IS THERE A LESS THAN 100 STAR RATING AVAILABLE??? I am so…read moreupset and disappointed in the lack of care or concern by the entire office staff. Today was my first & last visit to this over the top unprofessional place. As I was checking into my appointment, I was informed by the receptionist that Dr. Roth does not accept my insurance plan. Wait.. What? When I called to make the appointment, I stated that Dr. Alexander JC Penny Eye Care) was referring me to Dr. Brass (keep this tidbit in mind). As she was taking my info, she asked me who was my carrier. I replied, and also stated that I already checked the website and Dr. Brass was listed. She replied, please call your insurance carrier as sometimes things will change and it may not be accurate on the website. Fair enough. I called, and sure enough Dr. Brass was part of network. So why when I show up today do I have an appointment with Dr. Roth? I already stated who I was referred to and that is who I wanted to see. If you knew that Dr. Roth does not take my insurance, why wouldn't you tell me? Or better yet, don't schedule me with him. Stated that I was really having issues that I was concerned about & needed to see someone today. She continued to say that Dr. Roth does not take the insurance--if I really wanted the appointment, I could have it and pay out of my pocket. Or, she said, you can come back tomorrow to see Dr. Brass. NO-- I took time off of work TODAY, because today was my appointment. They would not accommodate me. She asked me if I had asked Ins carrier if Dr. Roth was in network. NO-- because I thought I was seeing Dr. Brass!!! Another woman stepped in and stated over & over the same thing (as a 3rd listened through the sliding window) Then a 4th stepped out from behind the office & was just as rigid & rude as can be. When I asked again, why would you give me an appointment with a Dr that does not take my insurance? She stated, we typically tell you who you have the appointment with, so you can verify with your carrier. My response was, yeah, operative word there-- typically. As you DID not tell me or even lead me to believe I was not seeing Dr. Brass. So I left in tears and very angry with the treatment I just incurred. My parents, who were waiting to bring me home, as I was told I could not drive after the appointment, saw how upset I was. They promptly drove me to their Dr. I spoke with a very professional woman- who CHECKED my coverage for me and gladly made an appointment for me. Yes, I have to take additional time off for the appointment. Which truthfully, I would have done to see either of your Dr's- but the simple fact that all 3 women were so indignant to think that I implied any miscommunication on their part-- that I will NEVER again step foot in there. I will make sure I tell EVERYONE who ever asks about my eye care to stay far away from you. I also called Dr. Alexander's office and suggested he choose a professional practice in his referrals.

On June 9th 2016 I had cataract surgery on my right eye. And yes, the thought of having surgery done on my eye, which you obviously can't shut, turn and look away, is a bit unnerving. Although Dr. Brass gave re-assurance that all would be well, nothing could have quelled the fear of eye surgery, in my mind anyway. But after having researched his track record, I knew he was probably right. Besides, you gotta do what you gotta do. The surgery went far better than I expected. It was all over in a blink (pun intended), and I was back home within 4 hrs from when I had left. I returned on Dec.19th to have the other eye done. This time my whole perspective had changed. It went just as well as the first, but with far less apprehension on my part. Although I am glad that humans have only two eyes, if we had a third, I would certainly have it's surgery done with this group. Oh and BTW, they have their own surgery center. Which I found, in my research, to be far easier and less expensive (due to insurance issues from what I was told by my company's HR dept.) than operations that are done at hospitals.

