Located inside the Thon Hotel Oslo Airport, the Brasserie serves an awesome breakfast buffet for hotel guests, and turns into a fabulous restaurant at 1800hrs.
As it is configured more usually as a breakfast bar, ambience is functional but comfortable. There is also a full bar and what looks like a comprehensively stocked wine cellar.
Service was excellent from the get-go. We were warmly greeted and ushered to our seats. Menu and water provided and it was off to the races.
As a couple, we shared starters of a Carrot Ginger soup and Reindeer Tartar. The soup was more like a puree or mousse than a soup. Excellent flavor, mouth-feel and came with perfectly toasted bread to dip.
The Reindeer Tartare was not minced as expected, but a medley of little cubes of meat and beet and pickled something and it all worked! My wife called it "Christmas on a Dish". There were pieces of "bark", a light mousse, a heavier creamy sauce and it all worked so well!
The pizza was less successful, although it might have been the choice we made. Other pizzas on the tables around us looked wonderful.
So, overall one star less than perfection, but I suspect that the next time we are here, they just might get a fifth. read more
