I was born and raised nearby and hadn't been to the Bread of Life since before moving several years ago. My husband isn't from the area and had never been, so we decided to give it a try. We dined on a Friday evening for the seafood buffet. The offerings were more than enough, but the food was very bland and nothing special. We are local to Florida and will stick to eating real and fresh seafood. The salad bar was just ok and the desserts were dry and flavorless. The buffet also offered a few normal items such as pork and catfish, which were good but nothing to write home about. The service is fine and we enjoyed looking in the gift shop afterwords. I would never go out of my way to dine here and likely won't be back. Save your money and time and go eat in a nearby town. read more

Food average at best, buffet with NO fried chicken. Don't believe the pictures! Chicken and dumpling 5" deep in whitened water, no chicken, very few dumplings! They were not very good. Fried fish was marked fried chicken, grandson allergic to fish, thought it was chicken! Made him order from the menu, chicken fingers and fries, came with no fries or any kind of sauce. Let's start with the good stuff. That's the food and the ambience. My wife and I ate there on a busy Friday evening. The wait was about fifteen minutes, which only indicated to me that it had a solid customer base and brand loyalty. Once we were seated we chose the buffet. Menu based entrees are available. The buffet was nicely stocked. It was evidently seafood night and was definitely no disappointment to us. Breaded shrimp, cocktail shrimp, imitation crab, and barbecue chicken wings were my choice of menu items. My wife chose the roast beef and the chicken wings. I also enjoyed some chicken strips. Plenty of vegetables and cheesy potatoes rounded out the ensemble. The salad bar was small, but solid. The food was good. It was hot, tasty and well presented. The atmosphere was nice. Fairly quiet for as busy as it was. A lady was providing some live singing which was done modestly and quietly in the backdrop. We genuinely enjoyed our dining experience. It appears that many locals enjoy this place. Parking was ample. The parking lot is well paved and lit. Included next to the restaurant is ample parking for tractor trailers! The establishment is right along Highway 127 just a few miles south of Liberty. Route 127 is the site of America's longest yard sale held every August! It is easy to find and access. There is a small, but nice gift shop located in the entrance. All was going well til I decided to use the restroom before leaving. I'll spare you the details, but a picture is worth a thousand words. I have included it in my review. Bathroom needed attention. Upon speaking with staff about the urgent issue unfolding in the restroom, they sent someone there immediately to clean the facility and well...stock the missing item. The restaurant is handicap accessible. This business supports a local orphanage run by its owners, so eating there supports a good cause as well. The only reason for a four star review was the restroom situation. I'm sure that given how busy it was, things got overlooked, and it shouldn't prejudice anyone from visiting this establishment for a pleasant dining experience. It isn't lavish or fancy. It is affordable, practical and worth a trip. Good food. Nice people. Friendly atmosphere in a very pretty part of Kentucky. read more

The food is phenomenal. On Friday they have Seafood night after 4 pm. They have Fish, Frog Legs, claims, Crabs etc. They have excellent desert and Ice Cream and it's delicious. I drive almost 50 miles to it. read more

Highly suggested by a friend, we headed out to try the restaurant. They have a menu that you can order from or you can go thru their buffet. The food has consistently been very good! (We've been several times now.) The waiters/waitresses, hostess, busboys are super friendly & helpful! They have several tables in the main area, along with a beautiful fireplace that is in use in the colder months! We have been several times, but next time I will snap some photos & post them. Stopped in a couple weeks ago, first time there. The Buffet had a wide selection of meats, sides, and breads. As well as, a large salad bar & dessert. The drive was well worth it. We live about an hour away. The restaurant was very clean and decorated nice. Friendly staff.We had the buffet and it was delicious. The pies was wonderful. After eating we enjoyed shopping in there gift shop and fudge shop. Buffet runs a bit higher but it's worth it to go and fill up! Also loved the overall atmosphere & gift shop. read more

