I was headed north from Boca Raton so I stopped by based on Yelp reviews. Bread is decent, but is expensive, loaves are small and the "base" sourdough is too heavy and not airy enough, especially if you freeze the bread and microwave it ... it must then be toasted to be eaten or it could give you a stomach ache. Gran Forno Bakery on Las Olas Blvd in Ft Lauderdale has the best breads in South Florida. Huge loaves, inexpensive ($5.50-$6.50 per loaf), variety of flavors and perfect dough balance. read more

I love their bread . I discovered it at the green Market in Downtown West Palm Beach . Their olive bread is the best I've ever had. I don't mind having to drive 20 minutes once in a while to Jupiter until the Green Market opens up again in October. read more

I ordered the cheesy pretzel bread. It did not taste very cheesy and had no pretzel flavor at all. I gave a couple of slices to friends to try and they all said it tasted like sourdough. I was expecting the bread to taste like a pretzel. I was very very disappointed. If I wanted sourdough bread it would have been very good. Just came from Johnny's. We walked in after our kids haircut. My son thought it looked so yummy. I don't like sourdough and I expressed that A d that I don't think my son would like it either. The owner told me it doesn't at all taste like sourdough it's just started with a sourdough starter. We bought brioche buns, baguette, and sesame seed loaf. The kids tasted the chocolate brioche and took one bite and did not want more(this being at lunch time). I wished the owner instead would have said actually it might taste a little bit light sourdough how about you try a piece of this one instead of convincing me that it doesn't at all taste like sourdough. I hate feeling like I was tricked into buying something. If I bought it by myself I would have said shame on me for I won't go back but because he convinced us I wanted to go in and leave a bad review. I would like my 22 dollars back! read more

This is maybe the best bread I've had in this country. Johnny is a serious artisan. His talent is obvious at first bite. His focaccia makes all other focaccia pale by comparison. It is neither oily nor dry, and I am ruined as far as ever enjoying other focaccia again. His olive bread has a clean and pure olive taste without any oiliness or overwhelming you with olive. It's perfect. The crust is amazing. The best bread I've had there is the cheese-Calabrian chili sourdough. It may be the best bread I've eaten anywhere. Rushed it to my friends' place while still warm from the oven, we sliced into the crackling crust and slathered our slices greedily with good Irish butter. Amazing. The flavors of the cheese and chilis were so clear and present, but didn't overwhelm the stellar crust and crumb. We were enraptured. I am flying home to NJ with a loaf of the regular sourdough and next time my friends told me I have to try the fig-walnut sourdough. Johnny was working the day I was there and his Dad took my order. They are great people who care about their customers as much as they do their product. That is saying a lot these days. I am seriously in love with this bakery. Hands down the best bakery I have ever walked into. And I've lived coast to coast and in NY. Plus I only live a few miles from the bakery. For Easter Sunday I purchased a large focaccia, baguette, and a few massive bagels. My wife adds peppers onion, some herbs, eggplant, and olive oil to the focaccia and bakes it for todays party. I broke off a small piece in the car just to try it and literally ate like a quarter of the loaf on the way home like an an animal. Perfect crust, super soft and herby inside. I bought the raisin walnut and the country. Both are sourdough. I was excited to try this place as it was in our local paper. I tasted the Raisin so far and it's delicious! Crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. The price is a bit steep for 9$ a loaf however it is home made and fresh. Worth a try for sure! read more
