We were shopping and he came to us to advise the store closed at 3PM , my wife asked him what time it was and he stated it was 2:25! This establishment is not a store it is an outrageously over priced museum. If you ever go by this place do yourself a favor and keep on riding!!! We will never go back....... By the way he lost a possible $450 sale!

Sadly, I am writing this review (my very first Internet review of anything) because of the action, or more appropriately the inaction, of one staff member. While at Ivy Hall on a Saturday afternoon, I saw a locked glass case on the second floor that contained some antique woodworking tools (the only case with antique woodworking tools in the shop). Among them was an English/Scottish infill rabbet plane with the price tag placed under the tool and unreadable. All staff members were busy and the day was getting late. With a long drive back to Virginia ahead of us, I decided to leave - but all the rest of that weekend, that infill plane talked to me. Mid-day Tuesday I called Ivy Hall and a gentleman answered. I related the above story and asked if he could please look at the plane and give me some information about it? After a long pause he said: I don't know what information I could give you. I suggested that the price and maker's mark, if any, would be helpful. He next asked where the case was located. I described the area on the second floor and he said "that dealer is gone - He left last week." I explained that the glass case was just next to the empty booth space and he sighed and in an exasperated voice asked which side? By that time I had decided that the ordeal of dealing with this individual was too painful and not worth the pleasure of owning this beautiful little plane so I thanked him, told him he had been a great help and hung up. I was prepared to purchase the plane, which could have cost several hundred dollars depending on the maker but because of one staff member's reluctance to be helpful and make a sale. I walked.

Then you can rest between your morning and afternoon shopping. Staff is very friendly and can usually help you find that treasure you saw and can't relocate!

This store is also arranged with things of similar eras/styles/items grouped together nicely. Things also aren't so crowded that you feel like you will bump something and break it and you can also scan an area quickly to see if there is anything that piques your interest. Best of all, no smells of mold or mothballs! (Sadly, so many antique stores have these smells and they cause me, and likely other shoppers, to suddenly want to get the heck out. Not here.) I wasn't clear if this was multiple venders to the entire store or mostly just stuff that the owner is selling. Prices are great for large and small items and there were plenty of things on sale. The owner is also willing to wheel and deal. I am VERY happy my purchase. I scored two larger, ceramic, chinois elephant yard tables enameled in a Han Dynasty green that may or may not be from the 1800s. Staff was very helpful at getting my heavy objects downstairs and to the loading dock and into my car. Some other great finds I saw: -an interesting cutout of a decorated camel standing about 5 feet tall (4th or 3rd floor hidden behind a rack of paintings - that thing should be on display) - brass towel rack with two bars for wall attachment ($85? slightly bent but this could be easily fixed) - a larger Vintage Hall Pottery in China Blue Art Deco by Westinghouse -crazy cool vintage jewelry; one gorgeous piece had multiple levels of hanging blue stones/glass and bronze metal -metal and wood shop chair with a back -multiple carved, tribal heads - tons of wall art How can I forget, there is the cutest, quaintest little restaurant in the front with heavenly smells coming from it. I did not have time to get a bite and a coffee, but I will absolutely be back for this.
