I tried Bread Meats Bread as an American living in Glasgow on July 4th weekend, so it was the ultimate burger test! The inside of the restaurant is light and airy, and the staff was very friendly. I had the lunch special which is really reasonably priced: £11.95 for a burger, drink, and fries. I chose the black and blue burger (mushrooms, bacon, American cheese, and blue cheese) and sweet potato fries. For dessert, I had a slice of caramel apple pie. Both my burger and pie were great, but the saltiness of the burger and the sweetness of the pie overpowered the other flavors more than would be ideal. All in all, a lovey experience! read more

A quick downhill walk from the university, this place was a perfect stop for lunch. Good atmosphere and great food. Later in our trip we discovered there are multiple locations, this one was top shelf! The group ordered a whole mess of delicious plates: Angry bird (spicy chicken and cheese) Chicken and cheese Falafel Royale with cheese Chips Sweet potato fries Poutine Drunken oreo shake - wowza! This was one of my favorite casual meals during our trip. The service was fantastic and the food was even better. My chicken and cheese sandwich was absolutely delicious and not a crumb was left. I picked off my neighbor's poutine and it was soooo good. The burgers looked incredible. The hubs had a ridiculous drunken oreo shake and it was exactly as it should be - rich and boozy. read more

How have I not written a review of BMB West End? I've been several times. In my defence, I pass it EVERY DAY on the bus and the bus stop is right outside so, sometimes, it's rude not to!! Anyway, if you enjoy the food in the city centre branch, but think it's a bit loud, noisy and cramped then it's well worth hopping on the Subway (or get the Number 6 or 6A bus from the south side of George Square) to visit their new branch. It's a very different feel inside, a lot more mature and sophisticated I think, and a lot bigger so you can actually get a table to yourself rather than cramming onto a big bench! The menu is a little different too but based on the same principles of good local food, well cooked meats and 'if in doubt add bacon' (which, let's be honest, is never a bad thing). I'm not going to pick out a favourite item from the West End menu, suffice to say I'm still working my way through them, but I've yet to have a bad experience. And by that I mean from the minute you walk in the door to the minute you leave. The staff are good, they have their alcohol licence sorted now, the food is as tasty as ever (and if I'm being honest, I think it's better in this one than the city centre!), and the prices are bang on. Ohhh the only downside... I can't help but order too much food, every damn time! BUT IT'S SO TASTY!!!!! In short, this is one of the most reliably good places I know. Whenever I feel like eating a burger, for me there is only one place to go: Bread Meats Bread! So you guys can only imagine how happy I was when i found out that they were opening in the West End! I went with a couple of friend on the first day the opened to the public, Friday night. I was impressed by the interior, i really like how they decored the place, it is modern and welcoming and it is bigger than the branch in town - big thumbs up, as that hopefully means less queue lol. It was a busy night but we only waited ten minutes and then they showed our table. They still don't have the licence to sell alcohol, so only soft drinks and milkshakes were available. Also they didn't have a couple of sides (we wanted the mozzarella sticks) so we opted for sweet potato fries and crispy bacon chips - OMG so delicious. I then had the Great Western Wolf (cheese, bacon, spicy nduja and pulled pork) which was absolutely amazing! Overall, not disappointed at all, we waited a good half an hour but as i said, that was their first night so it is excusable, and the staff were all very nice and attentive. There's a couple of different, completely amazing things going on at Bread Meats Bread and wrapped all together I think it probably makes BMB the West End's premier burger place NM Let's talk sides, no longer relegated to afterthought, if you go multiple times to BMB you may find yourself picking your main to fit your side. Let's get this straight right now, Poutine. It's huge, it's amazing, it's a main event. Get a smaller burger and a Poutine if you need to, but get the Poutine. Next, burgers, because that's what you're here for right (wrong, you're here for the Poutine, we've been over this!) There's some really amazing stuff on this menu; but my very favourites are the California, the classic cheeseburger and the immense pastrami burger. The latter comes with a mountain of beef which can be siphoned off to lace your Poutine with. You may have noticed I'm only capitalising Poutine, not the other food. Finally, after several visits, I learned. Burger each, one side between two. No wasting food. Adulting, people. This is it at it's highest level. In any case, if you've frequented BMB in the City Centre, you know the drill. Snappy service, funky surroundings, cracking food. There was no alcohol licence in place yet, which is fine as they had only just opened this week, so we can let that slide. The ever helpful staff did say we could have popped out, got a couple of beers and had them opened on site, so keep that in mind if you're going this weekend! As for the food, what's left to say? Did notice a couple of new offerings on the menu which will have to be explored in future visits - like mozzarella sticks. Oh yes. As it was, I had my usual choice of The Wolf. Not of St Vincent Street, but a Great Western Wolf. The names are altered to show a change in surroundings, which is a nice touch. I also noticed a Kelvinator on the list, which again, I will return to check out. For Science! The food was quick to arrive and cooked to perfection, as you'd expect. While waiting, we took in the surroundings, which are very warm and welcoming. I especially like the upside down trays on the ceiling, but as has been pointed out, I am weird. We were in about 8.30 and it was pretty busy, but not overly so. My friend said the lights were a bit bright for this time of night, but like magic, within minutes they'd been dimmed - not because of anything we said, but just because. Again, a nice touch! Remember and get your Subway Smartcard and join the Upper Circle for 20% off (total bill until December, then just food after that) and make a reasonable price even better. Cannot fault it. Up there with Glasgow's finest, as you'd expect. read more

