We enjoyed snacks and drinks right outside our room. We sat out on the covered porch on the side of the house and enjoyed the setting sun. In the morning, we were treated to a gourmet breakfast. We stayed in the Carl Vrooman suite; had 3 rooms. One was "standard", with a comfortable bed, the second was a sitting room with Carl's desk and a couch; then a separate bath with clawfoot tub. Everything was very "period". It was quiet, clean, and easy access to restaurants in Bloomington. We bounced a dinner idea off Brian and he heartily agreed - and it was great! Left at 9:00 the next morning, refreshed and happy.

If only they could figure out how to not burn the bacon which we figure is the "already cooked" kind, which they refry to heat; invariably hard. My suggestion: I find heating in a microwave on DEFROST is often the best solution, even to reheat pizza. No nuking. You shouldn't go hungry from the offered selection but you may have difficulty getting bread or bagel toasted. Guests constantly complain about it and it has never gotten fixed. Yes it's annoying. You're in a hurry, you're hungry, you're making other people wait, etc. I mean, what's the cost of a couple good-working toasters?

The beds in the Rose and Lilac Rooms are Tempur-Pedic and make for a good sleep if you have a bad back. The little things go a long way here - the inn has cold bottled water constantly available and the proprietors strive to make the guests feel at home. We had an elderly relative along and he used Helen's Room which is the ADA room in the Carriage House - it was perfect for him and all went well. The breakfast is just fantastic. Buzz, our host, was a great host and made sure we were happy. There is nothing like breakfast in the dining room with the fireplace making warmth and enjoying freshly prepared breakfast. No conventional hotel can match this. Buzz also recommended some restaurants and we were most pleased with his recommendation. We really enjoyed Market Street Inn and will return in the future. If you are looking for a great Bed & Breakfast, look no further - this is it. It is worth a special trip if you are traveling on the interstates and looking for the feel of home while on the road. We were touring Route 66 and stayed here for that specific experience which I remember from childhood. On those grounds it basically delivers - for an old motel, it's reasonably well kept up. The owner working the front desk was very hospitable. My kids and I swam in the large indoor (seasonal) pool. The room, redecorated in the 1980s to judge by the style, was a bit beaten up and shabby but certainly clean. Most everything works even if it doesn't all work well. Amenities included wifi and continental breakfast. If you're used to 3-star city hotels with a concierge and room service, you might subtract a star. If you are on Route 66 and hunting the experience of a bygone era of travel, though, maybe add one - few surviving classic motels in Illinois are better.
