Honestly, this place has always been hit and miss. Anytime I order anything from Uber. It's always a flop. Last time I actually went in there and had a Caesar salad. It was actually good. They put crisp bacon and it was awesome. The one I just got was floppy bacon, thick chicken slices which who wants to cut up chicken when eating a salad lol, and those crappy little croutons. calamari when I would go felt like the breading comes off when you take a bite, which is a pain. Loved this place! The vibe was super chill and welcoming, and the staff were really friendly and on top of everything without hovering. i am trying the brasserie for the very first time for sunday breakfast. Lots of people in the place but not too noisy. I ordered the skillet with 2 eggs, bacon, sausages , ham, cheese and lots of breakfast potatoes. Actually too much potatoes. The potatoes occupied 70% of the skillet. Deception. Coffee was ok. This place - Brasserie des Rapides - made for an interesting experience, largely because I had never been to this section of Montreal before. It's in the Lasalle area, way out toward the city's southwest "corner" and still displaying the city's logo on its street signs. I always assumed that this was where the historical Irish community settled, but that's further up on the same land mass, closer to the city, in Pointe St.-Charles. Brasserie des Rapides is largely a sports bar, with a really long bar counter, (bar) food that's actually good, many large TVs, and a lot of seating, some of it on different levels. The "des rapides" part had me scratching my head. I thought the rapids were inside that canal you cross to get here, but the canal looked too benign! I was told that the rapids of Lachine are beyond and several blocks down, on the St. Lawrence River. Some people go on the rapids, but, given how cold this river is, they can have at it. I had a chicken burger to which sauteed mushrooms were added at my request. The platter came with fries. I also had a soft drink. I was concerned that the chicken burger would be wimpy and would not fill me up. It did fill me up, and it was very tasty. I also liked that the fries were substantial - more like steak fries. All of the food was very good, and my friend was quietly enjoying another savory looking entree that they offer. Consistent with the atmosphere at most sports bars, the service was spirited and, despite being very busy, also prompt, responsive, and welcoming. Also, the prices were fair, which I assessed by dividing by the conversion rate on that particular day. The structure itself has a newer strip mall look, albeit on its own pad. Brasserie des Rapides is popular, somewhat crowded at peak hours, and definitely a spirited place with an elevated decibel level! You can take the Metro to its Angrignon terminus and then take a bus, or even walk if the weather is cooperating. Most people drive because the density is low this far out and parking is ample. What also struck me is that the crowd is definitely more local and suburban ... and quite different from an in-town crowd. The crowd also aligns more with West Island sensibilities and English works equally well, even though I tried to avoid using it. I can give Brasserie des Rapides 4 stars for being the 4 star neighborhood eatery and sports bar that it is. However, since I enjoy dissing on in-town types in most cities - mostly for good fun - I can also assign 4 stars for the 4 words: "THIS AIN'T THE PLATEAU!" We went to the bar to catch FIFA match of Argentina vs Netherland. Service is very amiable. The food is average as pub food. What made me upset is the owner or manager who knows some customers, came to converse with them right in front of us, blocking the game for us, and disrupting a part of the game, because he was speaking so loud, almost taking over the speakers. (9$ for a smirnoff ice, 28$ for a pitcher of sangria, didn't catch the beer prices but even their 5@7 prices were at best ok (a double cocktail for 7$ only from 5-8). Atmosphere/Ambiance: ...meh ok. It's all cute ladies serving the tables, so that's pleasant and they mostly seem to be quite nice and efficient. It's a general sports bar feel to this place, equipped with TVs and terrace and plenty of tables so pretty decent for groups especially. Age range seemed to be from 18+. Music: the satellite radio they were playing at the beginning of the night was spot on with lots of popular summer-y tunes makin us all wiggle with delight in our seats as we sang along to some songs.... And then the DJ started. Wow did that ever suck. For about an hour he played 70's music which was hit or miss (sweet home alabama = hit; 3X acdc songs practically back to back = miss!) ...and then outta nowhere it was 50 cent and other various similar songs which made everyone who was dancing sit down lol. So yah overall pricey, generic sports bar with sometimes good music and cute ladies serving u. I once came in to try one of their lunch specials, but since since lunch is no longer served after 3:00PM, I opted for one of their evening specials instead, but the waitress insisted that I needed to buy a beverage to go with the meal. Nowhere on the menu was this written that lunch or evening specials require a beverage, with two exceptions clearly stated next to those specific items. After pointing this out she actually got mad at me and took back the menu. A talk with the manager had him siding with her saying that he didn't want to get them mad at him. Excuse me? Can't believe this bad attitude and that they were willing to lose a $15.00 sale plus tax and tip because I won't buy a $2.00 that wasn't part of the meal. It's not like the place was packed and that they could afford to blow off paying customers for no reason; the place was more than half empty. I took my business elsewhere that day. On another occasion when one of their lunch specials (the Cedar Plank Salmon) didn't quite agree with me and the management refused to address the issue, I've decided I'm sticking to the burgers. As a regular, I felt very disappointed at this lack of accountability and to be fair, I added my own customized