As big Bread Meats Bread fan I was very happy to be joining them on their opening night. I was even happier to see that, no surprise to anyone, the place was buzzing and as popular as their city centre restaurant. First things first, this branch is about three times bigger than their St Vincent Street one and it had a bigger menu which had most of the same options but with different names - so have a good look at the menu. Drinks options were also bigger and it now has a great choice of beers and wines. The food is still excellent and the service phenomenal. I was really impressed with how well the staff were handling the extremely busy opening night. So far so good! I'm sure it won't be long till the next time I visit and I look forward to it! read more

Being a huge fan of BMB, there was only one place I was heading Friday night! Great to see them finally open a West End branch. Even better I managed to get a seat before the crowds started appearing! Inside is lovely, almost a total contrast to their city centre branch, and probably around 3 times the capacity. There's a nice bar area in the middle too which makes waiting a bit less invasive compared to the city centre branch. On the night, the place was absolutely packed (as expected) and the queue for tables kept getting bigger. I was really impressed how quick they managed to turn around tables considering it was an opening night and with some new staff, massive thumbs up. Currently, they don't have the licence to trade alcohol (I'm guessing this will be fixed quickly though) so only soft drinks on offer the now. Drinks selection did look good, and the hard shakes looked quite nice, will try at a later date. Food wise it was classic BMB. Again, because it was an opening night I was a bit worried how the quality would be, but it was spot on. The new sweet potato fries with maple syrup and candied bacon, and the chicken nuggets are a fantastic addition to the menu, so tasty. I had the royale with cheese which was superb. My friend had the luther burger, bacon and cheese with a donut bun, what a find this was, honestly it was amazing! Very impressed with the new addition to the West End, and bonus stars for everything being so great on opening night, not an easy task! Can't wait for the next visit (in a week!) read more

Similarly to others we weren't informed that they were unable to serve alcohol until the point of ordering. Clearly they don't appreciate the relationship between burgers and beer. Ideally you want a huge neon sign outside stating 'BRING YER OWN BEVVY' to ensure everybody comes well stocked. Anyways the alcohol situation wasn't the issue, my beef was with the burger itself. The patty was poor, like McDonalds level poor, cooked till it was dry, grey and robbed of all flavour. It was easily the most disappointing burger I've ever had and it sure wasn't cheap. To add insult our waiter let one go as he brought out bill. This type of chemical warfare coupled with the rubbish burger left us feeling a little bewildered. I won't be going back, I recommend you don't bother going either, you would be better hitting the burger van by the botanics. They don't serve alcohol either but their burgers are most certainly better than these cowboys. read more

Having read the rave reviews I was expecting better . The girl serving us was nothing short of rude ,rolling her eyes when we asked a simple question .We all noticed indepently that she became a bit more chatty when the bill was being paid! Rarely have I never left a tip but I did not on his occaision . The food was "adequate " to say the least. Nothing special and I have certainly tasted more authentic burgers in my time.All in all a disappointing visit and it can be taken as read that we won't be back. read more

Absolutely fantastic sandwich and burger joint in Glasgow. We were initially disappointed that it would be just an American burger spot but all of there burgers have a genuine Scottish twist and flare. Some of the best burgers I've ever had (and that's saying something coming from an American the land of nothing but burgers!) and the fries were FANTASTIC and unique. Also the staff were very friendly, accommodating and on top of their game. Which is very unusual for European restaurant service. Would definitely recommend and we might even come back during this same trip. read more