The staff & the physicians were very friendly yet very professional.. The atmosphere was a warm environment, I felt very at ease. My glasses were fitted to perfection, prices were very reasonable. This was the first pair of glasses that I did not have to bring back over & over again for adjustments...I have recommended my family, friends & colleagues to get their eyes examined and purchase their glasses. I have to agree with their very low rating. A couple of years ago I went there for a consultation…read morefor blepharoplasty. They did a thorough exam, took lots of photos. It was denied by my insurance company because they didn't send in the photos. I called the office and they kept transferring me to the person that takes photos so I could schedule photos but I already had photos done because they weren't listening to what I was saying. I finally got to the right person and they said they did send the photos so I asked them to just please send them again because they don't have them. Apparently they sent everything in as a new claim and it was denied because I already had an open claim. They also only submitted the claim for only one eye!! I ended up going somewhere else and was successful. Fast-forward to now, I went there for a certain issue. When I made the appointment I explained what was going on and got the appointment within two weeks. So I went there and they started doing their usual checking my vision, dilation, and when it comes to the actual eye test I was having a lot of trouble because I was there because I was having an issue whether I was wearing glasses or not. The technician got annoyed with me and kept saying I was being inconsistent and that she couldn't finish this exam because I was just being too inconsistent and I finally said well I'm not here for this anyway. I'm here because I'm having an actual issue. Apparently nobody told them why I was there. They thought I was there for a check up and some glasses. After almost 3 hours I finally got to see the doctor who started talking about glasses. Again I told him I am not there for glasses and told him what I was there for. He got a little flustered started throwing his arms up in the air he's like I just don't know and said a few other things and just left. Huh? He did order a test for my optic nerve which looked fine. He rescheduled me for two appointments. So I went in today for the first one and you know what it was for? Glasses! I asked even before I paid the co-pay what I was there for just to be safe and that's what I was told. They said sometimes prescriptions can change. And I said well it happens when I'm not wearing my glasses too so I'm gonna bet and say it's not the glasses. They still tried to get me to get the exam for new glasses! They do not listen to their patients. At all.

I have been at this surgical center 3 times in past few years, first time was for a vitrectomy…read morewhich I did see another individual have issues in these reviews of same place. People do not understand that they will not go under general anesthesia it probably needs to be explained a little better in preop instructions. I understood perfectly well, however, I was more than a little nervous during vitrectomy as it is more involved than cataract surgery. I made surgeon and anesthesiologist very aware of why I was so nervous and literally scared beyond words. In 1987, my 18-month-old daughter when in for surgery to correct "lazy eye" that ended very tragically. Too much went wrong that day with the entire OR team and the Pediatric ophthalmologist which left my daughter with brain death, she lived for four years in a vegetative state which just killed me, my little family and tore us apart years later because of the pain of the loss and how it happened. My two young sons would never be the same, as for me, I have unresolved trauma from it. I explained this to surgeon and the DR. K anesthesiology, he was emotionless and during the procedure I was very aware and unrelaxed, I did not feel the sedation but thankfully it was not painful but still I was beyond nervous. l I got that anesthesiologist bill wow. Dr. K did see me prior to surgery in preop area, he was charming however, just kept saying you will be fine...without addressing what he would do to make sure I was not so nervous and panicking. He needs to address the fact that there was a true reason I was supremely nervous and order something per OR so I did not change my mind and run. Nope, you will be fine is all I got after I spilled my guts about my child. Most recent visit, same thing, thank god, the beautiful woman anesthesiologists which was the same two weeks prior, took good care of me to make sure I would be relaxed but still awake but relaxed. That was all I asked for. Simple right. Off putting/unconcerned is how the Dr. K made me feel. Moving on, the staff in reception are supreme and kind very informative. The RN's in preop area a fantastic thank you CiJi and Maria for all the care you gave me. The OR staff, excellent and explained what the were going to do instead of being robots and not saying anything. I surrendered myself to them as trust was there immediately. A huge thank you to Dr. Umfrey, she gave me my life and independence back with ability to see and drive again!!!!

Located in a former strip mall, it's a busy place with a large waiting room to address the dozens of procedures that are done every day. I had my second cataract surgery done here, and my wife had both of her cataracts done here. We were both very pleased with the treatment and the outcome in those instances. However, many years ago I had retinal detachment surgery here, and it was an unmitigated disaster. The anesthesiologist didn't administer enough sedative, and I woke partway through the procedure in extreme pain. Fortunately, my surgeon quickly recognized the problem and summoned the anesthesiologist to address the problem. But then a few weeks later I learned that the anesthesiologist was 'out of network' and not covered by my insurance.
