UDPATE to My previous 5 Star Review. I am suspecting some "SHADY" behaviour. I originally purchased a 2011 Nissan Juke from Imad @ Bravo Auto Sales. I had previously done research on the vehicle, and was rated by 4 stars in the reliability department by various car review sites.
Imad presented the "Carfax Report" which showed a regular service history of the vehicle. While I waited for the vehicle to be ready for pick up. Imad quietly said "Have the timing chain checked out..." at which point I asked him point blank. "Is there a concern that I should be aware of?" he replied "No, no just you know things happen with cars", to which I replied "You've provided the car history in the "Carfax Report", it shows regular servicing, is there something more"...Imad answer "No no". The vehicle was ready and left the dealership. I found it out specifically he would mention a timing chain, but he indicated there was no concerns when asked.
Two (2) weeks later, the vehicle would not start. I called Imad and asked what the challenge was? Imad said via phone "Oh its probably just a no code, it doesn't mean anything, just reset the computer by disconnecting the battery". Well in this day of computers, sometimes the programming does go a little awry and rebooting the computer resolves it. So I did. It got the car started.
Twelve month (12) and 6,000 kms later. The car DIED while DRIVING, on Dixie Rd South (Mississuaga). No limp mode, no nothing, it was dead in the water. I had just come from the dealership who had put air in the tires for me, as the dash indicator light had come on. At the time the car died, no dash indicator lights were present. The vehicle failed to restart, even attempting to jump start it (its a manual transmission) did not yield any results. Towed back to dealer. Jamal simply opened the oil cap, and said "The timing chain is blown". When the timing chain blew, it took out the engine (timing chains synchronise the top and bottom of engines). The engine was done.
I had towed to Mechanic #2, who confirmed this. Then I had it towed to Alta Nissan (Woodbridge), as the vehicle has various open Technical Service Bulletins. Alta Nissan was unable to find the cause of the issue, even though they had all the diagnostic tools and was a fully fledged dealership. They could only say it was timing chain (which never breaks) or the crank sensor. I then had it towed to Mechanic #3, who also confirmed the engine was blown.
So in my mind, looking back. Imad was fully aware, of a timing chain issue, and elected to say "No" when asked if there was a concern I should be aware of, given the vehicle history.
Shady, Shady, Shady. The vehicle is now a write off, and I'm biting a bullet of $11,000, because Imad could not be fully and completely honest. Although, if you ask him he'll say, "well its a used car, we get from the auction, we can't be responsible for everything". The problem is ...he quietly said "have the timing chain looked at". Why? Unless he knew there was a problem, and when asked further, say NO. Why did he not disclose this BEFORE the deal had be written. Shady Shady Shady.
