful and went out of her way to work with us no matter what obstacles came up. She treated us like family and made the place truly feel like home. Many of the staff have been there for 10, 15, 20 years or more and that speaks volumes. I cannot say enough about this place and especially Maria for making it all possible. Bless you all for everything you do!