There are many reasons I gave the Bread of Life only one star. My wife and I had eaten there a couple years back and really enjoys the meal. This past weekend was my birthday and we had tickets to a show in Lancaster, so rented a hotel in Danville and thought what an opportunity to drive down and eat at Bread of Life. What a disappointment this time. The website says $12.99 after 4:00 on Saturday, but found out there was a piece of notebook paper taped over that price saying $15.99. The buffet was the most pitiful looking thing I have seen in awhile. Catfish which I love, but no fries or hush puppies, dried up looking chicken and wings which I didn't even try to stick a fork in. The mashed potatoes tray was empty and wasn't refilled as long as I checked. I ate a few bites and then decided we would just leave without complaining. I did try some ice cream, but of course the chocolate was out and no spoons for the vanilla, so I had to eat my ice cream with my fork. I do believe they have been in business long enough they are taking their customers for granted. I would suggest anyone who wants a good buffet meal drive on down to David's Steakhouse in Corbin, where you can get a huge variety of fresh meats, including steak on the buffet, along with huge supple of fresh veggies, all kinds of fresh salads, and an unbelievable variety of desserts all for about the same price we paid at Break of Life. This was not the first time eating at this buffet and if was a little closer to home I am sure that we would eat there more often. The place is like any other country buffet that I have ever eaten at. A "gift" shop in the front and a bunch of tables spread around. The food is served on a hot table accessible from both sides and a cold desert table against the back wall. I could make a career of eating the ham swimming in a brown sugar bath. The rest of the food is all well prepared and tasty. The place is clean but quite dated. It could use a bit of an update. This is a Casey County staple and a place everyone should try. Their lunch and dinner menus are hearty, filling and delicious. Service is always very prompt and while not always the friendliest, the food makes up for it. The deduction of a star is based off their breakfast buffet. I was excited to try it on my trip home because I had always heard good things. I was disappointed. The gravy was not homemade, the eggs, unsalted and dry and the biscuits were definitely baked from frozen and not great quality frozen biscuits. Was it edible? Absolutely. The sausage and bacon were good as was the coffee but nothing to write home about. Would I come back for breakfast specifically? No. Will I come back for lunch and dinner? Absolutely! Almost every small Kentucky town has a go to restaurant. In Liberty, that restaurant seems to be Bread of Life. Many people would say the restaurant serves "down home" cooking. Personally, I've never quite understood the appeal...if I can make it at home, why pay to eat it at a restaurant? I want something I can't get at home. Well, it's true you won't get anything exotic at BOL, but they do have traditional meals that might turn it up a notch. I went with the fried chicken. Now, in Kentucky, you can find good fried chicken. A lot of places. What I liked about this fried chicken was the spice in the breading. It was unique and tasty. What I didn't like is that they fried it a little too long. The dark meat was fine, but the breast was dry. If they'd have removed that bird a tad earlier, they'd have hit a home run. I went with mashed potatoes and green beans as the sides. The mashed potatoes are arguably the best you'll find anywhere. The green beans are unseasoned. Uninspiring. I jazzed them up a little with salt and pepper, but I'd go with a different option next time. The service is top rate, and the prices are reasonable. I will say that the restrooms were marginal. They can and should do better with that. A five star? No. Too many misses for that. But I'd definitely give them four. I'd certainly go back again. There aren't a ton of choices on 127 in this area of Kentucky, so this is an oasis of sorts. read more

During my visit, there was Smoked Brisket, pulled pork, Barbecue chicken and fried chicken for the meat selection. Typical sides of Green Beans, Mashed Potatoes, Mac & Cheese, etc, with 3 to 4 breads to choose from as well. The Salad Bar was stocked full of various greens, plentiful toppings and veggies along with several dressing choices, prepared pasta salad, broccoli salad, potato salad and slaws. Overall, the food (for a buffet) was good, kept freshly stocked and the serving area kept very clean! It's a little bit of a drive but worth it. Very friendly service with some decent food. They do have a buffet that has different items on it each day. They normally post on Facebook what the buffet items are. There is a regular menu to orde from also for those who don't want the buffet. A gift shop is in the front of the building with some really nice things to purchase. They do not provide a military discount. read more

Finally visited the Bread of Life Cafe. My husband and I had heard good things about the buffet. I wish I had looked at it before ordering. The good: great fresh salad bar, yummy taco soup, giant dinner rolls, ice cream. The hot bar, however, did not have the fried chicken everyone raves about, but there were chicken fingers, catfish (my husband loved this), and taco fixings. Green beans, potatoes, and corn for veggie offerings. Just not things I especially enjoy. They were quite busy, and the buffet changes every day. While road tripping to Kentucky we came across this gem, the Bread of Life Cafe. My girlfriend and I had never been to an Amish buffet. We are both generally not into buffet style eating, but this place changed both of our minds! The food, service, atmosphere, and company far exceeded our expectations. Type can choose ordering from the menu, or choose to do the buffet here. We chose the buffet, because we wanted to experience what an Amish buffet had to offer. We were not disappointed, in fact, we were BLOWN AWAY!!! The catfish, fried chicken, Kentucky butter cake, salad bar, and soft serve ice cream were incredible. The catfish was the most tender and juicy version I have ever had. The fried chicken was amazing as well. The salad bar was incredible, including fresh bacon, not bacon bits, and probably 12 different home made dressings to choose from. If you haven't tried Kentucky butter cake, you need to try it here. We were both sent right to Heaven on our first bite. I now have a new favorite sweet treat I dream about! As for the soft serve, I have NEVER had such creamy, smooth, rich soft serve ice cream in my life! The service is friendly and helpful. Bathrooms were clean. Price was also unbelievable, and amazing value. The gift shop was the only thing we both felt could have been better. Both of us wanted to see more local Amish creations to bring back as gifts. A beautiful store, with lots of choices, just lacking that home made offering, like quilts, hats etc.... I have been home for over a month now, and still dream of eating there. We will definitely make this a favorite place to eat when we go back to Kentucky... In fact, we are looking to move to that part of the state, the surrounding area is so beautiful! We made the drive from Nicholasville to check this place out. The food off the buffet was good but not mind blowing like I expected but I will give the rolls and pulled pork a solid 10/10. The peach cobbler didn't look good at all. The servers/staff were rather unfriendly. We had to ask several times for refills and napkins.
