That sense is not wrong: you are. The menus (one a tasting menu, the other a la carte), are very inventive and rapidly cause glands to salivate. Clever mix of ingredients & cooking forms, and plenty of delicious options to choose from. The wine menu was robust, well-balanced for palates & dishes ordered, and had a comprehensive list of reasonably priced bottles. (We had the Gigondas: absolutely lovely) The dishes were amazing! Linguine w/ black truffles (divine), seared sea bass (more divine), braised short ribs (diviner (?) ), etc.. The cheese cart was sublime, with an excellent selection. The banana souffle tasted as magnificent as it looked. The service at La Trompette is exemplary. We were waited on impeccably, and just enough. If i had to suggest any improvements, it would be 1) serve crustier bread, and more than one option ( the bread served was fine, but the center was spongy), and 2) the toasts for the cheese crumbled into small pieces instantly (fortunately, I like getting my hands dirty with cheese..) It's a bit off the beaten path, kinda like in Harlem+Brooklyn if it was in NYC. If in the states it would be highly sought after. I fell in love when i discovered their IG page. I've been following for few years now and just saw how beautiful the food was. I had to come here for my London trip. I expected it to be in some posh neighborhood and was pleasantly surprised when it wasn't and instead in a neighborhood with just a bit grit and cool vibe. It's small and quaint and the food is so delicious and service was very attentive and friendly. One must get the Comte Fried Potatoes. We didn't at first but we looked to our left, to our right, and table in front and everyone was ordering this dish so we did too and it didn't disappoint. It's served with a saffron aioli that is very savory. I loved this gem of place. I plan to come here every time I am near London.

It was certainly a treat to be able to see the dishes being prepared, and made me feel a little like I was part of the fun, buzzy team. I cannot fault them on any of those aspects. We had the queen of spades menu with the emotion pairing. So that meant we had mackerel, berlingots, white asparagus, lobster, seabass, guinea fowl, red leicester cheese and then dessert (chocolate for me). The wine pairings were not spectacular. I think they are trying to do too much and be too smart. With these dishes there are some lovely classics that will go well. I think we had one wine all night that we truly loved and the rest were either not wine (an alcoholic tea in one case) or relatively recent for what I would have expected at 280 pounds each. I get that may be the business model of 2 star restaurants but then perhaps my jam is just one star and near-starred places. I wouldn't refuse an invitation to go back but we will not seek it out again.

However, it seems consistently salty, so far the 3 main dishes are all on the salty side. The pomme souffle was delicious but the filling again was too salty. What is more fitting than having an 8+ course meal when you should be eating turkey, stuffing and cranberry sauce. Needless to say we left even more full than if we had indulged in the typical manner. The ambience at Club Gascon is elevated chic. It is very simple yet exceptionally thought out. The food is exceptionally thought out - it's creative, innovative, complex and delicious. Highlights for me from the Christmas tasting menu we're the amuse bouches, the stuffed tulip, and the compressed cheese shortbread. The wine pairings were also extremely interesting and the sommelier was knowledgeable, friendly and provided great insight. Lastly, what really makes the dining experience here are the people. It is so obvious what care goes into selecting the team and we were blown away by their investment in ensuring our meal and experience was above expectations. Whether it was chatting about the origin of olive oil at a waitresses family farm in Italy or learning more about the wine selection process from an islanders perspective. I ordered a vegan gluten-free plate which they said they would be more than accommodating to make and the waitress listed off items that sounded phenomenal but by the time I plate showed up, there was just steamed spinach, small side of beans, and nothing of which they promised because the waitress never informed me that the things she recommended are neither vegan nor gluten-free. We asked repeatedly for hot teas, orange juice and water which we never received. So I ended up getting up and going to one of the side counters where there was a jar of water and brought it back to the table and filled it myself.