carry out option to their all-you-can-eat roast beef buffet (until I got busted), so I guess you can say we're even. Jokes aside, unless you actually throw up on the spot and not some place they can't see, don't expect the management to take responsibility and do anything about it. Also, if they try to make you order a beverage with your meal, unless the printed menu explicitly states this, you can say no and insist on being served your meal your way. One last thing, always ask for a loyalty card wherever you go and make sure to get it stamped with every visit. I'm not sure if I ever requested one before and was told that they didn't have one, but they never offered me one at first and only after seeing another customer get their card stamped did I insist on getting one, too. I would not recommend this place. The service is not good. We had to try hard to get our server to pay attention to us. She barely wanted to take our order and then after our food was dropped off, never checked in to see if everything was ok. We waited a long time for food and my fiancé didn't even get his burger until after we were done our meals. He was starving. Then a couple other friends joined us and she forgot to punch in their burger as well. When it finally came, it was really dry and not well made. He sat there with it in front of him uneaten for a long time before he was able to send it back. The salad and crab cakes I had were not bad, but I really would not go back here because of how much the server didn't seem to care if we were happy. Beer selection was unimaginative. read more

Brasserie des Rapides is better than your local sports bar, but lacks the authenticity of Irish pubs that I oh-so love. It's a French-Canadian resto-bar with big TVs, a big menu and a handful of cute "modern" features thrown in, such as free charging stations for your phone, a stage for events (they host a lot of seasonal events that usually include a special menu or nicely priced deals on their standard menu) that hold a dj booth and space for karaoke, ... It's cute, and you can tell that they invested a lot of money into it to make it a focal point of the otherwise lack-luster "strip mall" (is that what its considered to be?) on Champlain. The best part about BDR is the food. Very big selection, with original menu items that you likely won't see in other pubs of the same genre. I especially love their burgers, but I would recommend anything on the menu that showcases meat since they seem to specialize in it (I used to do my shopping in the area and I could smell meat being smoked, roasted, ... from their kitchen when passing by, the aromas were really amazing). The portions are really generous, I usually end up taking food home. It can be a bit pricey for a resto-bar, but I feel like I'm getting my money's worth. As for the drinks, the prices really aren't anything special, but I would recommend getting a pint or a pitcher of their home-brew, it's quite nice and a cheaper option. I haven't enjoyed any of their cocktails though, I'll stick to speciality bars for those lol Overall, its a really nice resto-bar! We waited one hour, while the bar tender kept bringing our drinks while we waited and waited and finally decided not to order food at all. We have been going for the early bird breakfast every Friday for years now! Breakfasts are delicious, unlimited coffee, excellent service. The waitress Carmen is a marvel, after just a couple of visits she had our preferences memorized and she treats us like family. This restaurant is one of my favourite restaurants in Montreal. The supper menu is excellent, so much so that I can't pick one single meal that I like the most. For starters they have amazing hamburgers, my personal favourite however is the Southern Comfort burger-it's so delicious. I really wanted to like this place and tried hard, but.... it was awful. I went with my girlfriend looking for a quick Brasserie style meal and a beer. They do have a great choice of beers but it ends there. My girlfriend ordered a vegetarian burger - not a good choice - we weren't sure what it was but it really wasn't edible. I went with what should be standard fare for Brasserie in Montreal - the classic Hamburger steak and onions - not sure how but they managed to mess this up also. The meat was way over cooked and dry as cardboard, the few onions that came with it were barely cooked, but the worst part was the gravy. The gravy was basically (or at least tasted like it) BBQ chicken gravy - awful!! Maybe we got a bad night ( Thursday at 7:00) but don't think we will be going back. read more

I've been for brunch and supper and enjoyed them both. I've been more at supper so that's what I'll write about. I ordered a sub and expected a regular sub but it was served on flatbread instead. Not a fan. On a separate occasion, I had a burger with 3 different cheeses and mushrooms and it wasn't for me. The appetizers though! We ordered the fish platter and the meat platter and they were awesome! The staff was courteous and surprised us with dessert after overhearing there was a birthday among us. Located in the renovated Place LaSalle mall we decided to try out this brasserie for a quick lunch. Place was pretty quiet for lunch say for the few usual suspects. Was greeted right away and told to sit anywhere we wanted. Our friendly waitress gave us our menus to look over. Waitress comes back and takes our order. It took about 20 minutes or so to get our order. My wife ordered the club salad which is basically a salad with the club sandwich ingredients minus the bread and fries. She truly enjoyed it. Well presented, fresh spinach, bacon done right, and a great little sauce on the side. I had the regular club sandwich which was ok, nothing earth shattering. Service was very friendly, but we suspect that maybe it was our waitress first day. She was super friendly, but almost poured water into our drinks (lol) and seemed to forgot to ask us if we wanted anything else. She also was slightly overwhelmed at the few tables she was waiting on. She apologized for the delay in getting our check and thanked us for our patience.
